I am rather new and so I need to ask this question. Yesterday (April fool's day) I was scammed. SHe lied about what she was selling. I guess if it seems too good to be true, it is. Anyway, as I understand it, there is no formal recourse of action. I e-mailed her and asked her to refund the difference of what the item would really cost. I have not heard back and probably won't. So now this is how I see my options:
1. Perhaps she writes back and does the right thing and refund that difference (195 mil ISK). 2. E-mail the CEO of her corp, explain what she did and see if he/she will force the hand to pay the difference. 3. Declare War on them and kill the entire corporation.
I have already informed my corp and Alliances and they (the other corp) have been marked red.
Am I missing anything? |

scamming is part of EVE. It doesnt just happen on April Fools day - it happens every minute in Jita of every day of every hour that the server is up.
You could email the CEO, but I cant see the CEO will doing anything. Yes it gives the CORP a bad name, but only a bad name to you - anyone else in EVE wont be the wiser.
You could declare war on them, but how big is your CORP and how big is theirs?
CCP even say that scamming is just part of the EVE-sandbox. Be seeing you.... |

My take is that you are extremely unlikely to get anything back. Scammers don't offer returns. And it's almost as unlikely that a scammer will be a member of a corp that prohibits scamming. I think declaring war would be unproductive or worse. It's possible that this corp deliberately scams (and perhaps other anti-social behavior like can flipping or loot stealing) in order to obtain free war decs, in which case, your alliance could be entering the lion's den, if it is weak on the pvp-side. Another possibility is that the corp consists solely of trade alts in which case there would be few, if any war targets to attack.
Frankly, I think your only real option is 5. Ignore it and move on.

Edited by: Ms Delerium on 02/04/2009 12:33:35 I think I have never accepted a contract from an unknown dude. But I like to do contracts with EVE-friends.
Sometimes its profitable for both parts, for example if you often sell minerals to the same industrialist that operates in your habitual station, it will be profitable for both you to set a contract and you get rid of sale taxes and broker fees. OK you gonna pay 10k for contract fee but this is smaller than a big buy/sell market taxes.
There is an easy way to ensure you are not gonna be scammed. Talk to the contractor, and offer him the exact same contract made by yourself this way he will save the 10k isk fee so he must be happy isnt it if he still rejects, tell him "gf" and laugh on his face.

Easy way to ensure you don't get scammed: read the contract, carefully. Double check the items involved, the quantities, the price and who's actually paying and you won't get scammed. Contracts are a secure way to buy and sell items as long as you pay attention. |

Definitely 3. You can do it, and make them pay at the same time.

The scammer will not give your money back.
So I suggest that first, you do #2, so the CEO of the corp can laugh at you. Then move on to #3 so you can lose even more isk to these guys.

OP please contact me in game. I am specialised in the utter destruction of these damned scammers. I'm so sick of their constant spam in local window that I do it practically free. Contract cost is the cost of any war decs, locator fees and the cost of the ship I use to grief them, until it explodes.
We can start with noob ships or bigger depending on how effective you want this payback to be.
There are also subtler ways of payback without the pew but those are my secret weapons.

If I were you, I would simply accept what happened as an expensive lesson in the value of carefully reading a contract before you accept it. The issuer can describe the contract however he/she wants. However, if you take the time to read it, you can see what you're actually buying (and how much you're actually paying) before you accept the contract.
If anything you victimized yourself by not paying close attention to what you were agreeing to.
Sorry to seem heartless, but it's the truth. |

Where are the GNARKILL twins (triplets? octuplets? veritable clone army?) anyway?
Why havent they posted in this thread yet? ---- Black Beard didn't do it for the money, he did it for the lulz and to ensure his K/D Parchment made impressive reading to the common man.
