1. What kind of additions?
2. Why? What purpose are they for? What (empty) role are you trying fill? (this is the hard part — without it, anything you say in answer to #1 is just spam)
…and most importantly:
3. Define "popular" — if you simply want popular changes, you're not going to see the slightest bit of content but rather things such as a complete revamp of Sov; a complete revamp of POS warfare; a near-complete revamp of the UI (especially the corp part); bug fixes; bug fixes; bug fixes; rebalancing of existing ships to give them a role they currently lack… etc etc etc.
I see very little "popular demand" for new stuff, but rather for giving the old stuff a once-over to make it worth-while.

It's human nature. Anything new will become old news once we're used to it. That said, I think the OP is on the right track to a good suggestion. While I believe Apocrypha really did a lot to fix the game from the inside, I'd love to see an expansion that doesn't tack on content to the end-game directly next time. If another race was introduced, it leaves an open spot for a LOT of content without adding to the end of the game.
Maybe there's another race of peoples out there somewhere?

1. could use a new BC and a new T1 destroyer for every race
2. why not a tier-4 BS with 4 rig slots or so ...
3. new factions+agents+ships would also be nice, it would make the EVE world a bit more lively (with a backstory). New faction items: mobile warp disruptors, salvagers, tractor beams, cyno gens? ;-)

5. can't ask often enough: a few 1000 more systems pls, kthxbye
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming
