I have a question, is there a way to insure stuff like a cloaking device on a frigate, because if it gets blown up, i really wouldn't care too much about the 15 million isk ship, its the 120 million isk cloaking device that i'm worried about. Is there a way to insure the cloaking device because that would make me feal a lot safer when i get my covert ops frig.

Nope, just the ship....T2 items are all player driven items...if you loose them in combat...you are out...

Ummm, no. It would be too easy to commit fraud.

umm no you could probably find a way to do it, its no different than some of those corporations you see giving out lones, admittedly there aren't many, but if a corpation became trusted i dont see why it couldnt work

Well... maybe you should give it a try then and get into the insurance business
I personally don't think it would work for the reasons Alowishus stated (too easy to abuse).
Furthermore, just like insurance companies in RL I would bet they could only consider insuring items as long as you remain in empire space. After all, the #1 exclusion in all insurance policies I have ever seen in my life is "acts of war"... and there is plenty of that going on in EVE :)

so heres how it will go... "sure, i'll insure your items. however, since youll almost certainly be using them in combat zones, i'll need a 90% premium. oh, and you need to *prove* you lost it. how does one prove they lost an item? well thats up to you. tell you what, give me your password, so i can log into you account and check the killmail..." See, its just not going to work is it?
the most you could hope for i think, is to get the person you bought it off (who can presumably build them) to agree to sell you a new one at 60mill, if you pay 150mill instead of 120mill for this one. (so for paying 30mil up front, you save 30mill overall)

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I could insure my ship and then say I lost it hunting rats. Now I have an insurance payout and a ship. Of course I'm probably a bit too honest to try it out but you catch my drift. Now I'm sure it would work a little better if individual corps did it for their members, most people are less likely to screw their own corp (though some still probably would). Also I know there are some members in my corp that should be paying higher premiums than others. How would a CEO put that gently? "We're charging you more because you suck ass." Plus our corp already helps us pretty heavily when replacing our ships as it is.
