Happens a lot when I open the map and a lot of the time weapon sounds are missing.
I found turning off the ingame speech option helped.

Often while in the map one of my channels will go mute with a pop.
Probably wouldn't bother most people too much, but for someone who was deaf in one ear most of their life, it's quite jarring to hear that ear go mute like that (I use headphones). It actually gives me vertigo, I've nearly fallen out of my chair twice.
Please fix! I'm not sure why stereo is so hard to get right...
Besides, my sound card is supposed to be doing crossover (audigy 2 in 'headphones' mode), which it isn't when I play EVE. Odd, this means that EVE is overriding a driver setting...
BAD! You NEED low frequency mixing between channels, it sounds horridly artificial without that.
Besides - keep your fingers out of the drivers! If you need to touch that, you're doing it wrong! The only thing EVE should need to alter is mixer levels, if that. Why is it touching anything else?
You right I just checked my driver settings, EVE is the only game that has decided my earphones are not plugged in and defaulted to 2.1 (I'm 5.1 anyway)

Wwise uses the word 'solution' twice in the first section of its front page and of course what they say actually says nothing at all, just terms out of the marketing department textbooks.
I have all the problems listed here regularly.
Still it may not be them but the way the sound engine has been implemented, its just very strange it can't be fixed. The popping was around when I played a few years back, maybe they have brought back old broken code. |

'...new sound programmer...' does not need to worry about a blog, just a fix to the terrible coding the previous one couldn't deal with. The problems are very well documented and very easy to repeat, these are not rare or obscure bugs.
Oh and please add a 'sound at camera/ship' option, this is standard in other games as you need one or the other according to preference and circumstances. I want to hear what's going on with my ship if I zoom out on the Tactical Display for instance.

Originally by: fathead mcgee no sound problems here, but then im using a x-fi titanium fatality, not some POS onboard crap
So am I, still have the problems though. Sometimes I just stop scanning and log off it gets so annoying. The background pops can even stay on when I come out of Eve which means a reboot. The sound is seriously borked.

/agree with the sound issues needing to be fixed though, I notices the pop's and sound cutting out most often when I pull up the map.
Think of it like your pod giving you feedback on what is happening, the same as modern airplanes give forced resistance/feedback to a pilot when its all done by servos.
Its also how I explain the fly through moons and planets when warping, the warp is in an alternate dimension but you still see the spatial dimensions.
The sound issues are clearly there to prove Eve is not actually real life, as some do get confused, and stupid bugs exist no matter how long they have been around.

Well the scanning sound has been fixed which was my main issue. But:
1. Still get stuck gate sounds sometimes
2 Occasional crackles and pops, only a reboot fixes (someone's not following official code I bet for the hardware to go bad like that)
3. Sound disproportionate to distance or expected effect...like shield hardners.
4. One sound totally cutting out others, seemingly randomly. Sound effects suddenly jumping in volume for no apparent reason.
5. No sound at ship option (Why? All games have this)
6. Irritating station sounds, we need an option to turn them off.
The effects themselves are fine but the way some are utilised is the work of an amateur.
Really I've not heard sound implemented this badly even in home made games and its a very bad advertisement for this game.

I may be wrong but I think they used a third party sound engine for the March expansion which messed it all up. I hope they are suing that company if that's the case. It also means CCP may not be able to easily fix the code as its not theirs to fix.
