Well, we tried in Darkfall but unfortunately Aventurine made Funcom's Anarchy Online release look relatively problem free. You know there is a problem when people cant even buy the product. Although there is still some Agony presence in darkfall, there are only a small number of members that were able to even buy the game and the majority lost interest.
However, this summer Mortal Online will be comming out and it promises to be a properly built version of this kind of PvP game.Agony Empire will be starting a clan in Mortal Online and we are especially interested in PvPers from Eve that wish to play Mortal Online as well. This new clan will not affect our Eve online operations (now under the capable leadership of Bamar) but will be in addition to those activities.
If you have flown with Agony as a member or student, we are especially interested in you. If you havent even heard of us in Eve online first get out of the cardboard box and then come on over to our Mortal Online clan anyway.
The clan in Mortal Online will be PvP focused but if you are a carebear that would love to get into PvP in MMOGs then you are welcome as well. As usual in Agony Empire, we will require all members to have a basic PvP proficiency even if that is not their main focus. Agony is a group of adults that play together and enjoy the rush of combat.
So if you are interested in Mortal Online, drop by http://mortal.agony-empire.com and go sign up for the beta of Mortal Online at http://www.mortalonline.com. PvPers, alliance members, pirates, carebears and all other types of people are welcome so long as you are mature and have an interest i nplaying with an organized group of pvp focused players.
We look forward to seeing you.

Setting sail for disappointment once again I am afraid, although the optimist in me is excited and so I hope to see you there!

The technology of today just isn't ready for twitch-based gaming on massive scales. Yeah, I read their whole "compromise" idea between maneouvering, attacking, blocking and auto-blocking, but let's just face it, even 1st person shooters with only a handful of players on the same server have lag issues if you increase their numbers too high... get anything that resembles an "epic battle" in a MMO, and you're almost guaranteed a lagfest even with targeted effects, let alone FPS-esque damage dealing models. Heck, the video on their front page isn't any better than Darkfall, the graphics are better, but the character movement and everything is just... meh. In another 2 years, maybe even three, if the economy doesn't crush the pace of computer hardware development, it might be possible. But I have serious doubts it's economically feasable nowadays. It's hard to be excited for what seems to be the next dissapointment on the horizon... just saying.

Actually, if they decided to go with client side computation, it suddenly becomes much easier to do twitch based gaming and related concepts. The downside to this is that with client side computation comes client side hacking to get your client to do things that it shouldn't.

That is a risk but I think there are appropriate compromises that can be made. Planetside has a good compromise between twitch and tactical combat interface. If it had a bit of depth it would have made a good MMOG instead of a 2 month pla and leave past time.
Mortal has some potential and after the release of Darkfall disaster, I am sure Star Vault will do better.
Come sign up on the site and get registered. The more agony people we have in the clan, the more Star Vault will be interested in having Agony Participate in the beta.

If hacking is viable in an MMO (and if you do a thing client-side it will be) I am pretty sure it will be a terrible game, especially if the PVP is meaningful.
"Hey guys, I just got my Cloudsong, this is awesome!"
*arrow instantly kills player, who loses said cloudsong and all other loot*
"OMFG SOME HACKER JUST JACKED MY CLOUDSONG!"
This only has to happen to ONE PERSON ever to compromise the entire game world. Is that guy who just beat you using an attack speed hack? Who knows! But he beat me so he probably is!
It would ruin PVP, and I would never play it.

I have high hopes for the game, if only because it will broaden the genre, but I can see it now:
Great launch (I have no basis for this, just setting it high as an example), one that rivals even WoW.
Then, a few days later the cheaters get their hands on it - if they use client-side procedures. Suddenly the hackers are in complete control and the game is rendered completely unplayable.
Server wipe.
Players quit by the ark-load. Game dies.
I write this only as a warning that so many previous MMOG launches have failed to realize: **** happens; be prepared for it. Most don't and they go through hell adjusting to it. You'd think after 12+ years someone would be taking notes and wouldn't repeat all the same mistakes over and over again. Now they may be trying to include new ones too (an admirable quality, in a twisted way).

I have learned long ago, to treat all MMORPG in development like crap, they are a failure.
This way i don't get disappointed with every MMORPG that comes out and if I get proven wrong, great!

I am all for caution and skepticism but I think that is pretty much in the realm of cynicism.

I understand its (not even?) in beta, but i have one thing to say.
Environment graphics looks good. Character animation and graphics are terrible. Even the shadows for the character you play were off.
Looks horrible from an outsiders point of view tbh, will not be following this at all. ______________________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I was going for farcical, actually. But as the guy above pointed out, it's better to be cynical and pleasantly surprised than hopeful and crushed.

This is my worry too. It will be a constant battle against cheaters. A few incidents and that is all you hear as a good player and people propably petition you constantly for cheating. This happens in free games, where you spawn immediately with no death penalty or loss, so I can only imagine how it will be for an full priced MMO.

It is a cropped version of some very inspiring concept art. I do admit it looks nice. :)
Agony is a clan of adults, not children.

Beyond functioning in the game, graphics are irrleevant. And judging from graphics from a beta render is a bit premature.
So go for the glitz all you want. Glitz doesnt impress me, only gameplay.

That is a bit fatalsitic. THere are ways to detect and ban such cheaters so the question will be how the game company intends to handle beta testing to weed out these problems and how they intend to handle post release cheaters.
Finally I will point out that Eve has dealt with its share of cheaters as well. Dont mistake the 5 year old game it is now for what it was.

Rells has no idea what you're talking about as Rells left Darkfall 4 weeks before the events you're describing, long before Agony joined the Dvergheim Compact whose leader clan made several stupid decisions on their own like attacking SoV. Hell, Agony didn't even know about it until we saw the political map the day after. They were a very disorganized alliance. We didn't stay there long.
Nice attempt at a troll though.
Try to be more clever next time
