Level 3.
I can't access the missions 2nd level jump bridge in a battleship which is all i have that can take on the npcs in that level.
I've never seen such a restriction in a level 3 mission and it doesn't say anything about that in the mission briefing. Is this something new? Regards, August |

Some gate restrict access you dont "need" a battleship a myr or drake will do fine.

I only have a BS, an inty and a hauler. To get anything else would cost way more than the mission pays. My point is that nowhere in the mission briefing does it mention this restriction.

Sounds like you better get one then. Or just decline the mission. |

There is no indication in the mission briefing so how would i know to decline it? Regards, August |

There are a few lvl 3 missions that have the gate restrictions. Nothing you can do about it, and there's no way to tell in the breifing. It sucks I know. Get a myrm for lvl 3's anyway. Its worth the effort and ISK.

Please let us know about missions that are like this (have gate restrictions, but no warning about that ahead of time).
It's something we can fix easily by adding some warning text to the briefing, what's hard is finding all the instances of this. You can help by bug reporting them as you see them. I've fixed this mission right now though, so you needn't BR this one. Should find it's way to TQ in one of the upcoming patches.
We can fix them en masse hopefully, someday, with a macro/script that goes through the system, identifies all instances and highlights them, but that's beyond the scope for now. Currently, the best way forward is to deal with these as we come across them. Since it's such a quick fix, that's not too hard.
Cheers guys

CCP Dropbear:
I had the same problem with the same mission several months ago. When I petitioned the issue, I explained that I was flying a battleship, that I had never trained for BCs, and that I didn't think my Vexor could tank the mission. I also pointed out then (which, as I said, was several months ago) that I wouldn't have accepted the mission had I been told about the gate restrictions and wasn't looking forward to either spending the better part of a week training a BC or taking the standing hit for not finishing the mission.
The response was that it was considered part of the game and I then spent a week training for a Drake.
Your response was much more helpful but one wonders why it wasn't changed when I petitioned the issue.

Sometimes it takes a while for an issue/feature to be regarded as unintended and thus, something we need to fix. I'm only guessing, but perhaps that's the case here. From what you say it sounds like we weren't classing this as a defect back then, which would explain the response you received.
We're going to begin to fix it now though, as we recognize that it's not something we want. This will take time to do manually, of course. It's a pretty far-reaching mechanic found in a lot of missions. As I said, hopefully we can expedite a broader fix eventually with some sexy script or somesuch.
Incidentally, I just got out of a brainstorming meeting about possible UI fixes. One thing we discussed was having the system do a check of the dungeons in any offered mission, and then automatically spit out some default warning text about gate restrictions. Similar to cargo missions warning you that your current ship doesn't have the required m3 to move the goods your agent needs you to. No promises and the typical disclaimer here, but hopefully from that you can see that we have it in mind and are looking for solutions.
And of course in the meantime, you can bug report 'em and we'll make any needed changes manually.

as i said on the Mission forum, the lvl2 mission Communication Cold War briefing is not really explicit about the gate limitation.

wouldn't it be quicker to just use sql to return all instances where the gate type has restrictions and the mission brief does not contain the word restrict?
or with the volume of players is it just quicker to have them reported by the players? If you going to go the player route may as well give people a heading to report it under so that the search is quicker and duplicates can be contained easier.

Lately i decided to finish those 10 part newbie tutorial missions and some of them allow any t1 ship with size of frigate to cruiser but not any of their T2 counterparts. Yes i know i am lazy but dont like jumping 5+5 jumps just to refit modules to T1 ship and then do 5+5 jumps again to actually finish mission.

I'm not being funny but surely the mission team should know which missions have gate restrictions on since they put them there in the first place, so go and ask them
If they don't know then there must be something in the database somewhere that they can look at which restricts the types of ships allowed through a gate.
It's a pain when you get to a gate and can't get a fat-ar$3d BS through and that's the only ship you've got in the area.
It's not often I'm wrong, apart from the comments I make in the signature, and then I'm often wrong. On the other hand maybe I'm getting confused. ......My head hurts :( |

I would like to thank CCP Dropbear for this post and the other recent posts. Your information is helpful and informative and your questions indicate you're looking for solutions not just closing trouble tickets. More importantly, acknowledging problems and discussing solutions defuses a lot of the "CCP s*cks" commentary. Kudos for opening up the lines of communication. I hope your coworkers take your cue. |
