I have a majority of my combat skills in missiles. But being as there is one Battle ship in the game that really utilities missiles I was wondering if it would be worth going into gunnery. For contrast I have 101k gun skills and 2.8 mill missile skills.

Are you going to be strictly missioning or will there be some PvP involved? Gun skills are very good, and many of the skills involved translate between the major types (hybrids, projectile, and lasers).
There's quite a bit more training involved because of the prerequisites needed to T2 guns, but I think it's absolutely worth training. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Worth it for what?
-RR gangs are armor based. You can get RR armor ravens (mostly as anti-falcon) or use the typhoon with a mix of RRs / cap warfare in your last four highs.
For missions missiles are graet, for ratting they're great.
-For small gang pvp the drake is awesome, if you want a BS the raven is great provided you fly with good tackle, since it can't really fit it's own. If you want a cruiser the cerb is OK, the curse is meh and the sac is meh.
-Solo sac and solo drake are totally doable too. People even like the crow as an interceptor.
You lack a competitive throw away cruiser as a missile user and lack a fleet sniper option. But other than that you have nearly all the pvp roles filled, even if you lack variety in what you can use to fill those holes.
If you're a low skillpoint character trying to decide if you need guns, I'd say no, but with the two noted exceptions.

Yep, they're worth it. I'd master what you're working on first though, because Eve is a game of specialization and doing two things poorly is generally worse than doing one well (see armor+shield tanking and long+short range weapons).

If you like missiles, stick with them. For Caldari, there are very few roles hybrids will fill that missiles won't. Once you're done perfecting that, you can train gunnery skills (I would go for drones first), as the Caldari gun boats usually fill more niche roles (such as fleet sniper in the Rokh).
You'll eventually want to cross train, so even if you don't like or don't use them much as caldari, gunnery and drone skills are a good investment.

On a side note:
If you have 101k SP in gunnery that means you have not trained Weapon Upgrades V and Advanced Weapon Upgrades IV.
These skills are absolutely mandatory for players who wish to fit their ships for combat, even missile users. As such I recommend getting Weapon Upgrades V and Advanced Weapon Upgrades IV (V recommended) to enhance your missile-fitted ships.

They are worth it, especially the large ones... great source of minerals when reprocessing. -----------------------------------------------

This.
I also believe that missiles will have a use even for battleships now that the Scorpion will be seeing changes. Standard, Heavy and Heavy Assault are currently fine.
Missiles are really fine when compared to the other weapon systems. Large lasers are obviously better but neither large blasters/projectiles are very good atm and arguably on par with torps and cruise. Missiles sport top notch medium sized weapon systems, it's only rockets that really suck in comparison to the options available. Then again there aren't a whole lot of good laser frigates either, hybrids and projectiles seem to rule the frigate scene.
I'd work on my missile skills, should you feel that you wanna PvP in something smaller later on then train for hybrids and fly a Harpy or go for projectiles and hop into a Jaguar.

My comment was from a PvP perspective, as far as PvE is concerned missiles are all fine and dandy.

It's all relative. You can pvp in a missile boat. Each weapon system has strengths and weaknesses. The biggest drawback to pvp-ing in a missile boat is later when you are in a sniper BS in a fleet fight. Missiles take a while to travel to the target. So often the primary will be dead before your missiles reach. You can shoot the secondary, but this is often frowned upon.
Noone will turn a Cerb or Sacrilege out of a fleet (whereas you may be told to leave the Raven and Drake at home). And if you fly a ceptor a big advantage of the Crow is not having to worry about tracking. So don't listen to the latest whinings on the forums. As a user of both weapons systems for pve and pvp, missiles are fine for the most part. Every weapon has a drawback (lasers-cap suckage, projectiles snoozer rof and dps, hybrids- tracking and low alpha, missiles- travel time and scaling to target). And no matter what weapons you train you can rest assured they will undergo a nerf and buff cycle

Missiles have this characteristic of being sub par performers in sniper fleets (due to missile flight time). So unless you are participating in many battleships sniper fleets you should be fine with missiles/torpedos.
Like Liang mentioned, train up what you currently use because getting tech 2 on your weapons as well as on your mods is very important. Later on when you feel your skills are excellent at missiles start branching out into gunnery. It will take awhile to get all the gunnery skills up especially for tech 2 but when you do you will be glad you did.
