The minmatar tank consists of a full rack of Gyrostabilizer II's, as if you can do enough damage it doesn't matter what your EHP is.
When will people learn!?

Except other races can fit 3+ damage mods, outdamage you, and THEN fit a tank.

The Typhoon can be fit with a 7 slot tank, do around 850 DPS and has a heavy neut to boot.

And the geddon can do the same, with 950 DPS, and much more range.

Eh what? A full rack? Did you miss this part in the description:
Quote:
Penalty: Using more than one type of this module or similar modules that affect the same attribute on the ship will be penalized.
After the third one you're just wasting slots. And congratulations, with a "full rack" of gyros you do almost as much damage as non-upgraded ships of other factions as long as nobody is moving. And you're at optimal range.

By god, don't load a Torp Raven in your EFT or your head might explode. More damage, double the range w/ faction ammo and changeable damage type.

Not a waste if you're getting more dps!

More than three gyros is a waste of slots. You're better off throwing on a couple of tracking enhancers to make sure all that extra dmg is actually hitting your target. Many people have actually done the math, like this guy...

If numbers aren't your thing...

As you can see by the graph, the 3rd mod gives you just under 60% effectiveness. The fourth gives less than 30%.

Edited by: Rogue Lilly on 07/04/2009 16:13:57 I have to say I kinda see the point here. I've been flying minmatar and recently I had two friends start playing, one gallante the other ammar. I loaded up eft for them to throw together a fitting or two for their ships to show them......and I was completely blown away. I could fit 3xdamage mods, a 3 or 4 slot tank, MWD, WD, and web on most of their ships.
When I fit my minmatari ships I have to decide on only half of these things for each ship and make compromises. I thought that's how everyone had to fit until I tried out the other guys.
A big part of it is that I shield tank which takes a ton more slots, usually on ships that have less slots overall already. Because yes a shield tanking ship usually has one more mid slot, but in exchange you lose 2 or 3 lows.

Yep, though because of speed and agility the small and medium ships are still quite good, even with those restrictions.
It's really the battleships that suffer, because they can no longer speed tank. The Typhoon was considered the best PvP battleship when you could make it zip around like an interceptor.

It was considered ungodly overpowered. As in no point in undocking.
That wasn't PvP, that was PvE (Player versus Everyone).

If you think you can shield tank... do L4s in a Cyclone solo.
If you think you can armor tank... do L4s in a Hurricane solo.
And I dont mean the "easy" L4s either....
That should be the certificate for uber shield tanking... being able to shield tank All L4s in a Cyclone Solo with no emergency warp outs. Likewise, the certificate for uber armor tanking in a Hurricane.

I'm confused by this. I posted a thread a while back asking about speed tanking in mini ships when I cross trained out of caldari(a couple weeks after starting). The answer was a resounding "NO." Basically every post was about how speed tanking is pointless in anything other than a frigate with an AB. All I heard was the speed you have to achieve to begin minimizing damage was not possible to reach anymore. Something about QR, which was a little before my time. The only exception to this I've heard is that a stabber can potentially speed tank if that's all it's fitted for.

I have not successfully speed tanked since QR. I also haven't spent the isk on snakes (actually not true I've got most of a set of snakes in my hanger, but they're not plugged in). Sig tanking/Speed seems to be easier, but that's limited to frigs.
