Hello space friends.
Posts 2-5 in this thread are for the Incursus, Merlin, Punisher and Rifter; these are the "standard" New Bee tackle platforms for Goonfleet, designed for brand new players to fly in fleets of all sizes. The singular focus on tackle with only a secondary focus on fitting weapons allows the new pilot to be useful his very first day in space, realistically being able to contribute to taking down anything from a Capsule to a Carrier. A tertiary focus on each hull is the acquisition of loot and salvage after battles, which is the birthright of every new bee. |

Each race also has a dedicated "fast tackle" ship from which evolves the Interceptor-class advanced frigates. These are the Atron for the Gallente, the Condor for the Caldari, the Executioner for the Amarr, and the Slasher for the Minmatar. While these ships can go faster than the options I have presented, they are usually overlooked because they do not have the three mid slots which allow for the "core" of a tackle setup: a MicroWarpdrive, a Stasis Webifier, and a Warp Scrambler. Each of these ships do deserve to be mentioned in a thread focused on the new bees, though; they are very cheap, very fast and very agile. This makes them great taxis to get you from one place to another, whether in Empire or nullsec. |

Afair goons posted/filmed tackler guide with sane MSE merlin fit, not with this crap... You are Mistaken Goonfleet's doctrine has never been to make sensible fits; it has been to make uniform fits that just about anyone can fly. In a fleet engagement, there is much less significance on outcome placed on the "proper" fitting of each ship compared to the number of ships and their use. You could argue for one of the popular Rifter fits on Battleclinic that has a 400mm plate or a MSE, and it is true that such a thing would last longer in a 1v1 or small gang encounter; but, this super-cheap and low-skill fit would last just as long in a realistic fleet scenario where a Rifter either takes no damage at all because it is not targeted or it dies in one hit from an artillery-fit Hurricane (or a swarm of hundreds of light drones) without respect to its "tank". We do not believe in talking up the finer points of ship fitting to our newbees, for fear of overwhelming them with information that is mostly-irrelevant.
This is not out of some attempt to thumb our noses at "Elite PVP," but rather a pragmatic analysis of realistic scenarios and the impact such changes would have. We do fit tanks to our larger shipsGÇöones that can reasonably be expected to survive a few shots from something in a fleet fight; but, it is a widely accepted dynamic that tacklers, if suddenly targeted and shot, will die no matter how they are fit. We therefore choose to focus on speed and sustainability of the tackler rather than the durability. |

No sure that "How to be a good cannon fodder guide" is a kind of thing I'd like to point my kids towards. But, if you are going to play goon-style - why not |

You ever have the noobs rig it? Either the noobs could train for the however many mins to rig it or have someone else do it. shield resist rigs are cheap as dirt, explosive and thermal rigs for additional survival time against warriors and hobgoblins.

I've always found the maller to be a decent tackler for a newer pilot to use. It is cheap and you can put a decent brick tank on it. Well, enough of a tank for them to hold tackle long enough for the cavalry to arrive. Obviously it is pretty much a meat shield, and will end up popped against all but the most incompetent opponent. But, it does provide a nice way to include newer pilots in a gang and give them a way to make a direct contribution. |

The mallers heyday was back when there were AoE doomsdays and the maller could tank them. Nowadays a newbie can do better flying a stabber, its a lot quicker meaning you might actually get a tackle. but if a newbie can fly cruisers why isnt he flying a blackbird?
in about 2 weeks a newbie can fly a ballin Blackbird and shut down elite PEEVEEPEEers. Nothing is funnier than the rage from some 25 mil sp guy who is getting shut down by a newbee in a blackbird.
Tackle -> ECM -> other **** thats the new bee progression
newbees are the ****

If a rifter gets targeted by a hurricane a DCU isnt gonna save it getting in close and orbiting at 500m while scramming the enemy is his best chance. Might as well have the cap to run his MWD and point. The ships are disposable and free for newbees. So its not like someone is getting a bad deal or something.
