Due to an unfortunate mistake with neural remapping I've taken to maxing out Engineering and Electronics skills before I try and take more advanced ships. With that in mind, how far can I go with a Rifter or Thrasher as far as missions/PvE are concerned?
I'm using a Thrasher right now in Level 1 missions and they're all pretty simple, really no challenge. I use Tech2 guns and blast everything from about 30km away. Will I be able to take the Thrasher into Level 2 missions?
I know Rifter can do some of the level 2 missions, I remember doing them a few years ago on an older character. Between these two ships will I be able to complete most of the level 2 stuff? I've almost got a level 2 agent available now so it's something to start thinking about.
There's also the option of training to cruisers 1 or 2 and flying a Rupture with tech1 medium guns. I'll have the skills for tech2 shield fittings soon so I'll be able to shieldtank decently. Would a Rupture with tech1 guns be far superior to a Rifter/Thrasher with Tech2?

While attributes count for a bit, learing skills and implants far outweights any reamap unless you plan on getting skills like BS level 5 or capital skills.
Feel free to tran cruiser level 4 and other level 4 skills, it is handy for PvE in level 2s :).
Rifters are ok, but I am not too sure it would handle well in level 2's (it is a years since I did anyhting lower then level 4 tho, so i might be off).

You might be able to do a L2 and maybe some L3's in a Rifter... but I doubt the thrasher would perform so well. I remember that the Moa/Vexor was a huge step up from the Cormorant for PVE.
IMO train Cruiser 3, BC 4, Med Proj 4 and move on.

You're going to want a cruiser for lvl 2s. While the thrasher can burn through lvl 1s, its got the sig radius and speed of a cruiser, the tank of a frigate, and damage output somewhere in between. The rupture is a much better mission boat. (Don't get me wrong, I love my thrasher; I just wouldn't do PvE in it.) ----

Honestly, you might just want to buckle down and train some ship skills anyways. If you managed to screw up your attributes, it's going to be a year before you can fix it. If missions are going to be your primary source of income, you don't want to be stuck running level 1's and 2's for a year.
You might consider picking up a Hulk if you don't want to progress towards level 4 missions. I would always try and make sure you have a decent form of income though, and if you don't yet, prioritize that in your training.

Rifter WILL do level 2's if fit properly and flowns like a minmatar should.
T2 AC's Med Shield Extender, Inv Field and AB PDU's and Overdrives
Make sure its cap stable with the AB and Inv Field running. Use Cap Power Relays if necessary in the lows
The trick is to make sure you never stop moving. Orbit targets at a set 500M and max speed (will throw you out to about 1.5 km orbit). Never use approach, manually fly to the next target to keep traversal up.

If you don't mind spending a couple days in a bad sp/hr skill, get assault frigates, they can easily take on L2s, can do L3s and some L4s if you are very careful and don't mind how long it will take you (hours).
Otherwise, go with what was said above, train a couple bigger ships anyway, I just remapped, I messed up at char creation, and that never stopped me from training long ship/gun skills.

I've done every lvl 2 in the arty thrasher. A full rack of 250 tech 2 and tracking comp with a range extender and 2 gyro stabs, sit a 35k with tremor and keep that distance. I've taken down rat BC in lowsec in it and when pirates want to play hitting for 1300 at 30k makes them turn tail most of the time. I love my thrasher to death.

High: 7 250 tech 2 / 1 salvager Mid: tech2 afterburner/ tracking computer tech 2(load with range script if you have range. load tracking and emp rounds if enemies get too close) / if you don't have long range targeting skill up use a booster so you can lock 30k out, if you can lock 30+ out use a target painter (it really does help) Low: 2 gyro stabs tech 2
Important note: To fit this you need Weapon Upgrades 5 and Advanced Weapon Upgrades 3
When flying always warp 50k off, the little fast craft will get in range first and by the time you pick them off the slower big ships will be in range and just keep your range above 30 and nothing can kill you. It is a blast to fly and if you want to rat just take out the AB and put a MWD in.

Just spend a week to get a Drake with T1 launchers and level II-III in some support skills, and AFK every level 1, 2 or 3 mission in the game. If you can spare a bit more time, you'll also AFK every level 4 in the game, though pretty slowly. ==========

Well, I can fly alot of ships already, including Navy Apoc which I run L4's with, and T2 variants like Inties, AF's, Recons, HAC's, SB's, Ewar frigs et.c.
But I like to have a bit of fun and a challenge, so doing L2's with that Trasher setup might be for a new player out to farm isk, a waste of time, but for me it's something fun to do. Doing L4's in a Navy Apoc is no different or more exciting than mining anyways.
Target roid/rat, engage laser, wait, target new roid/rat, engage laser, wait.. it's quite boring.
But hey, that's my cup of tea, and not everyone likes to have challenges.
Thanks for posting the trasher setup btw, I gave it a whirl in a slightly different setup. Was quite tough, but it managed. I was using a small shield booster in 3rd midslot heh. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

Well if you're going to be a smart-arse, I can be one too. I didn't say challenge and mission in same sentence :P L2Read.
And no, if you read the first bit in my reply, you would have seen that I already stated missions being dead-boring, again L2Read.
Lastly, running L2's with a Destroyer does give you a challenge since there is a good chance your ship gets popped if you fly like you normally do in missions.

If you want a PVE challenge, you might try WoW. This game isn't really built for intellectually stimulating PVE, but rather the PVE is a pure grind for easy ISK.
I would say you probably need to spend less time carebearing in Empire if you're so bored that you're running missions in destroyers, but it's your $15.

I've already been running PvP in low/no sec both solo and in roaming gangs, using HAC's, Recons, AF's, Inty's et.c. I'm in highsec grinding standing up with a new corp for my industry alts, hence why it's L2's. I could carebear my way through them using overkill ships, but I prefer to do it in a bit more fun way than mind numbing hull-mining.
Not sure why you are throwing up a patronizing attitude in reference to anyone doing something outside the box. Perhaps you're either just sexually frustrated, a troll, been flamed too much in C&P or otherwise just wanna mouth off at other people's expense, but it's your $15 -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

Wow, so mad over me finding "missions" and "challenge" humorous?
Hurf and blurf a bit more please about all you do. To be honest, I could care less if you screw around in missions in a Rifter all day long. Like I said, it's your $15.

Tried that Trasher setup. Works great in L2's. In fact, it feels like it does it easier than the Omen did since it has the lower sig and higher speed. Only thing it struggles with is missions where there are missile batteries. Need to warp out sometimes then.
Otherwise awesome fit :) Just done Illegal Activity, Blockade and a few others without a problem :) -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

glad to see people using it. Poor neglected thrasher, people kind of laugh at you but they stop when you can make cruisers pop. Who wouldn't want someone in their gang that can pop drones and frigs like no other?
