Do target painters have a stacking penalty if multiple are on the same ship? Like damage mods? Neither night nor day can give me purchase. Only purged dust on earth can avenge the worthless. |

Their descriptions indicates NO, their database entry says no. But they DO have stack penalties. Have already been reported as bug, recognized as bug but never anythign was done about it.

On a related note - I know that a target painter makes it easier to hit your target, but how do they work exactly? --Vel

I believe they effectively raise the sig radius of the target. |

that is true, and as such, it does not only make you track better, but all your mates locks that target faster and missiles get less damage reduction due to explotion radius
it ads the same amount of tracking as a target computer for all that targets the ship

Yes they have a stacking penalty. Which is good, imagine what a fleet of vigils and dreads could do otherwise

Target Painters and Tracking Computers do NOT nerf stack however. Play around with your ships and the tracking guide to see how evil this can be...

If the tracking guide would still exist. Can't find it in this new Wiki thing.
And the other two tracking calculators I found, give out different results, so which one is right?:

It's more than a TC. A scripted TC gives a 30% boost to tracking; a PWNAGE with Sig Foc IV gives a 36% boost to tracking (37.5% with Sig Foc at V), and every ship in your gang benefits from it. For missiles, it also reduces the damage mitigation caused by speed as well as sig issues.
But remember that a web is far more effective at increasing tracking and reduce missile damage mitigation from speed, so if you expect to operate within web range you should fit a web, not a painter.
Also note that painters stack with the sig bloom of a MWD.

A 720mm Hurricane can be made to track like an Artythrasher. If you really want it. You only need 3 good pilots. --------------- ∞ TQFE

O good grief. I couldn't find it either. That sucks. I used to pour ridiculous amount of time trying to see if I could get tracking up high enough to hit nano ships back in the day. Target painters and tracking computers worked from opposite ends of the spectrum the way overdrives and nanofibers USED to work. Target painters worked very well up to a weapon's optimal and then quickly faded. Tracking computers usually gave a better boost overall but only applied to YOUR ship. TP for long range weapons. TC for short range. Both if you wanted a tracking god.
