I am a new player and I just bought a secure container. When I tried to anchor it, it said I needed to be in .7 sec or lower. I was wondering what happens to the container if I don't anchor it since it is a pain for me to move all my stuff to another station. PS: I'm also looking for a good mining corp to join

I'm pretty sure it'll simply disappear after a few hours

An unanchored container in space will disappear 2 hours after it has been deployed, no exceptions. Anchoring it will allow it to stay in space for 30 days since the last time you accessed it.
For the purposes of holding your stuff while in a station or in a ship's cargohold, there's no need to be able to anchor it. ---

If it's left in space near a POS, anchored or not, it stays in space forever (I think it counts anything on grid.)

Sorry, no. You have to go into wormholes and get farmed by the new AI NPCs like everyone else...

Edited by: Lord Fitz on 10/04/2009 08:29:57 deployables (containers, pos bubbles etc) do NOT disappear when not anchored. Only wrecks/jettison containers are subject to the short-term cleanup. (non-jettison containers will be subject to the long term clean up rules, anchored or not, unless near a POS).
However, there is little to no point in using one that isn't anchored because anyone can just take it, and they're much smaller than a jettison container.
People say jettison containers last 2 hours, however I've had one pop in 61 minutes, and one last 14 hours across a downtime (it was just dependent on when the clean up was run). They're guaranteed for an hour.

Check out the link in my sig, we have been working with several folks aspiring to be miners and helping them get off the ground. -------------
