Hello, im looking to train for t2 lasers, mainly for doing missions, but cant figure out which to train for. Im going to be flying a paladin in a month or so, and for now im flying an apocalypse. I've tried fitting both T2 pulses and T2 beams on a paladin and they seem pretty even. Pulses are great for short range as expected, and beams being great for long range. The thing is though, I seem to get kinda low DPS on the beams. Could be my SP, im not sure since other people say Beams are always the way to go. I'd like some input on this. Thanks.

Why not use pulse and fit a tracking comp if you need more range?.

For the Paladin, I would go with T2 Tachyon beams overall. There are some missions that pulses work wonders on, but they're easily doable with Tachyons.
You might consider AN Tachyon's though instead of T2. Although they deal less damage, they also use a good bit less cap.

I would use pulse on an apoc.
Tachs on a Paladin.
IMO.

It shouldn't take you long to train for both. What everyone has said seems correct to me, but I would suggest getting both. Beyond giving you extra versatility, it'll require strong gunnery skills, which you want regardless.

So cry more? I never have a problem; I just slowboat into range while i kill it... tachyons deal with anything under 40k well enough...
Also, a faction web gives you plunty of range (especally overloaded)..

I think its a no brainer on a paladin tachs everytime, buy yourself a 5% grid implant if using T2

So, you know, warp to nearest moon, warp back in again? Or, given that it's not a deadspace mission, go back for your salvager (if appropriate).

Faster to refit than to align the bloody thing twice tbh :P not like refitting takes very long, since you can have a pulse and beam fit both saved...
on damsel i like to fit pulse just for the variety __________________________________

Thanks for the advice guys! Looks like im going to have to train for both. A bit time consuming but w/e, bout 2 months for paladin, then 1 month each for t2... I'll go for tachs first, give me a nice change of pace for once instead of the regular mega pulses. BTW, hows the tracking with tachyons + AN Multifrequency? The dps doesn't seem that bad considering I can shoot from 40km away, but can it still hit stuff hard within lets say less than 20km? Or would I have to fit a tracking enhancer or w/e.

pretty easy to just swap my tracking comp script to a tracking speed script and blow stuff up that way when it goes too fast, and if it is in 18km or less it is in web range
tachy pally ftw

I'm with you on that one. Shove another tracking comp on it and it's simply sick...hitting frigs orbiting you at 20km ftw.
