Not really. The issue is being beaten by people who HAVE cheated. People don't mind death by NPCs (most of the time) since NPCs follow a set of rules. Players, on the other hand, have a bad habit of seeking out every possible loophole in the game mechanics they can find to make themselves 'invincible'. I, for one, have no problem getting blasted sky to space dust while mining in 0.0 by a player pirate. I DO have a problem getting blasted by a player pirate in .2 space because they put 200 jet cans at the gate insuring I wouldn't load in time to react. (for example)
Sure, not all player pirates try to exploit game mechanics as such, but it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the bunch.
