one of my friends in game was mentioning he uses dual heavy cap boosters on his archon, and I told him he was insane. Was I right? or is there actually some merit to using em?
(sounds crazy to me, but then again I have a caldari main)

For cap regen, a cap booster give you a better regen than a cap recharger, even on a cap. You still need charges etc, wich takes up room for your fuel, so it's not common.

Cap boosters are not cap rechage and is only suited on sub cap ships.

No, it works out to more cap recharge. Also, the less fitting slots you have for cap mods the better the cap boosters become. There's also the advantage of having a more linear cap regen since it would not drop off from 30% as much.
But as halsoy said, logistics is a ***** and the space is too precious for cap boosters.

Fitting a cap booster on a capital is stupid and moronic. The figures you get on EFT and eveHQ dont include it's reload iirc. The more cap charge modules you put on, the more the recharge stacks - there is no module penalty for cap recharge, above basic stacking.
In a dreadnaught you want damage and massive un-sustainable tank, so you can survive out siege mode long enough to get remote rep'd.
On a carrier you should be using pure cap recharge and tank with some remote reps on the highs (drone control units are a waist unless you're flying a gank thanatos). Your aim is to be able to sustain whatever rep's you have indefinately or for at least 15+ minutes. 1 cap booster gives more cap recharge than 1 cap recharger - but stick on 3x CCC on your rigs and some CPR's on the low's (yes, even a chimera can use CPR's and maintain a sicker tank than other carriers if fitted properly) and that cap recharger will become much preferable after 4-5 cap modules all add up. 100% * 1.2 = 120%, then 100 * 20 * 20 = ~144%, and so on.
Long story short, no - cap boosters are a waisted slot and not pheasible for REAL capital situations. -------
