Whats the best overall salvager ship? Whats the best salvager ship (cost not a factor) that doesn't require Battle ship V?
The destroyers, at least my fit, often don't have the cargo to clean out L4s. While they are excellent price/performance I find them lacking. I'm currently looking at BSs at alternatives but they seem kinda slow.

Hurricane, pretty much. A bit over 2k cargo with lows full of expanders.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

my main uses a nano-Omen for ninja salvage...its not the best but can hold quite a bit mor than a destroyer...i think it get just as fast a s AB fitted destroyer too :P
also try a oversized-AB fitted hurricane i hear those work wonders :P ================================================

Whichever marauder you think looks cooler, or is easiest to skill for.

Hurricane is often quoted as the best (I have one, and its a welcomed step over a destroyer), with interdictors and destroyers being good alternatives.

Cane is well worth the 3? days it takes to skill for (assuming you already have BC 3) from frigate level 0. 2km3+ cargo, 3 rig slots for salvage tackle (mine are empty), 8 highs, cap is plenty and room for both MWD and AB, speed around 750m/s.

whatever can fit 8x salvagers and 3x salvage rigs. I already balled the wrecks with my paladin

As has been said, if you're cleaning up after a Marauder with a tractor, then a BS with 8 Salvagers, 3 Salvage Tackle rigs and a full rack of Cargo Expander II's is the way to go. Fit an AB & MWD for good measure.
They may seem slow but if you're only AB'ing/MWD'ing to a ball of wrecks, you'll clean them up very, very quickly and you'll get 100% of the loot & salvage into it first time. No having to return for a second or third run.
The Megathron and Apocalypse both work very well in that role.

Don't know if I would call it the "best" but I'm having fun in my Itty III with 2 Salvagers, 1 AB, and 3 Overdrives.

Edited by: toothless spider on 13/04/2009 16:47:51 Raven with 3 CCC Is, 5 salvagers, 3 TBs, cap recharger IIs in middle with MWD and AB IIs, Cargo expanders in the lower.
Think of it as a backup Raven....except it has like 3k cargo space with expanders, depending on whether you've turned mission in or not will vary on the AB or MWD.
Pure money
IIRC I could pretty much run the MWD full time and tractor and salvage and no matter the mission (including AE) between this and my golem I could salvage everything in a very very short amount of time.
PS with my golem as primary I ran all tractors to pull in from 40km and loot items, then come through with the raven with 8 salvagers in order to salvage REALLY fast. Bookmark the balls of ships, warp in, salvage all, warp to next, go back to station.

I use a destroyer...
For MY mission salvaging:
4 salvagers, 4 tractor beams, 10nm AB, Cap Recharger II, 3 expander IIs and 3 cargo mods Works great
For Ninja salvaging: 7 salvagers, 1 cloak, 10nm AB, Cap Recharder IIs, lows to fly faster/more agile and 4 salvage mods

I've found that most lvl 4 missions don't have much more than 2k cargo. I use a Harbinger, 4 tractor beams 4 salvagers, 1 cargo optimization rig, lows full of cargo expander II's lets it hold just under 2k cargo.
Don't forget to fit a BS sized AB on your BC's, or a cruiser sized AB on a destroyer. Gives you a massive speed boost and you can use them in deadspace complex's.
Best salvager you will get is a Marauder though. 40 km tractor beams make life easier.

A destroyer? Ninjasalvaging?
Destroyers have HORRIBLE agility, which is a million times worse when you have a 10mn AB active.
If you're looting, get a cruiser. Fit a 10mn AB and, if you can, a 100mn AB. You will have the same top speed and better agility. You can use the 10mn AB for general flying around/maneuvering, and still have the 100mn AB if you need to clear large distances quickly (like to get to large wrecks). Another option is a frigate that uses a tractor to tow around a can.
If you're salvaging, just use a frigate.

For looting + salvaging I use Kronos. For salvaging only a Catalyst works well. Can also use a Drake if you wanted to. Haven't used a Hurricane but a lot of people swear by it.

Currently for mission salvaging I use a catalyst with 4/3 setup, 4 tractors, and 3x salvagers. I have an Ab and 3x expanded cargo holds, and a cap recharger II in the mid. I also have 2x salvage rigs on it. I found this the fastest way to salvage the large level4 missions I am running. On the off case that I have not enough cargo room (after dumping cap booster 800's and metal scraps)I assign one tractor to tow a cargo container behind me then BM and grab my industrial to pick up the cargo container when I am done. This works well for me as even in level 4's I am usually not maxing the cargo bay, and I tend to be no more then 1 system out of my corp base.

Hurricane ftw. 8 highs, large cargo, 3 rigs, high velocity with mwd/AB.

Edited by: Mykpilot on 15/04/2009 19:20:43 I looked at the following:
Hurricane (Battlecruiser)
High: 4x Salvager High: 4x Small Tractor Beam Mid: 100MN Afterburner Mid: 3x Cap Recharger Low: 6x Expanded Cargohold Rigs: 3x Salvage Tackle
Max Velocity: 600-650m/s Max Cargo: 2041m3 Cost: 90m ISK
This is probably the best fit for a salvager. The Damanation (field commandship) was slightly better in speed and cargo capactiy but lacked 3 rigs slots (so only 2x salvage tackles) and the cost would be about an extra 80m ISK. Battleship weren't optimal as there cost was 2-3 times as much and had about 1/3 the speed but 2x Cargoroom (which was unecessary).
But like some have said above, were basically looking at Battlecruisers, Commandships and Heavy Assualtships with the 8 high slots and lots of low slots. With that said, the Commandships and Heavy Assultships provide little benefit in the face of a high ISK price tag when it comes to salvaging.
I have thought about having 1 Battleship/Battlecruiser with 8x Salvagers and a second with 8x Small Tractor beams, if you run two characters.
