I bought the retail box. BIG MISTAKE. If you are a current subscriber, it is a total ripoff (unless you're looking for a second account).
I bought it so I could get the 60days of play time and the special shuttle. Shuttle is cool and all, but apparently you aren't allowed to get the 60days of game time AND the shuttle unless you take the game time on a brand new account. This would have been fine with me, if they had only SAID SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE I BLEW $40. I didn't find out about this until 6 days after I submitted a petition for help. I finally got a response, but it was basically "sorry, you just got screwed. AHHAHAHAHAAHAHHA!!!!! please let me know if there is anything else I can do, or if you'd like me to close the ticket."
HOW ABOUT RESOLVE IT FIRST.
Bottom line, don't buy the box!

Um, I have known about this since the box came out. Perhaps you should have done research before getting the box.

This is mentioned in most ads for this box.
Mainly this shuttle was intended as an exclusive gift to new players on new accounts. And that means you have to create a new account to obtain it.
I bought the box, created the account, and got a nice shuttle.

I'm sure that was hard...

$40 are almost like 3 plexes (but it would be wiser if you converted the 60 day GTC that comes in the box to four plexes, TBH.) Three plexes are like 1.8 billion ISK ingame. Four are 2.4 billion ISK. For that many billion IKS you can buy... how many Interbus shuttles? You can buy a T3 hull with that much ISKs! So as you see, by buying the box you get 4 plexes for almost the price of 3. Use 3 to extend your playing time and use the fourth to get around 600-650 million ISKs, then contract the shuttle from another player and use the rest to buy shiny stuff. That's not a ripoff, that's a pretty good deal if you ask me. ----

This has been common knowledge for some time since the release of the box set. I personally think it is cool as this becomes a true collectors item. It gives the shuttle some real value. However even then the value is minor. The box set is not meant to give something uber special, it is meant to bring in new players. In fact it does hwoever give something special. By the box set of ANY other MMO, you get 30 days, same price and 60 Days for EVE. Plus buy the box set of any other game and try to extend an existing account does not work. Try to use the time in the box set to make in game money, does not work.
The box set was not a rip off, you where just not a wise consumer and research what you where buying before you buy.

I saw a Eve retail box at Wal-Mart.
It had a bunch of WoW boxes backed into a corner.
I think they're going to put the video on COPS.

Yup, 30 seconds spent actually reading what is on the box would have saved the guy the trouble. To the OP, don't go shouting that something is a rip-off just because you don't have the mental capacity to read the details of what you are actually buying, makes you look kinda stupid .

Well, sounds like it's really my mistake, so I'll drop the petition. I hate the idea of having 2 accounts, but I can do the hauler alt idea and tell myself I didn't waste the money:)

Yes, sorry, my mistake. 1 x 60 days GTC = 2 x 30 days plexes. So you'd get around 1.2 billion ISK for that at current plex prices (around 600 millions.) You can extend you gameplay 30 days and use the 600 million ISKs to buy a shuttle. Or do whatever you want, really. ----

1 30 day plex goes for around 300 to 320 million, so 1 x 60 days GTC around 600 to 650 million.

Looking at my box, I can say you're very wrong. There is no mentioned anywhere on my box it's for new accounts only. Lots of people have confirmed there box is the same. The box is false advertiseing which means its illegal and breaking the law. ______ How to Passive Shield Tank T2

Well technically they can get away with this part as the se shuttle did get its cargo space doubled over the normal shuttle.

The packaging for the North American copy I picked up lists the following on the front bottom:
EXCLUSIVE QUICK START*
- 60-DAY GAME TIME
- INSTANT WAR ACCESS
- ADVANCED CAREER GUIDE
- VIP PASS
- SPECIAL EDITION SHIP
The * is footnoted on the back of the package in the lower right corner below the ESRB/WWW.EVEONLINE.COM:
*Quick Start items only available with new account activation
It's in the smallest font type akin to the copyright blurb and system requirements.

Not in the UK, it doesn't. It doesn't say anything on the subject whatsoever until you get inside the manual, by which point you've opened the box and the retailer won't take it back as it's a PC game.
Regardless of whether it says it or not though, it still sucks.

here's the thing - it's not the shuttle, exactly, it's the notion that people who've been playing the game already and who have no real impetus to buy the box set (and thereby support EvE/CCP) have no tangible reason to buy a copy. not even a gold tinted Gallente shuttle with 10m3 extra cargo hold.
someone like me (with 3 accounts, two of which came from the original box sets) has no reason to buy this, beyond sticking the box on my shelf with the other two. giving us a dumb shuttle or even the 'free war pass' for FW would motivate people to buy it.

There is the war access that skips lots of boring grinding which is worth far more than any shuttle and the guide which was sold as exclusive but is not exclusive.
Warrio GoonSwarm said "Wow, illegal and breaking the law! You must be one of those internet law gurus right?" No guru, anyone with basics reading skills or anyone who knows basics advertising laws in the UK or EU know the box is false advertising. You do not get whats in the advert which says the content is for everyone. The box has omissions on the limitations of the offer and the adverts that go along with the box mislead. You don't have to be a law guru to figure out that's wrong and comes under false advertising and breaking the law.
Reading the fine print does not cover it when there is no fine print about new accounts only and the adverts mention old accounts.
