you need +8 to the owner of the station, or the clone vat, to install a clone.

To install a new clone, yes.
To jump from that station to a clone you already have, leaving a clone body behind, no.
I promise nothingÖ. --CCP Prism X |

You OR your corp needs a standing of 8+ to the NPC corporation which owns the stations where you want to create a jumpclone. Check my comprehensive guide to jumpclones [PDF] for exact details.
If you don't want to grind standings you can join a corp which already has the required standings so you can create jumpclones 'using' that corp's standings. Several players (including myself) offer such services.

Personally, I'd grind up with one NPC faction anyways. Just to have clone vats to fall back on should your current corp or alliance turn sour. ______________ Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. |

Once created, jumpclones stay with you forever, the only way to 'lose' them is to manually destroy them. So if your current corp/alliance offers jumpclone access, get as many as you can and then there's no need to grind standings to "fall back on".

Some players offer a jumpclone service for a fee. It will require that you join their corp for minimum of 24 hours. Others here may be able to give that information. You could try browsing through the Trades and wants section on these forums.

Some even offer such a service free of charge

That's incorrect. There's no minimum time you have to be in a corporation. The 24h timer only applies when you have (or had) roles in the corporation and roles are not needed to create jumpclones. Some people using my service have been in and out of the corp in a matter of minutes (that would require both them and me being online at the same time) while most people are in for less than a day.
