Greetings.
With Walking in Stations on the horizon (however far we do not know), CCP have stated that combat in stations won't be allowed because of the Teaspoon Effect.
Simply put, this is the idea of an all powerful CEO/Titan Pilot having his eyes gouged out by a low skilled player with a teaspoon and the subsequent lulz/mismatch with status.
While I can personally see the point of this I still think that another implementation of combat in stations could be possible.
In space, we have arguably unconsensual PvP (although by undocking you consent to it). I'm not advocating unconsensual PvP in stations by the same measure.
I propose consensual PvP, similar to dual in other games. Call it bar brawl or whatever. In either case, invitations to brawl can be disabled by any player.
If you consent to a brawl, then limited combat becomes available. If this has to happen in a "boxing ring" or anywhere in the station then that is a matter of choice by CCP I guess.
However a brawl can then take place for fun. Loser gets to reappear either in the Captains Quarters or maybe respawns at the site of the fight so players can gloat or congratulate. Either way, no clone use should take place (no cost incurred)or maybe there should be a clone cost incurred?
Please discuss.

I can live with just the social side to stations and no-combat there.
Seems rather daft to fight outside of your ships.
Seems rather like it will be a terrible copy of any FPS that does it perfectly.
Seems awful now I think about it, sooner it was just a social environment.

Lol, seriously I have no idea what that is. But if folks don't want combat in stations that's fine. I just would like to see different points of view and maybe a decent idea (other than mine, lol) will appear!

the reason they wont have pvp in stations is because cloning doesn't work outside of a pod. well thats the background story reasons.

I want to be able to sit down at a booth or something and play quake live, while in EVE, against other EVE pilots. It would be awesome really, don't you think? --------------------------------------------

I imagine that after they get WIS going and we have it for a bit, we might actually get a 'ring' to fight in. It would allow them to work on rudimentary combat, unarmed, in an enclosed environment. And, it would allow business owners just one more area of revenue for their customers.
You could train various fighting styles, some racially unique (khanid kung fu, matari capoeira, caldari kickboxing), and even organize rules and restrictions (fists only, rounds, bets).
It's a business, it's visceral, and due to the fact that it's all 'sanctioned combat', it can happen on peaceful stations AND be non-fatal.

"Wanna fight?!?! Let's take it outside!"
"Sure, I'll get in my ship and wait outside the station for ya."
Random note: Months of being suspended in pod goo into walking inside a station...either the person will either reek of goo or can't even walk because they forgot how to. Obviously what I say isn't always what my alliance thinks. I hate to break it to you, but this is in fact my signature.

Valid feedback, thank you. Can you think of any way around this? Maybe an addition to the backstory? Is combat in stations something you want or don't want?

Non-fatal! Excellent. Side bets on winners too, isk based of course, maybe a tax rate set by station owners?

I really don't care if they keep stations a combat free zone, as long as I can blow up the stations.
Why Outposts continue to remain indestructible is beyond me.

Do you guys not realize that without our pod technology, we are mortal. If there is combat in stations and we die, we are dead forever.
Once we leave our pods we are no longer demi-gods.

I sincerely hope any and all threads wishing for ability to fight in stations are either joking, stoned or drunk or best yet all three.
Seriously, why the hell would you want to turn a space flying game in to smackdown or EA battlefield series?
Give them assault rifles and granades too? Let them form squads and have a commander maybe?
If such a thing was ever implemented, I'm gong to start demanding ski jumping in stations.

The reason to not have this is not only because it doesn't make any sense.
It would NOT be EVE. The clones, and all that stuff could be worked out... But you can't just put this into EVE...

We each define EvE differently. To some, it's a starship and space sim. To others, it's a galaxy simulator.
I personally view it more as the latter, than the former. Sure, it's got starships and space battles, but it's got the potential for a lot more. This is one reason I've always been so interested in dev blogs and postings, in their plans and developements threads. I enjoy supporting a team that looks beyond 'just another spaceship game' and wants to do something HUGE and expansive.
Whether we'll ever see it, I don't know. But that's what EvE is to me. A universe. Full of spaceships, and empires, politics and markets, industry and combat. So far, I've only been able to experience the other half through the chronicles and book. Hopefully one day, I'll be able to play that half, too.
But to me, it'll be more EvE than what we have today, no matter how good the game currently is.
