Guys and Gals.
I have been playing EVE for less than a week, and I have searched the forum for a good setup for a Kestrel. I am a total noob, and all help with regards to fitting this ship for some missions would be greatly appreciated.
If possible, would it be ok if you wrote the name of the units to fit without so many abbreviations? I just dunno what any of them mean!
Hope for some answers soon!

OK, im going to guess ur not going to have high skills, as your relatively new.
First off, 4 x Standard Missile launchers, fitted with different types of light missiles, dont bother with the FoF types yet.
Medium slots - Im guessing you dont have Microwarpdrive skills, so a 1mn Afterburner would be good.
Then maybe fit a Small shield booster (DO NOT use the civilian shield booster)
For the 3rd slot, hmm, not too sure for that, maybe a capacitor battery.
For the bottom slots, go for Overdrives so you can get even more speed.

AngelGrinder: Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for! It just hit me that I maybe should have gotten a different ship altogether for some missions with my very low skill-level... Any thoughts on that?

4x Std Launchers - Bloodclaw 2x 1mn AB 1x Small Shield Booster 2x Nanofiber
This is still abysmally slow, so youll have to warp out if NPCs are shooting missiles at you. Otherwise, stick to 15k at a minimum. Train engineering to 4 and get the high speed menuvering skill asap. -------------------------------------------- CONCORD: Kneecapping Pilots for Misdemeanors Since 2003 |

It depends angelair, Kestrel is quite possible the best frigate in the whole game. But missiles arent that cheap, aspecially if your new. If you want a more rounded and cheap frigate, try the Merlin.
But i wouldnt want to tempt you away from a kestrel :-D

I'd drop in a cap recharger rather then a capacitor battery. I like it better for it to recharge cap faster, so i can continue to use my modules. IMO capacitor batteries are only usefull if you have to little cap to activate all the modules you want to activate at 1 time. For all other purposes i rather have a cap recharger.

I used a Kestral exclusively for level 1 and 2 agent missions after trying out other frigates. The best missile I found for the Kestral was the Bloodclaw.
High: 4 Standard Lauchers Medium: 1 Small Shield Booster 1 Small Capacitor Battery (this is better than rechargers if you do long warp distances in your missions) 1 1MN Afterburner Low: 2 Overdrive Injector I's
I have a named small shield booster, named small battery, and 4 named launchers that I can give you for free. Named items are modified versions of equipment that are better than their base version. Just contact me ingame and I'll hand them off to you.

Wow! Thanx Jacob Vought!! I will certainly take you up on that ingame! I might still need a skill or two before I can use my Kestrel, but you just cut my mining by loads!!!
Thanx again!
AngelAir
PS: Thanx for explaining the named stuff aswell. I didn't know that!

a cap batter can make your recharge faster as well, as its total cap/ recgarge time = cap per sec. im not sure the math on frigs, but i know a battery is better 95% of the time on a crusier, providing you can fit it.

Hi Slots: 4 Malkuth launchers (or better) Med Slots: Med Shield Booster, Dampener, Webber Low: I think i had some co-processors to use all that stuff if you got some room stick a WCS in there.
Worked really good for me for some noob pirating

use bloodclaw light missiles, as you get a bonus to damage for those missiles with the kestrel
do your best to train up to use MWD (Micro Warp Drive)... that is almost certainly the most essential part of fighting in a frigate - speed!
Piracy shall never die. Do not use the 'm-word' in my presence, or i may be forced to reprogram your harvestors to releive you of your limbs. Yarrr >=) |

Boonaki, that ship will be slow as hell with no mwd or ab, and an armor plate. Also, why are you trying to armor tank a ship that has good shields?
If you are using kessy for npcing or agent missions, you need a mwd (micro warp drive) 4 launchers, probly a tech 2 shield boost and cap battery. low slot fit 2 cap relay, but if you are strugling with shield, fit cap flux instead.
If you are using it for pvp, then 4 rocket launchers, mwd, warp scrambler and webber, and 2 cap relays in low, but that might not be fast enough. |
