Bump.
I agree on the filters being bugged, but at least as debilitating for me in terms of probing has been the apparent lack of synchronicity between where the probes appear to be visually and the area of space that they are actually probing.
The thing that made me suspect this is the fact that when I reposition my four probes after an initial scan, the probe status indicators (which tell you if probes are idle, scanning, etc.) no longer line up directly on top of where my probe positioning arrows appear to be on each probe. And so I have noticed that sometimes I will narrow down on a red signature dot, say, by going from 16AU to 8AU scan range on all of my probes, and the signature will disappear completely when I scan at 8AU. Of course, repositioning probes based on where the probe status indicators appear to be does not seem to get me reliable results either. However, given that shortly after the release of Apocrypha I was able to pick up the new probing system and scan down sigs reliably with mediocre skills and ship bonuses not nearly as strong as I have now leaves me scratching my head. Because I've all but given up on probing now with better skills, ship bonuses, and more probing experience. And so I think this calls into question the fundamentals of the probing system since the latest patch (Apocrypha.1?) at an even more basic level than scan filters, as I see it.
While I cannot confirm exactly what is causing the difficulty I am having in terms of getting green dots on what formerly would have been easily scannable sigs, the comment by at least one poster who said that he had to use 6 probes to nail down a signature seems to support my general case about a giant wrench having been thrown into whatever code underlies the probing system.
While I am fortunate enough to run EVE with graphical settings turned up and do get to see the pretty new probing effects; those effects don't do a whole lot of good for a pilot like myself who has recently thrown most all his skill training time at becoming a probing scout. I need the probing system to work, not look pretty.
Please unbreak it, CCP. -SiD |

Please fix probe bubbles on low graphics settings. Most of the time you can't even see the arrows!

I got a green dot too, unfortunately it jumps onto my ship and stays there till I close my scanner

Assuming the amount of 'requests' received from players has any effect on prioritization of bugfixes, count my vote for the probing system... In addition to the other bugs mentioned so far in this thread, enabling/disabling probes also causes much more of a stutter than it did pre-patch. All this probe manipulation lag is making probing a worse chore than it was before all the Sig ID nobrainer stuff.
Another damn near dealbreaker, though already mentioned, is the single-dot-only bug for double-dot results.
Originally by: Sidari Agbhan sometimes I will narrow down on a red signature dot, say, by going from 16AU to 8AU scan range on all of my probes, and the signature will disappear completely when I scan at 8AU.
While I doubt your example is something that's actually happened to you, it does seem to me that CCP increased the deviation of scan results with the patch (grasping at straws to add an illusion of challenge?). This increased deviation does mean that you can easily lose a sig completely especially if jumping over scan range tiers (say from 8AU directly to 2AU) especially with lower skills.

Though I agree that increased scan deviation could account for some lost signals when decreasing scan range (whether an intentional change on CCP's part or not), taken by itself scan deviation does not seem to be a sufficient condition for the scanning difficulties that I've been having. Especially when you consider that, as I said before, I now have better skills, ship scanning bonuses, and more experience than when I first started scanning--which all to some degree compensate for increased scan deviation.
And yes, as a matter of fact, I have lost a signature while taking my four scan probes down only one level of scan range. Doubting the experiences of other pilots who are trying to develop a full picture of a bugged part of the game is not going to get us any closer to a resolution of the problems with the probing system.

I'm bumping this thread, because it has been 5 WEEKS since the patch that made all the probing bugs.
All the issues listed by the OP still have not been fixed!!!
My main concern is still the broken filters.
And still no word or acknowledgment from CCP about any of this.

Or, maybe if we don't complain and pretend the filters are working fine CCP will see a need to improve them and in doing so inadvertently get them working again.
To be honest though, another few weeks and they will be calling probing bugs "intended game mechanics" or in other words, we can't be bothered or don't know how to fix it so we say it's meant to be like that.
IÆm not sceptical, IÆm a realist. After 3 yrs playing on 3 chars I know their tactics:
If they donÆt know what is wrong they will post and say so and never mention it again. If they do know what is wrong they will post and say so and never mention again. If they are around 50% sure what is wrong they will never mention anything about it ever.
First you will know they have acknowledged the bug is when you read about a fix in new patch notes. 72% of the time this fix wonÆt work and if it does the 50% of the time the next patch that comes along will break it.
Or in other words, donÆt hold your breath waiting.

Annoying? Certainly. Gamebreaking? Hotfix? Oh please... despite all those annoying bugs scanning is so easy that a monkey could do it.
Sure, I'd love for them to be fixed, and devs have confirmed they are working on them. But I can wait a patch, or two, or three.

Not an issue it means there are no sigs in that system, it happens just wait and you'll get some, what, did you think WH space was going to be a license to print ISK with constant spawns or something?

+1 for hotfixing
Probing is currently unworkable for me due to the craptastic new probe sphere textures & lighting. Also huge amounts of lag when I initiate scan on probes.

While you've no doubt figured this out by now or stopped caring about this thread, I too had some strange scanning experiences a while back where a signature completely and consistently disappeared when moving from an 8AU tetrahedron to a 4AU one (separate probe sets so the 8AU one never got moved). After WTFing for a moment I realized I had a filter turned on, and switching to unfiltered display stopped the head-scratching.
IIRC the filter was to show ships only, so that signature shouldn't really have shown up at 8AU either. But those things are, I understand, quite bugged still so...
Also, confirming that the probing system received no love whatsoever in the recent patches. Why the **** not? The interface lag is pretty bad overall with just about any action that involves more than two or so probes.
Also that solar system plane 'shadow' has got to go.

Simple fix probe above and below solves that issue, you shouldn't have all the probes on the same plane anyway thats why you get this double hits, i have no issues with the system the wise adapt until its fixed ;)

Anybody having issues with sound when in the map mode? Moving in certain directions causes popping sounds in my headphones, then cut out on both or either side, this can be reset by unchecking then rechecking the audio in the esc seetings menu.

seconded, although your brave using headphones in this situation! I turn the sound down when probing for this reason.

That's not a very good theory considering you get double dot when only three probes detect the signal and three dots in space will always have a common plane. Unless I'm missing what you're trying to say.

The weird part is that it happens much less frequently when scanning in a W System.

Look guys, you gotta word it in a way that gets CCPs attention....
The probe is F**KED. We can't gank and blob like before the patch. How are we supposed to be l33t with these probing bugs? When I want to drop my 30 ship fleet on that Navitas in MY (mine! Mine! What are they doing in MY system? Marsha Marsha Marsha!!!!) I need those combat probes to be simple and easy to use and those filters to work. After all we need to ransom that noob on the trial account to pay for the faction ammo.
So please, CCP, fix it, or else we will notice the efficiency of our "I WIN" buttons has dropped somewhat and we might start using all caps.
(This is not an attack on the OP, by the way, just a little humor. The filters are indeed screwed though).

Necro, to remind CCP this is all still borked.
To sum up this entire thread in layman's terms:
The solar system plane shadow is bull****, the probe warp lag is bull****, and bugged double dot results are, you guessed it, bull****.
Thanks for your time.

Has anyone bothered to hop on the test server and try out the new probing graphics? It seems ccp has pretty much fixed all the complaints or at least to me the current system on the test server is faaar better than the one now on tq.
