Don't launch the drones until you really need them (the NPCs are scrambling you and in your face).
The heavy drones can take out the interceptors, but it seems to take quite a bit of time, I'm thinking going with more medium drones could be more effective (since I can control 10 at once).

I didn't read where anyone had recommended this already, so if it's already recommended sorry... Use a large named smartbomb and be done with it.
If you're NPC'ing you don't need the full firepower of the Apoc to take down the rats, just the full firepower to take down the rats quicker. So use a smartbomb to ensure a long and healthy life for your Apoc. :)

I tried 5 mega pulse and 2 medium pulse or beam (7500 optimal with multis) on an armageddon once and those two small lasers didn't do much damage to interceptors. Conclusion even small guns suck against interceptors.

tackle the npc inty`s the same way you would tackle any player inty.
simply web them and use missiles.
6 mega pulse and 2 seige should be the order of the day for npc`s in an apoch imo

I always use 5 hammerheads 4 heavys for ceptors. Takes em down quick.
