A thorax isn't as versatile as a rupture. In one fit rupture can take on loads of targets.
In the age of AFs and frigs all over eve, rupture fitting a neut is very very useful. A classic thorax fit would die to a lone AB rifter if it hasnt got ecm drones. With ecm drones it still is easy pickings for a few frigs.
Thing with thorax is that it can be set up for gank and still have a nice buffer using a LSE, mwd and scram. Awesome for gangs. 600+ dps with 22k ehp is awesome.
Can field 5 ecm drones which is handy in gangs. But very dicey solo. Sometimes nothing happens and if you fight an opponent worth fighting you die.
Thorax these days can be so easily kited. Run into smth that can kite you, like anything with AB and drones, or a rupture. Therefor its not a bad idea to put an AB on it. Yeah you heard a AB, lets you put out more dps and guarantees you to get in your blaster range in most fights. AB also makes fighting a lone frig a lot easier.

Plated Thoraxes in general aren't bad (even though I prefer gank fits), it's the plated Thoraxes with light guns that really get me going.

Your ECM drones have almost a 50% jam chance against the Rupture, so that should be plenty of tank to keep you alive while your 500 dps rips it apart.
I fly a very similar fit; T2 Web, Ions instead of Neutrons, a Tracking Enhancer instead of the RCU, and 3x hybrid falloff rigs. It loses a little bit of peak DPS but gains some range and tracking so it's easier to deal with smaller/faster targets and you tend to get higher quality hits. It is also very skill intensive (Hybrid Rigging IV, AWU V, etc.) to fit everything.
I doubt I would fit one of these under current market conditions (the rigs were a lot cheaper when I fit mine), but I'll keep flying the one I already have until I lose it.
As for how it would stand up to a Ruppy? With this fit, it would all fall on the ECM drones. If they fail to keep the Ruppy jammed, you simply won't have enough time to chew through his buffer before he kills you. In general, I've found the two ships to be roughly on-par with each other; both can have mean gank fits, tough buffer fits, and they're both very cheap to fit and fun to fly. The Thorax tends to require more attention to actual piloting because of its shorter engagement range so for rookie pilots, I'd say the Rupture is likely the better choice but for more advanced pilots it's purely player preference. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Yes, they are very comparable actually.
2 of the better T1 turret boats out there.

Hardly. With max skills and a somewhat less than realistic 1x Hammerhead II, 4x Hobgoblin II mix, a Rupture's drones will do 111 dps. That's about 120 seconds to kill the Thorax, while the Thorax will rip through even a 30k EHP 1600mm plate Rupture in 60 seconds. If the Rupture gets jammed, the Rupture dies.
There is the matter of getting in range to apply the damage and the matter of 5 medium ECM still not jamming about 50% of times against a Rupture.
The difference between Plated and not Plated setups is that Plated ones help you survive while getting close and do not lose if Vespas happen not to jam on their first cycle.
I really like full gank setups for gangs (despite prefering the Vexor for that role) but I think that the EHP increase from the Plate outweights the DPS decrease from fitting Electrons and no damage mods. Anyway, it is a matter of taste I guess.

Both are very similar cruisers. With regards to the ECM drone comments, if a Rupture lets a Thorax web and scram it (so blasters are doing full damage), then the Thorax should win since it's fighting to it's strengths.
Realistically, the Rupture will keep 15-20km range, hit the Thorax in falloff while taking zero damage itself, and wear through the Thorax's tank. Obviously a 1v1 has many factors involved, but the reason I put the Rupture above the Thorax is because of it's versatility, it can fight up close when it needs the DPS, or it can fight at range where it needs the range. It's one of the few Minmatar ships where the theory of autocannons and falloff works, as you increase ship sizes, falloff is just fail.

IMO, no. I'd go with a set of Ions and an 800 plate.

4x light neutron 1x Small or Med Neut (don't think med fits) 1x MWD 1x Web 1x Scram or disruptor (scram solo disruptor gang) 1x 1600 mm plate 2x EANM 1x DCU
Or you can go gank vexor
4x Heavy Electrons 1x offline something same mids 1x 800mm plate 1x DCU 1x EANM 1x MFS
I usually use the normal 1x Heavy 2x Med 3x Small drone thing however if you know your going to be fighting an inty you can fit warriors etc.
PS: Vexor > thorax by far. --------

its been a while since I fitted a thorax... But the tactit is hug them... MWD in and hold tight.
5X Ion blaster II
MWD SCRAM (close range) WEB
SAR (small armor rep II) EANM II 2X MAG STABS biggest plate tht you have PG (cant remember what I used to use)
5X hammer II
(rigs just make it expensive but if you really need cap then cap recharge rigs will do)
I charge in and tackle. you don't need ECM drones the added DPS will help take targets down. iff someone does jamm you they won't last long with hammer II's on them! also with close range SCRAMZ now switching off MWD's means if you can get in close enough on a ceptor he won't get away.
