Edited by: Maestro Del''Tirith on 28/04/2009 02:59:38 The current version of EMMA remains 1.3, you can find more info here. ===========================================
DOWNLOAD
You can currently download EMMA from Eve Files here.
PURCHASING & TRIAL
EMMA provides a free 15 day trial when you install the software. This allows you to ensure that it works on your system and get a feel for whether it fits your needs. If you feel that it does, the program provides details on how you can purchase a license to continue usage indefinitely. License purchases are perpetual, you will receive updates for free. License costs are currently 100m isk per license.
Your purchase of EMMA provides funds which are then allocated to developers who work to make EMMA better and continue to provide updates for all users of the software. Once you send your funds to the EMMA corporation as described in the software information, we will work to provide you with a license key within 24 hrs. Please be aware that this is not our full time job, and as such license key delivery could take longer in rare cases.
ISSUES & SUPPORT
In order to log issues related to EMMA, you can go to the google code page for EMMA here. You can also discuss issues which you require assistance with in this thread. We hope to add content to the wiki on the google code page in order to assist users with using the application over time.
QUESTIONS? COMMENTS?
Contact Maestro Del'Tirith in game or feel free to comment in this thread. We hope to provide a discussion group through google soon as well. -------------

UPDATES ===========================================
NEW MANAGEMENT
As of the posting of this thread, EMMA is now managed primarily by Maestro Del'Tirith. Ambo, the original author of EMMA, continues to contribute where possible and continues to be part of the project. Unfortunately real life obligations have led to a need to pass primary maintenance responsibilities on to a new individual.
As discussed previously in the Market Discussion forum, EMMA is still planned to be used as the focus of a new IPO within EVE. Details will be provided in the future.
NEW ISSUE TRACKING & REPOSITORY
EMMA previously resided on SourceForge. Unfortunately this is no longer possible, and EMMA has now been moved to Google Code under the MIT License. You can find details of the license on the Google Code project website. The project site is here. Please note that this is 'under construction' and we are still attempting to get some access to the old issues list etc...more details to follow and additional updates as we are able to bring back items like the FAQ etc which were destroyed in the loss of SourceForge access. We also are not currently hosting the download at Google Code - we will be soon, in the meantime please refer to Eve Files.
ROADMAP
EMMA 1.4 - a stability release is planned which will include bug fixes as well as more in depth testing and necessary modifications for better support on Windows Vista. This release will be the continuation of the current branch of EMMA. Current license funds will be allocated to this development and to payments toward the original software creator. IPO - once the stability release is complete, an IPO will be made available for investors via the Market Discussion forum. More details are to be forthcoming. EMMA 1.x - additional stability and small enhancement releases are expected to culminate the 1.x line EMMA 2.0 - current plans are to branch out product functionality along a parallel 2.0 branch, which will include 1.x fixes as well as significant new features both requested by outside investors and in support of expanding the EMMA customer base into industrial avenues, either through the EMMA program itself or as an add-on that provides additional features. More details to follow.
NEED HELP??
As we transition to our new home on Google Code we have unfortunately lost a great deal of investment in threads, FAQ etc on sourceforge. We hope to bring this information back as well as additional details in the coming months, but in the mean time we do have a gap in knowledge due to this unfortunate event. During this time, please feel free to post in this thread with questions/issues or contact Maestro Del'Tirith in game. We will be announcing additional avenues for communication in the coming weeks. -------------

I'm not 100% sure that EMMA is a tool I want to use. I'm not fully clear on what it does. I'm not asking for an explanation because I'm sure over the generous 15-day trial period I'll sort that out.
I do have a question about the 100M ISK to own a license of EMMA. I run 3 accounts on 2 computers. Would I have to pay 100M, 200M (for 2 computers), or 300M (for 3 accounts) to run EMMA with my setup? ***** "It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma." -- Winston Churchill |

Just like to thank Maestro for stepping up and taking over this project. It's great to see it in good hands and I'm sure the software will continue to improve under his guidance.
On the subject of graphs, there has been a third party component in the package for some time that allows graphs to be added without too much difficulty, I just never got around to using it. I'll leave it to Maestro to say if/what/when graphs will happen though. --------------------------------------

I know what you're trying to say.
Well, I see it this way: you pay (100 mil ISK) for the service that they provide a compiled executable.
Whereas the MIT license is applied to the EMMA source (which is available on Google code for everybody) and therefore you could compile your own EMMA from that source, saving you the 100 mil ISK.
Nonetheless this poses a good question: How do all of those OSS licenses deal with game currency? This would make for a nice Ask Slashdot question, I guess. -- EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager |

Actually it's not that simple, currently, you can not use the program over 15 days, as it requires a license. But yes, you can compile the code yourself.
And yes, you could re-write the code to exclude the license stuff /or manually reset the trial counter/, and re-compile it for you. But that requires that you know how to program.

I'm sure the MIT license explicitly grants the user the right to use the software free of charge.

As for the shareware business model, I guess that's because I was getting in-game money from people for it. However, it's well established that legally, all in-game items, cash, etc are the property of the company running the game. Therefore I believe this would be classed as freeware instead of shareware.
My opinion: To pay game currency you have to play the game, to play the game you have to pay a subscription, so it's not free as you have to pay real money to play. So that's against the OSS license. Sourceforge was right to remove the project...
It's better you check a new license type to avoid new problems.

There's no need to change the license. It grants permission to use the software, but it doesn't stipulate that the software must do anything in particular.
The software still works after 15 days when it's not registered: it checks the registration and if that's expired, it shuts down (or whatever), which is exactly what it was designed to do.

Actually someone tried doing so and posted for sale hacked EMMA licenses on this very forum. CCP was kind enough to wipe the post clean when I reported it and Chribba was equally as kind about deleting the post from Eve Search as well. (See what a few emails/reportings can accomplish) I'm not going to get into the validity or applicability of the license(ing) method chosen. Simple enough, Ambo busted his buttocks to put EMMA together so that people can make more isk themselves. Nothing wrong with sharing some of that isk back to him. Only cheap ass whiny *****es are complaining about the licensing and fees. (And I am noting down names for any future reference)

To use Sourceforge you have to have the internet and a computer. Thus the price you pay for your computer and, if applicable, fees paid to your ISP means that Sourceforge is, by extension, not free. Should we have Sourceforge delist itself? (Logical moronacy makes my teeth ache.)

Although many do indeed choose to pay real money for EVE accounts, that doesn't mean it's the only way to activate an account.
A third party transacting with CCP to inject some more game time into the game database does not involve me paying any real money to CCP, and indirect payments don't interfere with free software licensing (e.g., I pay my ISP for internet access, but that doesn't mean I paid for PuTTY).

But you have to agree that the STANDARD way to have ISK is paying a EVE account.
Don't take me wrong, i already have that OSS license problem before, if you release something to public you have to make it full accessible for all that can use your software, i.e all the EVE community.

Shareware are closed-source applications, the owner can do what he wants. In sourceforge EMMA was under GLP, were no restriction was allowed.
I suggest the project managers look about a dual-licensing model Wikipedia. I think that cover the trial/open-source version of EMMA.
I know that conversation is boring, but you have to be careful when chosing what license to use, to avoid future problems. If your license is to "liberal" soon someone can grab your code, change it and resell, all under the law =/ a true intellectual property PVP...

Originally by: Spacemar But you have to agree that the standard way to have ISK is paying a EVE account.
The crux isn't whether or not payment is 'standard', but whether or not it is required; and the bottom line is that it is not required that you pay CCP any real money to keep your EVE account(s) active.
And while the software is probably of most use to those who have EVE accounts, again, it is not a requirement of using the software that you have an account.
Originally by: Spacemar If you release something to public you have to make it full accessible for all that can use your software, i.e all the EVE community.
There are plenty of different definitions of 'releasing something to the public', many of which are not 'anyone can do anything with it with no restrictions'. That's why there are so many different licenses that are considered relatively 'free/libre' or OSI-compliant.
And keep in mind the very nature of licenses: they apply to the the users of the software. To over simplify, the MIT license says that users can do whatever they want with the software... it doesn't require that the author or copyright holder make the software useable (or impose other duties on the author or copyright holder).

You are right about the words, but not their meaning: the terms of the license apply to the licensee, here the user: Originally by: MIT License Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software [...] to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software.
This term in the license means that the user is permitted to use the software. It does not warrant that the user can use the software in particular ways. Such a warranty would be absurd in most software licenses because there are so many ways in which a user might not be able to use the software.
Perhaps this other part of the license will help make this point more clearly: Originally by: MIT License The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and noninfringement.

The software is not free software. It may be open source, but it is not free.
Wordsmith all you want, but there is no way a "free for 15 days, then you have to buy a license!" clause fits in with the MIT license.
The authors should strip the MIT license from their software, show the source code to the world, but continue to hold copyright on the program.

No. It's the one where you send isk to "pay for a license", but instead the author just mocks you for the rest of the evening.

The license has been adjusted. That said, if you have questions or concerns regarding the license I ask that you address them directly to myself in game via the EVE mail system. I will neither respond to nor continue discussion of license concerns or issues in this thread - it is frankly just cluttering up what would otherwise be a valid thread for individuals using or intending to use the software from having a useful resource. Attempted legal discussions by this audience is rather irrelevant, and I will also note that the issue with source forge was due to their own policies and not based on any particulars of the license model itself. Almost all open source licenses provide for individuals, whether the initial author or others, to gain from the sale, support and maintenance of open source software. Open source and free are not the same thing, though it is clear that many individuals seem to confuse the two.
When purchasing the key for the software, you are contributing to the continued development of the project, and I would hope that you find the tool worthy and useful to a degree that encourages you to adhere to that request. I believe this program adds a great deal of value for many members of the EVE community, and I hope to continue the investment that has been made to date in improving this software. I will note that various other tools that in the past have been of great use to EVE players have since faded away to uselessness due to not having a similar isk based model.
Incidentally, I am also open to any individuals who would be interested in assisting with contributions to the software, and look forward to hearing from anyone willing to join the team. -------------

Call for Bugs ====================
Users - I am on the hunt for bugs. As mentioned above, a stability release is planned. Currently on the roadmap is a bug reported within the Google Code project page, extensive Vista testing, work on the Eve 100 errors and the 'continuous updating' phenomenon. Given the loss of our old bug list and a desire to get a good list of issues facing users currently, I am requesting that anybody who happens to know a bug please kindly consider stopping by the Google Code page and entering it. By the end of this week I will be consolidating a list from there which will become the target list planned for the next 1.x maintenance release, prior to the IPO offering.
If you choose not to use the google project page, you may also send me an eve mail in game or to my alternative EMMA char named 'EMMA Sales' and I will add it to the list.
I appreciate the assistance of anybody who can take some time out of their day to log (or, unfortunately, re-log) a bug.

Is that the one that eats my baby, blows my computer up, and then wipes itself clean on my curtains?
No. It's the one where you send isk to "pay for a license", but instead the author just mocks you for the rest of the evening.
Hilarious comment is hilarious.
serious fake edit: do you have any plans to try and free EMMA from the M$ sql server dependency? System.Data.SQLite is pretty stable, if a bit slower on massive queries.
serious fake edit2:
Quote: Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the "Software"), to deal in the Software without restriction, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, and to permit persons to whom the Software is furnished to do so, subject to the following conditions:
Anyone can use the source as they see fit, including downloading it and modifying it to no longer require a license check. However, most people in EVE are lazy ****ers and will happily pay 100M to maintain development.
Look at it this way: if you really want free EMMA and you have the know how then you can have free EMMA. But, if enough people take the software and don't contribute then they'll soon be without software to take.
Personally I was more than a little annoyed when I discovered the "new" fee structure, so I made my own version. If the code had been up on google code at the time I would have happily contributed patches, and I still very well might.

Anything happening with the IPO?
Is it too soon to start posting feature requests on the Google discussion board or is there a better place?
I like the idea of a maintenance release. With all due respect to Ambo , I'm sure any project like this could use a good code clean-up periodically.

At this point there are no plans, however you can certainly put it on the desired feature list...I will be further discussing how new features will be prioritized as part of the IPO announcement and the spin up of 2.0 development. -------------

The IPO is planned to be announced in conjunction with the maintenance/stability release.
It is not too soon to provide suggestions for features, however the preferred method would be by adding it to the Issues section on the google code page as a feature request. New features will probably not be addressed as part of the stability release but will be prioritized for inclusion in the 2.0 version.
We are also still offering the opportunity to provide a 'bounty' if you will to sponsor a feature addition, which might speed up the development of your preferred feature. -------------

Ok. I'll try to have a look through EMMA's database call code one of these evenings and see if there is a particular standalone db that would suit it. SQLite can be slow with extremely large data sets.

Just so you know, one of the biggest hurdles I had when looking for a replacement was that EMMA uses some CLR-based SQL funtions (i.e. SQL functions that are written in C#).
Clearly this is not doable in anything other than MS-SQL so the replacement needs to be able to replicate this functionality with little performance penalty.
These functions are primarily used to allow the passing of arrays of values as parameters. Something that SQL traditionally has problems with.
Performance is also a concern. I had trouble finding anything that fitted the other requirements and could also match SQL Express when it came to very large data sets and complex queries.
Finally, there is the fact that SQL Express integrates completely with Visual Studio. This cuts down development time significantly and makes debugging, etc easier. SQL Lite can integrate as well but only in a limited fashion. --------------------------------------

There was an update to the stored procedure RptGroupCorpSettings with 1.1.1.11, it looks like perhaps this did not occur with your system. On the one hand you could manually update this procedure, but on the other I am concerned that perhaps other updates did not occur accordingly.
Is this an install you have had running ok for awhile and just broke, or is this a new install? Did you get an update recently when starting up and did it by chance error?
The statement which would presumably resolve the issue, if executed against the EMMA database mounted with SQL Management Studio Express, is:
ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.RptGroupCorpSettings @groupIDint, @corpIDint, @charIDint AS SELECT * FROM RptGroupCorps WHERE ReportGroupID = @groupID AND APICorpID = @corpID AND APICharID = @charID
But depending on your particular situation it might be better to either reinstall or we can find a way to trick it into applying updates again if perhaps the update process failed. -------------

I apologise in advance if this is really obvious, but is there a noob's guide to installing EMMA?
I installed v1.3.0.3 together with SQL Server 2005, running on Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
When I try to start the program, I get the generic Windows error 'sqlservr.exe has stopped working', followed by the program's error message: 'EMMA is unable to connect to the database. Please try restarting if the problem persists then more detail can be found in Logging/ExceptionLog.txt'. I don't see the Logging folder within the installation folder.
I have never used SQL before, which does not help.
Any guidance on where I can find the right information would be appreciated. I am a keen trader, a little wet behind the ears still, but I have made a fair bit of isk and I think that this would be very helpful in managing my investments as I become more involved in trading.

Bug:
I have a character who is member of a corporation. I make a buy order for the corporation, with that character
When I download the transactions for the corporation, and for the member, and I do a Income Statement for including the corp and the member, then the result is not accurate. It will show the double amount, what was really spent.

Stability Release
Thanks to some efforts of a particular individuals (Thanks Ambo!) we were able to get our issue log from the sourceforge folks. I have combed through this as well as other recently reported issues (most of which appear to be around usage of the system with Vista) and have come up with the following list of issues. This list of issues will be the target for the stability release, which as mentioned above is planned to occur prior to the IPO. I apologize if your favorite issue is not on it - note that in general new features are not included except where they might dramatically increase stability of the system for certain users. I also don't have every bug/complaint, but I do hope that it is a good representative sample of the issues plaguing the most people.
Please review and feel free to provide comments/questions.
- Better exception logs, including additional information on the stack trace where possible - Eve API 100 error messages: occur intermittantly for various users - Extensive Vista install testing and resolution of ongoing Vista usage issues Also: Non-admin Vista users will have problems. Best way to solve this is to move all database and logging files to a user directory rather than having them in program files. Also: Graphics issues on Vista when Aero style is enabled - Possible infinite loop in order acknowledgement - Changing an order causes the orderID to change. EMMA then displays the original order as "finished" under unacknowledged orders. If you 0.01isk a large number of orders a few times during the day any useful information is swamped by false "completed order" spam. - The NAV report seems to be ignoring the value of items in my corporate deliveries hangers. If I run an Assets report its total value estimate is accurate, but the NAV report is off by roughly the value of assets in my deliveries hanger. - The NAV report is making up some corp sell orders that don't exist. I have 3 or 4 corp orders totalling maybe 100m in product out there but the NAV report estimates the value of my corp sell orders at over 14b! - the Orders view won't show me my corp sell orders if I deselect "Any Owner" and choose my corp - Unacknowledged orders keep coming back. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=936258&page=19#569 - For some people, reprocess values are coming out 100x higher than they should be. It seems likley this is due to a ','/'.' parsing problem. - API update status constantly looping between 'UPDATING' and 'QUEUED' with no actual update. - If you open as one report group, then switch to another report group, the old API update window remains behind the first one and there is no way to close it. We should close the old one when switching report groups. - Buyer and seller character get mixed up when two users in a corp are using different wallets. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=936258&page=25#725 - Corp assets in offices are being recorded as being in a station that is not the correct station. - High CPU useage reported when looking at the orders view - Items that are not reprocessable have thier reprocess values dispalyed in the Assets report. Values should instead be blank. - Add support for API proxies, example: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=668372. Note that some above issues may be related to EVE throwing errors due to other utilities
Most other recent issues appear to be related to one of the above (most often, Vista). There will be no agreed upon time schedules at this point, but if the time stretches out too far there will be sub-releases to provide fixes as quickly as possible. -------------

They did, and I will be sorting through that as well for the 2.0 release but I wanted to focus on the stability release first - it will be my first release fully managing the process so I want to make sure I get it out clean and in good time.
Once the stability release is complete I will be working my way through the feature request list and making a similar post, however how feature requests are prioritized will be a discussion point for the IPO, since one of the goals will be to build to a feature list that will increase investor value by broadening the prospective audience. -------------

If you review the updated screen regarding the license, it indicates that isk should be sent to the EMMA Test Corp and not to Ambo. This corp wallet is accessible by both Ambo and myself, and I have been issuing the licenses which are paid to that wallet. Unfortunately since you sent your isk to Ambo, he will need to log in and verify the payment and issue the key. I will give him a friendly poke (and am certain he reads these threads on occasion regardless) to let him know that you are waiting, but I don't believe you can expect a 24 hour turn around. -------------

IMO it would be a very good idea to move this part of code from the database to LINQ, anyway. We have only one frontend/program accessing the database and the potentially increased performance from using stored procedures is not worth the vendor tie-in IMHO.

Originally by: Snasty I have recently ceased recieving price data in EMMA from either eve-central or eve-metrics. It simply says it cant connect and that feature is disabled until it can.
Ideas?
It does this check on start up, and is most likely caused by something interfering with the program contacting eve metrics and eve central. Some possibilities include being behind a firewall, using a personal firewall program like ZoneAlarm or similar, or just plain old connectivity issues. If you are able to get to the EVE API, then generally you should be able to get to the other two provided they are currently up and running. Trying going to both manually with a web browser to ensure you can get there that way, and make sure you don't have any firewalls running that aren't configured to allow EMMA through. -------------

Did you allow EMMA to do an automatic update first? The automatic update should be modifying this screen, along with other things. -------------

As far as the stored procs, I'd agree that the time saved by them in this application is probably minimal, but also given the amount of work which has gone into building it in the current way leads me to prefer sticking to how it is for now. Perhaps with 2.0 we could consider some architectural changes, but the effort to pull all of those out and rewrite would be somewhat significant.
EDIT - and, lets be honest, this program is written in .Net. Vendor tie-in is a given. One could argue that the whole thing should have been written in Java to be portable, but it wasn't and I don't see it as a major issue at this point. -------------

LINQ itself is pretty close to vendor tie-in right now.
Sure you can use arbitrary ODBC connections but you lose about half the features you'd get with LINQ+MS SQL Server (design time support, various query features aren't implemented for non MS-sql server linq , etc.) LINQ+SQLite is pretty nice, but it's slow.

I'd still consider getting rid of the stored procedures. Unless the number of roundtrips needed to perform some action on the database is significantly high, stored procedures are NEVER a good idea. I most likely wouldn't change the data model to use an ORM though. The current Table Module pattern is sufficient for these kind of data intensive applications.
I'd also clean up the project and the dependencies of classes. EMMA currently contains a lot of circular dependencies. One might consider the number of interfaces (interfaces + abstract classes) to be a sign of this tight coupling: there are only 6 of those defined upon 586 classes.

Edited by: Mel Vin on 07/05/2009 07:19:53 The eve prices service is down - in the next release it will be dropped. It should not impact your other operations.
What IS impacting you are other errors which are being received from the EVE API. The EVE API calls are failing with an error code of '0' (you can see this in your attached exception log). Are you sure that when you setup the user you used a Full license key, not just the limited one? (you have to click an extra button on the screen to get a full instead of a limited key from the eve api web page).
I would also give it a go again and see if it once again fails to contact the EVE api - but the errors being received are from the EVE api itself, not the application
End..
From the google search for other users a little more lazy than I :P
I am using the full api btw and have tried reloading EMMA

Regarding the API errors, I noticed that you get the error, when you try to get many information at once.
Suggested workaround: Put a 5 second delay between the queries, which goes to the API servers. It will take longer to fetch the data, but there will be less error occur.

Unfortunately eve prices has disappeared from the map as far as we can tell. We can only assume that the person running it decided it wasn't really worth the hosting fees anymore. I have pulled it out of our current code build, so you shouldn't receive that error after the next posted update.
I agree on the multiple updates call comment, it seems to run into issues (which, frankly, it shouldn't - that API server should be serving a whole lot more requests than our little app can throw at it). One thing I have found is that if I uncheck all of the API update requests and just check one at a time it sometimes has some better success.
Tonight I'll be running through several install scenarios on a new laptop. I may be posting updates to expand the data in the exception log, remove eve prices, and a few other things sooner rather than later. -------------

Yep, this is what I do as well. This way I rarely get API error. To narrow down the problem, you can initiate multiple API request, as long they don't use the same API key. So if you have 3 accounts, then you can do 3 separate query - each pointing one of your account.

I do not know of any Mac software for doing something like this. I don't have any plans to work on porting to Mac any time soon, for a variety of reasons. It is written in .Net which ties it pretty tightly to Windows to start - in addition EMMA requires MS SQL Server, which ties it even more to Windows. There would need to be a large amount of changes to make it truly portable, most likely a full rewrite. -------------

So now one DT after the patch the api server should be up and running right? A noob character that I use for scouting the market in other regions, he has no money what so ever. Is there anyone else with this problem? It goes from Updating - Overdue - Queued all the time, slowing my computer way down so I have to shut emma down.

Can you please look into the windows application / system events, and look for events which could be related to this problem. Like you try to start emma, then look into the event log to see if there is any error at that time.
Or I would suggest to try it from a different point to resolve this problem: I put together a small doc, how to set up differently the connection: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/hamster/connect_db.pdf It's still in "beta" phase. I plan to proper document how to install the management studio etc.. But you can give a try and set up like this.

I assume you mean the event viewer, in the control panel/administrative tools/event viewer. I checked all the different logs in there and nothing was entered for the time I was attempting to run EMMA.

The MSSQL service must run as a system account or account which has administrative priv.
If you are under Vista, logon as local admin go to control panel, administrative tools, then services. Look for the Microsoft SQL server service and then right click and properties. I think its the third tab which allows you to set which account it can run under.
Same thing for XP
Its odd since normally speaking it always installs itself to run under the system account. |

I set SQL Server(SQLEXPRESS) to run under the ./Administrator account. My problem still persists. Should the other SQL services (SQL Server Active Directory Helper, SQL Server Browser, SQL Server VSS Writer) have any specific settings? I would assume they're not used by EMMA. I installed v1.3.0.3 together with SQL Server 2005, running on Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
When I try to start the program, I get the generic Windows error 'sqlservr.exe has stopped working', followed by the program's error message: 'EMMA is unable to connect to the database. It looks like I have EMMA working.
Solution: I installed the WIndows 7 RC instead of trying to work it with Vista.
Time to look at the tutorial.

You are not the first to have much more success with 7 than with Vista. It is generally a better OS based on my own testing. That said, I have been making a few modifications through Vista testing, mostly around the location of installed media in Vista's structure, and do hope that perhaps things might be a bit more stable once I have get an update out. -------------

Well the ideal way would be to use the management studio to export a backup and then drop/mount and install the backup to the new SQL instance after installing EMMA onto the new computer. See this KB if you have access to the studio
The laymans cheap way of doing it is going to the old computer. Administrative tools, services and stopping the SQL services. Then navigate to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data folder and copy everything there.
Now go to the new computer, administrative tools, services and turn off the SQL services. Assuming everything installed into the same location with the same variables, you could then just copy all those files into the same location C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data.
Restart the services, ideally you should also restart the computer as well, and all should be right as rain.
If you run into problems with the SQL services not starting, then the variables for the SQL instance install were not the same and without access to the Mgt studio, you have quite a bit of command line work ahead of you.
Which I don't mind helping, but its definitely a tl;dr for this space. Contact me in game and I'll forward off the KB articles to you. |

I just installed EMMA along with Microsoft's SQL Server 2005.
I started EMMA and received the error relating to eve-price.com (or or something similar) being unavailable, and clicked through.
I selected two accounts and all six characters from both accounts through the select and manage group tabs.
All six characters are listed in the API update status screen, but the transaction/journal/orders/asset bars just continually flash between queued and sending request. This has been going on for hours.
Any suggestions on what to do check would be appreciated.
Incidentally this is installed on a separate computer (as in, not the one I play eve on). I don't know if this matters.
Incidentally I tried to post this on the Google group and repeatedly received this error:

All six characters are listed in the API update status screen, but the transaction/journal/orders/asset bars just continually flash between queued and sending request. This has been going on for hours.
Any suggestions on what to do check would be appreciated.
Incidentally this is installed on a separate computer (as in, not the one I play eve on). I don't know if this matters.
Incidentally I tried to post this on the Google group and repeatedly received this error:
We were unable to post your message
If you believe this is an error, please contact Google Support.
Not sure what could be going funky with the google group. That said, for the API update thing, it is a known bug that effects some installs but not others. I am able to reproduce it sometimes, but not other times, so I'm still trying to nail it down. That said, one thing that has worked for me in the past is to uncheck all the api updates for everybody. Restart EMMA. Manually check only one box at a time and see if you can get each to update by doing one at a time. -------------

Another work around for the API update problem is to remove the accounts from the group and then add them again making sure to only check one specific item at a time. IE only update the journal..wait and then update the transactions.
After that it works like a dream.
I also can reproduce the problem on all three flavors of OS, so I think its actually something internal.
Nothing in the SQL database spits out anything funky, and using a pix with logging, the program does actually go out and fetch the data... it just gets lost in translation somewhere in the process. |

Well, I finally got the emma and sqlexpress to play nicely. Just installed SQLExpress 2008 and that seems to have resolved my original issue. Now I have a whole other problem.
For some reason when I go to add my other trade characters on the same account, it doesn't display their names in the manage group window. I can still add them to the group and I can still pull down their API information, however when I try to do anything that would use that information I get the follow error:
Problem setting up _____ view.
Here's the top entry on the exception log: 20.05.2009 02:14:11 Critical - EveMarketMonitorApp.Common.EMMAException - Error setting up assets form Inner Exception: Failed to compare two elements in the array. Stack Trace: at System.Collections.Generic.ArraySortHelper`1.Sort(T[] keys, Int32 index, Int32 length, IComparer`1 comparer)
I'm just going to assume the two issues are linked in some way.
Over the past 5 days I've been struggling to get EMMA to work and my trial period has been ticking away steadily. I would like to know it will work before I consider being parted with my 100m, I'm still a relatively small time trader so 100m isn't a small number in my eyes.

Any issues with this and older versions of SQL express, I know the enterprise works with every SQL server on down.
I don't know, as I don't use it myself. But like you, I know that SQL Management 2005 (both normal and Express) do work with older SQL server versions, so 2008 mos likely should do the trick as well.
I'm pretty sure you could also locate a copy of the 2005er Express version, if you digg deep enough through MS's site. -- EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager |

Pardon my lack of experience with the program, I'm still new to it. I read somewhere that you can dump the data of EMMA. I need this information. I moved one of my alts from my secondary account to my primary account. Then I deleted the API information of both accounts. When I loaded up the APIs again the game loaded the old information rather than get the new fact that one of the characters had switched accounts. Try to delete the account information, then close, and start again the application, and then add it again. I hope that will help.
If not, then you will need an sql management studio, and edit some row in the dbo.EveAccounts table.

This has happened to me every time I've added a new character onto an account I already had in EMMA.
What I've always had to do is remove the account from any groups that use it, quit emma, re-add the account to the group, quit, and then relaunch again a couple times. Eventually you will have all characters in the "manage group" screen.

I'm experiencing another issue similiar to the character list not refreshing. I made a lengthy trip last night and used the route generator. I am trying to do the same thing tonight. My problem is that when I tell EMMA to use my selected character's station assets to determine the optimized route that it is picking stations that no longer have resources (I got them last night). Also, it is not showing all of my new station assets after a day's worth of buy orders filling. ***** "It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma." -- Winston Churchill |

Could be that the assets information is not up to date? Maybe the data what is coming from the API is not up to date.

Correct. Assets data can only update once a day, at best. If you have multiple applications that hit the asset information, they'll screw each other over. This is a limitation of the EVE API, in order to negate the performance impact of asset data being pulled from the main eve database. |

Further to my post above, the problem may have something to do with lost/corrupted character information. When I go to Manage Group, one of my characters on each of my two accounts have the same problem which is
(a) no character name (b) corp ID = 0 (c) no corp name
Interestingly, in the EVE API Update window the character pic is shown and API updates are indicated as working normally.
Also, a check using EVEAI shows that the information seems to be coming from the EVE API.

Hi all, looks like things have gone off the rails a bit.
I know Maestro had some RL issues so that's probably the cause of his absence. All the cash is still in the EMMA corp wallet so he certainly hasn't done a runner with it or anything. Even if he had, I'd still have a record of who had sent cash in order to send out licenses.
I'm in the middle of moving house + I'm going to download festival soon (\m/) so don't have much free time right now. If I get a spare few mins then I'll send out those licenses that are pending. Sorry for the delay.
I can't speak for Maestro so on the subject of this possibly being a dead project... I don't know. I'm sure he'll be in touch soon. --------------------------------------

Edited by: charnea on 08/06/2009 17:26:23 I installed it months ago. I am running Vista. I initially had no problems, then after an Emma update it wouldn't work. After about 2 weeks back and forth on the forums it worked again. I used Emma a week ago and it was fine. Now I get the error. This is becoming a 100 million isk headache.

From the first look: it look's like a db corruption. From the second look: try a machine reboot, and then open it again. You can try to check the database from SQL management studio.

It has been 2 1/2 days for me and I have not recieved a key.
It seems response time is slowing down. I don't mind waiting a little longer then 24 hours but it should be posted that it would take longer.
Based on some of the recent posts it doesn't seem as though more then 24 hours is rare, it seems to be a common thing now.

Your problem is a DB corruption - at least it look's like that. Unfortunately I'm not sure how can you fix it. Is it possible that you zip the databases and post it to somewhere, then I could have a look |

Hmmm... I tried to install it via the EMMA install only MSI (after installing SQL Express 2008) but that failed misserably. I then re-installed using the full installer which installs Emma to the C drive as well as the SQL Express 2005 - also to the C drive.
I Guess I'm basically going have to use the SQL tools to export the Emma DB and import it into the SQL Express 2008 instance installed elsewhere and then un-install SQL Express 2005 and try and move EMMA.
I would really like to see a more customizable installer - one that is able to install EMMA alone that requests the Database connection details - perhaps this would also allow for connecting to remote SQL Servers - such as MYSQL or even better a webserver running MYSQL which would really open up some functionality.

I cannot speak to the exact specifics of this, but that error is encountered specifically when the installer does not have permission to update/modify a folder or file it is trying to. What OS are you using? Are you using right click->run as administrator if appropriate? Is this installation non-standard, i.e. folder permissions locked down more tightly for security? |

I think you need to check your key generator or the part of the program that check license key. I've downloaded EMMA on 2 different machines, one with XP and other with Vista. Both doesn't work, you gave me 2 different license key, both doesn't work. So, I don't think the issue is with me, the issue is obviously with the program... |

I understand the manager of the program is having RL issues and there is a back log for sending out keys. I've sent my ISK and at some point hope to get a key. In the mean time since my trial has expired I wanted to know if what i'm seeing is correct. It appears that when I start emma up it accesses the api and downloads the data. Hopefully that's true so that when i do get a key i'll have all the information during this unlicensed time. |

I found an area that could use an improvement.
Cross region trading can be quite profitable, yet I don't see a report to see the results (maybe I am missing something obvious).
Example:
Asset reports shows very useful information but it only gives the choice of one region for all the pricing. It'd be very neat to be able and decide the buy region in an independent way off the sell region.
Second thing, the item detail=>transactions does not work like I think it should.
I setup date = May 1 2009 to today, yet the program shows my buyer character holding 18 items I already sold days ago and 1 item in the seller character instead of 18. Notice all the characters are active, working, all "green status" in the API update status and this item got sold around Jun 10.

Wouldn't call it a "scam" in the traditional sense. I would call it a dead project that has been abandoned by the developer and all new players SHOULD NOT SEND ISK TO EMMA. YOU WILL NOT GET A LICENSE!
There is also the issue of the EMMA license not correctly working and allowing those that purchased the product to use it. At this point just download the program and give it to your friendly computer programing buddy to hack and disable the license key. Its only fair to those that paid for the program to use it and since its a dead project, no sense in wasting a good source code. |

You are correct. One suggestion to ensure it pulls in all the necessary data is to have it only update one thing at a time - i.e. update journal, then transactions, then assets etc when doing large batches. -------------

Agreed on the item detail screen - it is not properly adjusting based on the date field.

Prykt has a valid key, which doesn't work. I suspect there is some problem when reading the key info from the registry... I will post a work-around here, once we have nailed nown the issue.

Yes - I'm sorry about that. I wasn't aware that Ambo's original registration eve-mail remained in my mailbox when I contacted you. Edited by: Vaerah Vahrokha on 17/06/2009 12:30:03 If the key is stored in the registry, you could have what I call "registry pie". That is, you installed the software as an user that now can't read the registry keys or you installed it as admin and now use it as normal user so on.
I had some massive screwups by Visual Studio at this (had to wait for a VS2008 patch to fix it). You can check if you have the problem by opening the culprit registry key with Regedit: if it says "access denied" the software won't recognize your registration. To unlock the registry key can be as nice as punching your eye with a cutlass.
Before you ask me what registry key to open etc. etc. I tell you that I don't know and it's probably managed by the closed source Enforcer.DLL, so you have to ask to the Makers. |

2 issues I got:
1) Calculating the NAV, on a Dual Core 2.6GHz with 4G RAM takes me like 15 minutes despite the minimal hard disk activity.
2) I noticed a 400M drop in my NAV. I checked and double checked until I recalled I bought 2 BPOs for an alt. Oddly enough, the value of the two BPOs seems not taken in account and thus it's like my 400M just vanished. Did I understand something wrong? |

There has been some issues of price retrieval from online, this could be your delay with NAV reports as well. |

The error you are getting is not from EMMA, but from Windows. Try this: first, ensure that the user you are logged in as has admin privileges (required because you are starting a SQL instance with the app). Second, go to the EMMA program directory itself (probably in program files), right click the executable and 'Run as administrator'.
If you still hit a wall, see if you can snag the log files and post them somewhere to link (they are in the log folder under the EMMA structure) -------------

I auto-updated today after being informed of an available update... and have not been able to use EMMA since. It throws an exception on login.
Quote: ===================================================================================== EXCEPTION REPORT ===================================================================================== 6/21/2009 2:57:41 PM Error - EveMarketMonitorApp.Common.EMMAException - Problem loading main form. (I redacted the publickeytoken just in case, if you need that let me know and i'll post it as well)
Any info on this? What can I do?

I've looked around and I havent found the error text from the ExceptionLog anywhere on the internet. It seems that I cannot retrieve my portrait from the web cache, and it prevents me from going further with setting up my character data. Any ideas? The error is as follows:

This is extremely easy to fix, if someone who has access to commit code to the repository can include a failover image if the server returns 403, 404, e.t.c; this should go away :). -----

Hi there. Quick question (haven't read the whole thread, so pardon me if it's already been answered)
-I signed up at SourceForge and went to the link you folks have provided, but I only get the message "Permission Denied Access to this page is restricted (either to project members or to project administrators) and you do not meet the requirements to access this page. Please contact the administrator of this project for further assistance. "
How do I get permission? Along the same lines, are you even using that anymore? I notice that the links in this thread go to google discussions.
- I sent cash in (to the correct corp with the correct founder and tracker) about a day and a half ago. The EMMA ap itself says that I should get a key in a few hours. In this thread you say that I should get a key within 24 hours, and that's fine, but it's been more than that (which is also fine). I'd just like to make sure that you have gotten the ISk and that, sooner or later, I'll get my activation key.
Thanks very much. Awesome ap and I'd recommend it to everybody without reservation. Once I get my key, at least.

Whoops, sorry, sent that as the wrong character. When you check your records, you should find that this is the char who sent you the ISK and who should get the license.

After the keys were delayed for weeks, the app is going to be free. All unreceived keys will be reinbursed. The sourceforge proyect was banned (I think because free licence and payed app). Now it is hosted at google code. |

Ah, cool cool. When should the reimbursements start coming? And, when will there be a new version of EMMA out that doesn't require a key? I've got 8 days left on my trial, and the reason I bought a key was so that I could keep using it when that trial ran out as it's an amazingly useful tool when I've got 273 orders open. Or should I just uninstall and reinstall or something until a new version comes out?

Free version will be available by the end of the week. Refunds will be sent whenever I or Ambo hop on to do so but I can guarantee it is coming.
There is another thread on EMMA I'll be posting in with an update on the free version status. -------------

iam wondering if and when the bug (or do i oversee something) will be fixed in the transactions window:
i mark multiple lines, i get the sum, ok..
but when i have lets say 2m spend, and 5m income, then it shows up as 7M instead as 3M.
VERY annoying, and makes it pretty much useless for me.

You are referring to the grid calculator which doesn't properly subtract negative items in a selection area?

For some reason, the new downloadable patch totally kills my EMMA client. It throws exceptions all over the place, no longer lets me log in/use the account I have set up, and so on.
1) Should I post on the google forums about this, or evemail someone, or what? I've only been able to keep using EMMA by refusing reinstalling it and refusing the update every time I start it up again. 2) As my trial for the program runs out in a few days, I'd really, really, really like to keep using it. IF you're still doing reimbursements and making a free client, can I get a key anyways so I can continue to use the old client until the bugs get worked out of the old one? Along the same lines, I'm still not seeing any reimbursement for the 100 mil applied back to my account. is that just delayed? |

I should... I'm downloading and re-installing now just to make sure.
However, I still don't have the 100 mil activation key fee back. If there's some sort of problem that's cool or if you've decided to charge again, that's cool too. It's just that I have my trade alt to pay for GTC's right now and if I need to withdraw some cash from the market to help cover my accounts when they come due in the next few days, I'd like to know. Again, my apologies if you're already on top of this, I don't mean to nag you.

Pretty sure the latest update ****ed my EMMA up. On the item report, equipment that I have contracted from my main and sold are listed as negative income. Needless to say, that is impossible since I never paid anything for them.
Did you implement opportunity cost into EMMA? I admit, I did spend a fair amount of time hauling it.

Hello!
I'm having troble after the last update. EMMA updated, but when starting produced a couple of errors and couldn't autolog into my account; the program loaded though. I quit and tried to restart, but since that first start EMMA stops working before it's fully loaded (seemingly during fetching outpost data?). I tried a reinstall, but get the same issues. The logs after the reinstall are in the following post. Any ideas? Oh and I use vista. |

If it helps someone to help me I have narrowed down my issue slightly.
The application bombs out when going off to fetch the API details, any of them, on any character. If I unselect the various API sections so that it doesnÆt try to fetch them it will sit there happily all day, as soon as I try to get so much as one, out it goes with the error detailed above.
On a side note, I havenÆt kept up with this thread, so who ôownsö EMMA these days, who is the big EMMA cheese? This is the first time I have had to dig three pages deep to find the EMMA thread - is it on it's last legs?

Emma got some massive issue with NAV calculation.
I audited Glas Mir, EMMA was returning me 4B assets on Glas Mir, almost zero on his alt and a total NAV of 10B.
In reality - and jEvEAssets, EVEMeep and the other listed programs listed in my auction confirmed that - Glas Mir had 6B assets, his alt more 6B and the total NAV is about 16B.
It's a fairly discrepant NAV report, isn't it? - Auditing and consulting

It's a fairly discrepant NAV report, isn't it?
its a problem with fetching the correct prices. If you manually pull from the EMMA DB using excel and use the prices you think are correct it calcs spot on.

I've sent out refunds for those who have sent isk after the deadline.
For the prices, I'd think it's just calculating asset values in different ways. You can use the tool in settings-> item values -> value calc details. This will show step-by-step how a value for a specific item is calculated. --------------------------------------

OK, I can see why LP achieved goods would be flagged as zero (undefined, really) value.
But why some common goods are also set to zero? A problem with the eve-central updates? But I tried 4-5 times and they still stayed at 0. - Auditing and consulting

I sent in 100 mil on 6/21/09. I was told on the 23rd that since I never received a key and EMMA was going to free-to-use I'd be getting a refund. Is this no longer the case?

There was a bit more text I cut and pasted the whole thing to the google page though.
Oddly enough, I reinstalled against just now and it loads just fine as long as I don't have the update installed. If I do, it fails to work. I already upgraded to the service pack 1 of net framework 3.5. Do I have to upgrade something else?

Hah... all of a sudden on the (seventh?) re-install it's started working again with the update.
However, now when I run an item report it can no longer calculate my profit correctly. I set the start date back months, before I started trading anything, but it still lists numerous items I bought/sold on the market as simply sold but never bought.
Ah well.
Still useful for the transactions page out of game. Hopefully if folks ever revisit the program it'd be real nice to get things fixed, as this really is an awesome utility when it works properly.

I think this comes from the API, as that will list your last 1000 transactions. Give it time, then it will be OK. :)

Ah, thanks very much. As of right now EMMA is at least usable if I don't download the updates. The API data may just've gotten swamped with recent 1-item transactions a I've been using those a lot. Hrmmm... thanks though. I'm going to format my machine soonish anyways maybe a fresh install of everything will help.

I recently reinstalled EMMA on Vista 64 and I'm getting:

I am using the full access key, I even regenerated it and I'm still getting the same error.

Is there a new download out with the free prog as I was using it, got to 3 days trail left updated it so it no longer had a key/used a key.
The day after it would not load kept crashing, the windows emma has stopped working etc. So I had to reinstall, got it working now but all it says on load up is Trail over you need a key.
So I need a new download or a key to get it running. So how do I get it to work again as you cant run the updater out of the prog?
Many thanks

In theory the auto updater should download it. So try that first.
If it does not do, then do the following: download: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Ambo/EveMarketMonitorApp.exe.zip Extract the zip, and rename the file to: EveMarketMonitorApp.exe.config
Then download: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Ambo/EveMarketMonitorApp.zip Extract the zip, and rename the file to EveMarketMonitorApp.exe
Overwrite both file with the one what you have in the EMMA directory, then you are ready to use.

You can't use the built-in windows zipping since the files are compressed with the c# implementation of gzip. Maybe winrar or somthing would read them though? --------------------------------------

I have unzipped them replaced them but as soon as you run emma it brings up microsoft windows, EMMA has stopped working, it brings it up in seconds of clicking. I put the old emma.exe in and it loads up to the please log in screen and just has the license box in the middle saying trail expired.
Edit. Forgot to add I am using IZarc for unzipping and also winrar.
Any other suggestions?

I was looking into the Item report, and I see some strange behavior:
- Report is good, when I bough and sell item - like tritanium - Report shows no profit - not even negative - on products what I just bought - like rig components - Report shows negative Profit with item, which I manufacture myself and sell it. - like rigs.
I thinks item which where bought but not sold should be marked as negative profit, and product where you just sell them - without buying them - should show as positive profit.
Thoughts?

Today i started to experiment with EMMA, after a little while it ran without problems.
It is a great tool, and big cheers to Ambo. And to Maestro. Awesome work! =)
The only problem I have is that just a very small quantity of my assets are shown -> Assets Report. And also I¦d like to see all my assets and item-worth. Second thing is, not all items are shown.
Doesn¦t the programm find everything automaticly?
I didn¦t read the whole Threads. Hope someone knows this problem.

i recently reset my api key but i can't for the life of me figure out how to change it in emma. Every search i do turns up an answer along the lines of "file->change api infomation". Trouble is that i don't really have "file" anywere. I tried going into the manage group to change it but when i double click the account and copy the new key into the field and press ok, nothings changed.
So how the heck do i change my api infomation?

Probably it's a program bug. There is a way to change the API key, but it's not for the standard users.
You would need to have SQL Management studio installed You need to open the emma database. Go to Tables -> dbo.EveAccounts table Edit and there you can directly edit the API key.

I am really liking EMMA, but...my major bugbear is that the reprocessing sheet is out of date to my assets.
For example, today I moved from Amarr to Sobaseki, just before downtime.
No items show as at Sobaseki. I know this is due to it updating Assets once a day, but is there a way to force it to update assets?
I looked through, and probably missed the big sign saying "UPDATE HERE!" |

You can download the assets once a day. And that is a limitation by CCP. You could change the data and download it multiple times, but all the results would be the same, as it is cached on CCP API server.
And I can confirm that the report is not working well when, there is a contraband in the journal. I think the contraband line is missing on the report page, so it throws an error. |

I recently centralized everything into corp wallets and corp buy/sell orders.
Now EMMA does not notify me when corp buy/sell orders are completed.
Not only that, but when it updates information I get an error for corp orders, its red and when I mouse over it it says "The Eve API reports that this data has already been retrieved, no update has occurred."
When I look at my NAV it says that I have 160 billion isk in corp sell orders, which is off and distorts my NAV by over 100bil.
Am I doing something wrong? And if so, how can I fix this?
Thanks, GC

I have a small problem again, I can run EMMA and get updates for Transaction, Orders and Assets. But When the Journal updates it crashes and brings up microsoft windows, EMMA has stopped responding. It runs fine until the journal update.( turned off at the moment)
Any ideas how to fix it as I can't use the income statment now and its been like this for about 10 days now. The last journal date is the 20th.
I am using Vista and there has been a few windows updates in the last 10 days, don't know if thats affected EMMA in any way.
Many thanks.

The lack of support for EMMA is unacceptable. I have paid the 25m isk to have my corporate data added to Eve-Commander. Flawless performance so far, Woddel was helpful and efficient and the increased reliability (its hosted on a server instead of my personal computer), as well as the continued updates/features is a major turning point. You don't need to purchase the product. It's free now, just you need to apply the latest "beta" update.

I can for the first time ever lol its put it where it should be in vista. But this was before I remembered to change the link to the database's (removed and reinstalled) eg. compname/data name etc ..... I have tryed several times again to update the journal but it crashes and nothing goes into the log in \EMMA\Logging\ExceptionLog.txt.
Someone did say on vista it goes into a random folder somewhere but I have not found it as of yet. Even after the reinstall it crashes. Plus I had to set the comp clock back due to the old install file still has the key needed and I don't know a work around to get another 15 days trail to update it lol

As the program is now free here is a workaround for the 15 day trial Open regedit: Go to HKEY_Local_machine \ Software \ EMMA Enforcer
And delete the following keys: InstallDate InstallKey
Then you can start the program and get another 15 day. ---- I looked your exeption log, and it look's like that is not from now. It's an older entry.

Hi all,
Since it appears that the update to remove the key requirement also causes various other problems and since it seems no one is going to be looking at those problems, I've uploaded the official key gen program to eve-files. (http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Ambo/EMMA_Official_Key_Gen.zip)
It's pretty rough and is provided as is with no support or guarantee not to break your machine or whatever.
To use it, simply enter a name in the 'char name' field. Select the 'Gen full key' option and then click 'Gen Key'. Viola, the key to match the char name will appear. Simply copy this into EMMA.
Just ignore the other options, they are for diagnostics and testing.
I'm sorry that support has vanished. I didn't want it to be this way. Perhaps I'll pick it up again in the future but in the meantime, the source is still available to all through google code and anyone who wants to make some changes, feel free to give me a shout.

On the second try after reinstalling it I skipped the part where it wants to update the program and kept it at v1.3.0.3 and that worked for me. Hopefully it will for you to. Just you need to use the correct SQL server for it. (64 bit)

Try to delete the full account, and add it again from scratch.

Whenever I want to add a character that wasn't present on an account when I originally created the group in EMMA I have to actually remove the account from the EMMA group then quit emma, and then re-add the API info to the group, and finally restart EMMA again. This has worked a handful of times for me.

Correct there is no data loss from this operation as I described it.
I haven't replaced one character with another before but I'm fairly optimistic it'll just make a new spot in the database for the new guy and reconnect with the pre-existing characters normally.

Thanks, it's been removed again though . I guess Chribba has eve-files removing anything it finds with 'keygen' in the name( keygens aren't usually used for legitimate purposes ) . I know the site virus scans etc, so it's probably that.

If you buy/sell the new sized rigs then you'll get problems using EMMA (when the API is back up). Happily, CCP has already provided the new datadump.
Instructions on how to apply this data are available here.
I'm pretty busy over the weekend but I'll hopefully get time to upload an updated copy of the database to the patch system next week. If anyone does the update themselves and wouldn't mind sending me their 'EveData.mdf' and 'EveData_log.ldf' files then that would speed things up. (This database does not contain any personal transaction/asset/anything else data, just the general eve stuff.) --------------------------------------

I have done the update. However the static datadump does not contain the tables: dbo.SolarSystemDistances dbo.SolarSystemJumps
So I copied it from the old emma data file. And in the static dump the table: dob.staStation only contains ~5100 entries. So it is missing all player made outposts. So that table is from the old dump as well.
It took me 1.5 hour to create it, but here it is: http://rapidshare.com/files/270625267/EveData.zip.html

We have a problem..
Lost Hamster's database file version was for SQL 2008 so I tried to create a 2005 version myself. Unfortunatley, CCP have upgraded to SQL 2008 and that's the format the datadump now comes in.
We have three options:
1) I do nothing, you can manually update your database using the previously posted instructions or use Lost Hamster's version but you will need to install SQL express 2008.
2) I upload the 2008 version to the patch system. Anyone downloading the update that does not have SQL Express 2008 installed will suddenly not be able to use the program.
3) I figure out how to convert from a 2008 DB backup to 2005. I'm pretty sure it would be possible. Just very time consuming, probably have to create scripts for each table or somthing.
Given the options available and my own lack of free time, I think I'm going to have to leave things as they are.
If anyone has any better ideas, please let me know. --------------------------------------

Open SQL Server management Studio 2008 Look for the database, right click - Options Select Compatibility level to SQL Server 2005 (90) Press OK, and now the DB is on SQL 2005 level.
I have change the compatibility level, and uploaded it again: http://rapidshare.com/files/271236520/Evedata_SQL2005.ZIP.html

Edited by: Creepin on 04/09/2009 17:14:19 I've stumbled upon this thread and decided this program to be interesting enough to give it a try. So I downloaded & installed EMMA (which, in turn, downloaded & installed some SQL mumbo-jumbo in the process) and run it...
Here's what I see first upon launching EMMA:
Here's what I get when trying to create an account:
Here's what I get when trying to activate "Check/Repair" option (russian sentence at the end of an error message means "Can't find this file"):
And finally here's what comes up when I'm trying to close EMMA. Btw, this error message coming out again and again making closing EMMA by conventional means impossible:
Does it makes any sence to you and, most importantly, could I fix it somehow to finally use your app?

Yes. However do that after a computer restart. If you have already run EMMA, then the SQL server will lock the files, and you can not replace them. So it's better to do a reboot, replace the file, and start EMMA.

Actually, it looks pretty scary when pasted directly into the post, breaking right border & stuff. Any chance I could mail this .txt to you somehow? Perhaps you could give me e-mail via eve-mail if it won't be much of a bother :)
Upd: I re-formatted some of the exceptionlog.txt content for it to better fit this forum. Here it is:

Just to be sure, do I have to apply Ambo's instructions with Lost Hamsters latest link containing evedata.mdf (and .log), or do I just copy the files to EMMA's data folder?

You can just replace your 'evedata' files with the ones provided by lost hamster. (I recommend making a backup first just in case) --------------------------------------

Hi all,
I've recently installed EMMA. Great tool! Thanks for devoting so much time and effort in it.
Unfortunately I have one issue which I'm lost in solving by myself. It's regarding the Journal update from the API. It never succeeds :(
The exception log shows: 10-9-2009 23:28:19 Critical - EveMarketMonitorApp.Common.EMMADataException - The journal entries you are adding appear to be for a generation after the latest one in the EMMA database. You will be unable to update from the EveAPI until the EMMA database is updated with newer journal generation data.
I've manually downloaded a XML of the journal and tried to import it using the import function. Same error here.
I did update the database according to Lost Hamsters advice and dump (thanks for that Lost!).
My version = 1.3.0.6, the last one AFAIK.
If anyone has a solution for this issue, It's greatly appreciated!
Kind Regards,
Gromm

That's a pretty tough one to resolve without a very good understanding of what you're doing I'm afraid.
If you've got SQL management studio then you can checkout the Journal Generations table, that may have something that throws some light on the issue. --------------------------------------

I've been testdriving EMMA for about a week and i like it :)
Only problem i have is that i get an error for the Journal API update. Is this a known issue? The result is that i can't run an income report (or, it runs but it doesnt show anything).

Can you specify the error? I suggest, that you remove all check box, and then update all entries, one by one, when one finished, then start the next. The API server doesn't like it when you update to many things at once.

I assume clixoras is getting the same error as gromm stargazer. I'm having the same problem ever since I started using EMMA again about three weeks ago. The exception log shows:
Quote: 15-9-2009 22:15:31 Critical - EveMarketMonitorApp.Common.EMMADataException - The journal entries you are adding appear to be for a generation after the latest one in the EMMA database. You will be unable to update from the EveAPI until the EMMA database is updated with newer journal generation data.
I have also updated to Lost Hamster's latest database and EMMA is updated to the latest version (1.3.0.6).

Unfortunately this didn't work. Even with the other items unchecked i'm getting an error.
I can't copy paste but it's like: "The journal entries that you are adding appear to be for a generation after the lastest one in the EMMA database. You will be unable to update from the eveAPI until the Emma database is updated with newer journal generation data"
I can't update because i need to update first ?? ;)
For what it's worth, there seem to be an eventvwr error also, maybe it's connected? "The configuration of the AdminConnection\TCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid."
(although that doesn't explain why the other items ARE updated)
edit:
I've been looking at the SQL server configuration tool and under Protocols for SQLEXPRESS i'm getting the following:
Shared Memory - enebled Named Pipes - disabled TCP/IP - disabled (!!) VIA - disabled

Ambo, please correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding of this issue.
So I was looking into this journal error a bit further and it has to with the way the Eve API implements the journal. Every journal transaction has a refId, which was implemented as an int datatype, which can count up to about 2 billion. Eve has had way more than 2 billion journal transactions at this point, so every time they hit the limit, the developers roll back the ids to 0 and start with a new generation. Unfortunately there's nothing in the API to indicate which generation they're currently on, so EMMA has to keep track of it/guess at it by itself.
As far as I can tell, EMMA can actually handle such a generation rollover by itself, as long as the database is being updated with journal data somewhere around the rollover. Now that another one has come and gone it's impossible for EMMA to guess at it. However, for people that did have EMMA running during the rollover, it should have stored the rollover date in their EMMA database. If Lost Hamster or anyone else could take a look at their journalGenerations table in "EMMA database.mdf" I think ID number 3 should be the one we need. Then we can manually add it in.
Some threads I read regarding the issue:
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=936369 http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=764508

I checked, and I have 3 row there: ID Start Date End Date Offset LargersID 0 2000-01-01 00:00:00.000 2007-09-01 00:00:00.000 0 1000000000 1 2007-12-01 00:00:00.000 2008-11-27 09:53:00.000 1085796677 1887206022 2 2008-11-29 01:00:00.000 2009-09-16 08:29:24.000 2591720933 1642241558

This worked! Dont forget to restart the services though!
Next item on the agenda is that the API connection works, however no data is shown in 'income report' and 'journal'.

lol, thanks.
You are correct about the probable cause of the issue. I've buggered up my EMMA installationabout a week ago by changing my API key (I swear that used to work fine). Anyway, I'll be having a look at it at some point this week. --------------------------------------

Ah. Interesting. So it seems that the rollover hasn't happened. But the End Date and LargestID are different on your 3rd entry. I just updated my database to your values and now it's working fine. There's still some kind of bug in the code, but at least this works for now.

Hi Ambo,
Didn't check since my last post on the journal (refID) matter, good to see it's still hot :) I've listed my values below:
01-1-2000 0:00:001-9-2007 0:00:000 1000000000 11-12-2007 0:00:0027-11-2008 9:53:0010857966771887206022 229-11-2008 1:00:0030-11-2008 1:00:002591720933368341979
The errors on updates actually began right after installation for me... never had a good journal update ever.
So, I've also updated to Lost hamsters values, and voila ... it works!
Hopefully this gives you a lead on the fix.
Cheers,
Gromm

Excellent, that explains this then.
Essentially, EMMA is being overly cautious. The last data it knows about is from so long ago that it dosn't want to try and work out which generation of IDs it's dealing with and end up causing a mess.
I'll update the database in the installer package and see what I can do to tweak the logic of the routine. --------------------------------------

I've released a beta update 1.3.1.0, this has the following changes:
- Database updated with new items (thanks to Lost Hamster for that)
- Fix for a couple of issues that occur when API key is regenerated. User can now update the key in the manage accounts screen after it's been regenerated.
- Tweaked the journal generations code to get around the issue that people have been experiencing
I'll be putting a new core installer up as well that will install version 3.5 of the .NET framework instead of 2.0. --------------------------------------

Everything works fine for me and most other people so reproducing it in an evironment that I can debug is not an option. You guys can't give me enough information to narrow the problem down at all either. Consequently, there's not a whole lot I can do.

Same here. Install, start, ask for update, and just at the end of the update process : "Problem copying file 'EveData.mdf". Process cannot acces fil C:/ ... another process is already accessing it." Then EMMA tries to restart but systematically shut down with a windows error.
And if I refuse to update, I can enter my API key but then it says my trial has expired... (I first installed it yeasterday).

Seriously, a hundred million isk for this new version? It doesn't even start for me out of the box (initial download and 14 day trial). At least the old one worked when you installed it for a while before crapping out all over the place. I don't see why your charging if I can't even get thing running right away. Anyone know how I would go about getting the app devs some tech feedback on here about my failed start up? I would like to preview the 14 day trial at least, but I don't even get any failure log or anything, it just stops working right off.

Readme states:
Quote:
If you get an error similar to, "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance." then try the following:
1. Stop the SQL EXPRESS service (through control panel -> administrative tools -> services) 2. Delete the folder 'C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data' (On XP this folder is - 'c:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS') 3. Restart the service.
By the way, this is my signature.

Updater is working fine for me on Win 7. You do always have to run as admin but you've already done that by the sounds of it..
Anything in Logging/ExceptionLog.txt? --------------------------------------

For both of you: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/hamster/connect_db.pdf
With this modification you can avoid the instance problem what both of you experience. The only disadvantage is, that you need to do the db update manually, if there is one.

I tried using it but I get some error I need to have clr enabled :/
Seems this has something to do with the SQL Server configuration but I don't know how to access the query command line.
Also I get an error when it tried to copy the UDF file when updating (File in use or something), and after that EMMA crashes immediately after opening it.
Any idea how to fix these ?

I bought quite a few things off contracts that I now sell on the market. Is there a way for me enter the price at which they were bought somewhere so I can calculate my profits?

The CLR problem is fixed automatically. A bug in the x64 version of SQL means that you'll need to restart the machine after running EMMA for the change to stick though.
The other one, not sure. Are you still getting the problem? Is there anything in logging/exceptionlog.txt?

Yes, go into 'contracts', change the dropdown at the top to 'item exchange' (or something like that) and use the 'create new contract' button.
This will allow you to create the contract as it was in-game.
EMMA will automatically create fake transaction record(s) from this contract and these will then be used in the usual way by reports, etc.

I am getting that same issue where when trying to update it crashes and says data file in use by the SQL.
I tried to disable the SQL server till after the update but then it wont update at all....
EMMA won't let you manual update so it's a catch 22.
I am running windows 7 64bit and all ways run EMMA as admin I got it to work once but after installing a new hard drive and having to reformat my computer I get this error.

I'm getting the same error as Business bunny.
The error message says
Cannot copy Filepath://EveData.mdf as it is in use by another program.
It then crashes and won't work.
