Assume pilot A undocks and when they are 'vulnerable', they are set upon by an aggressing ship; can pilot A shoot back and still dock almost immediately? or does pilot A have to be non-aggressive for 30 seconds before they can dock even though they didn't start the fight?

Only those who haven't made an offensive action can dock/gate.
So to directly answer your question, pilot A would not be able to dock immediately after firing.

Also, the docking/gate jumping timer for aggression (whether initiated or in self defense) is 1 minute. |

No. The timer starts for pilot a as soon as he shoots and/or activates a mod such as web, scram, ecm on target. Also watch your drones auto aggro.

Edited by: Rajere on 30/04/2009 14:49:24 Aggression counter is 60 seconds and applies to anyone who aggresses another player for any reason. The 60 second timer begins as soon as all aggressive actions end and all aggressive modules finish their cycle. Thus if you point, web, start shooting, and then activate a Heavy Neut on your target, then decide you need to deaggro, your 60 second timer begins 24 seconds later when your Heavy Neut deactivates, not when you hit the key to make it go red/deactivating.

Also note that drones count towards aggression timer. You might have stopped cycling your weapons and spammed the dock button, but if your drones are still engaging, you're still engaging. I've seen quite a few people forget that.
On a similar note, if you log off in space after having been shot at (whether or not you fired back doesn't matter) it will take 15 minutes for your ship to despawn instead of the standard 30 seconds. Same with your pod. Most people will go to great lengths to probe out logoffskies. The timer is returned to 30 seconds if you jump into another system and logoff there.

Edited by: Rajere on 30/04/2009 19:15:41 That timer is also 60 seconds. And you only clear aggro if you jump into a system where you did not have aggro in the previous 15min, otherwise when you logoff you'll stay in space for another 15min.
