For quite a while now I've been getting a crash when exiting EVE (not every time though) with a message with the option about sending a crash report to MS or not.
So 2 questions:
1: Do you (sometimes) see this message when quitting EVE ?
2: Do you have an SLI nVidia system ?
A bit more detail:
a) I see it when hitting CTRL-Q and the X in windowed mode, I can't remember seeing it in FS mode.
b) Not sure if it is SLI related because my laptop is also SLI.
The main reason I'm asking is, if this is causing problems on exiting the game, is/could it be causing problems (memory loss, lag, or something more nasty) in game before I decide to quit ?
P.S. This could easily be going on for about a year, not sure what patch this started at TBH. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Happens to me on XP. Drops a dumprep.exe process that eats up an entire core. Can really gum up the works if anything else intensive is running.

I been having issues with the game quitting properly for ages i think way back to the trinity deployment. so much so than i never use the in game quit options since it can lock up or crash the client half the time but tab out and manually end the process.
and i do not use sli xp32 bit, but do have nvidia card.
nothing that ever bothered me so much i had to sniff out the problem. |

Generally this is a threading issue. Part of the app gets the message to close and starts to dispose of resources like windows, menus, dialogs. The other part of the app hasn't figured out yet that the app is closing.
Tries to access something that has been disposed of. Null pointer. Bam, crash and dump.

Crashes 75% of the time on 4 different computers, 2 windows xp home, 1 windows xp mce, 1 vista premium 32bit.
9800GT, 2600XT, 9500GT and 8200m all crash
Eve also appears to have a tricky memory leak again like we saw at the end of last year, but it is selective. Doesnt happen all the time, only when doing certain in game activities.

2. I got a Nvidia card, but its not set up in SLI. Although I could if I wanted to I guess..

Edited by: Reven Cordelle on 29/04/2009 08:04:18 Yeah I get that. Its Vista being an ass.
I get it on my Korg KP3 as well, except in that instance - it reports the program not responding when the damn program is searching for a USB Device!
Also Source Engine based games will do it - HL2, GMod, L4D and CS-S.
Basically, Vista is impatient and hates it whenever anything is closed before it thinks it should be. For all intents and purposes, Vista is telling you to play more EVE.
Edit - Oh, and the card I'm running is an BFG 8800GTX OC2. (Just one.)

I get this about 40-50% of the time. Sometimes it just crashes neatly & sends a dump report to Microsoft to be bucketed & ignored; other times it manages to screw everything up so badly I have to restart. I'm currently leaning towards blaming EVE's (indirect) use of Nvidia drivers as it seems to do such a great job of screwing up any further graphics display post-crash.
I've had it on and off for at least six months, but it's become progressively worse. Whether that's Nvidia's drivers have become progressively worse, or EVE's client has, is hard to tell.

Well I looked closely into this and have reported this to the devs. They sent me a reply back that they are currently fixing this problem. That was over 1 month ago (When you hit ctrl-q and you would get an error in the python25.dll and core dump would happen.) Now, I am getting the crash dump on the blue.dll.

I've started to get this problem as well, though in my case it seems to be more severe.
I've got Win XP 64 , running 2 clients and one with sound. I've got a media player playing music in the background and when I try to close the game I get a blue screen and then the computer reboots.
First time I noticed something wrong was when I logged in a few days ago to change skill and the game just crashed and wouldn't close no matter what. Had to reboot the computer then. First time I didn't have any music playing in the BG.

Today eve just decided to switch from full screen to windowed mode on its own. After trying to change back to FS and being refused i restarted my PC and tried to relog with no success. Eve just won't start from the exe. The game will now only open using the safe mode. Any ideas whats at work here? Or is it time to reinstall eve for the 4th time this year and hope for the best.

I actually get (50% of the crashes) a "Pure function called" Visual C++ -esque message.
Sounds like a (nVidia only?) video driver deep issue, lasting since a long time. There apparently comes some issue at releasing all the resources before the game shuts down.
Quote:

No, I had it since the "deluxe client" exists. Never got it in the older client.
PS: don't expect a solution too soon, I had those multithread software hells at shutting down without problems since I started writing those apps. It takes AGES to spot where the issue comes from, and often you only get it on some computer setups (and NEVER in the one you use to develop and debug).

This happends to me too, but I don't know if it's the same effect because mine almost always crashes out with a call to a pure virtual function, which is what used to happen to my code the same way whenever I forgot to define a destructor on a class that inherits from a pure virtual parent.
Given the conditions when it does happen (for me normally only after having had eve running a few hours) I'd guess that it's a memory cleanup object that's falling over when it drops out of scope, but these things are never as simple as that, so it's certainly not that easy

Had this more when I had the XP's DEP set to all applications. Now with DEP setting for "only critical" (or similar) I get these log-off crashes less. Go figure, haven't lost settings yet in the crash, could not care less. (yes, might leave my XP open to some buffer overrun exploit/trojan, but it's software based check anyways since my CPU sucks ****s)
I recall some talks in IRC that this might be just visual effect of some mem-leak in EVE client again... CBA tbh (it's ages old "tradition based" info that EVE client is weird-to-crap). -- "Entering MH means instant death. It's worse than 0.0. Even the asteroids shoot back." - Alex Harumichi [GRD]

I use 2 clients (Full screen) on SLI systeem (Nvidia 9800GX2) and since Apocrypha Patch was rolled out on TQ both EvE clients crashes on exit generating a crash report for M$, while before Apocrypha i never expierenced that issue..
It doesnt crash though when i run just one client, only with 2.. I have tried starting 2 times the same client, and with 2 seperate clients running the same time, but in each case, as soon i have 2 clients open, it crashes on exit..
So i just went back too running the same client twice, and live with the crashing on exit, it seems no data is destroyed or anything, its just a tat annoying too see happen each time..

i am getting this now, but was hopeful that it had been sorted after the 1.2.3 patch, I think it was. I then didn't have the problem until after the subsequent patches which apparenrly rolled back some of the other erroneous changes. In the relatively short time between these patches, maybe i was just lucky and didnt get any such crashes or maybe CCP had fixed the problem and then reversed it back out again. Who knows?. It would be nice for someone from CCP to clear this up however.

1. Yes 2. Yes, but SLI not enabled
a) Yes, I see it more often when I use Ctrl-Q. b) My laptop is non-SLI and I can't recall ever seeing it there.

After last update, my client crashed (within 15 mins) after starting, it restarted automatically, and i could play normally.... but when i wanted to stop playing, i did get above error when closing the EVE-client....... (and YES, i do know there are some DUTCH words in there, but you got to blame Microsoft fot that ;-)

1: yes, I experience this quite a lot, eve causes heavy performance load for few seconds (very annoying) and then crashes to the report window.
2: no SLI, a GTX 285 card in my PC, dont think its a gpu related problem.
I'm runnung multiple eve clients in windowed mode.

Hope they figure out the problem soon because it freezes my entire PC and it's a little hard to get the ExeFile.exe terminated when everything including your mouse lags. --------------------------------------------- Xeross' ventures into EVE | TheElitist.net |

1) Yes. 2) No, I have an ATI card and run Win7 64bit.
Recently the crash even fubar'd my configuration (client crashed every time I tried to start it). Running in safe mode fixed it.
