Amarr towers come in a close 2nd, however attackers know to tank against EM and Thermal.
This is exactly correct and can't be quoted enough, except you probably meant Phased Plasma and EMP (I think). Titanium Sabot does only Exp and Kin damage, and both lower than the higher damage, lower range Fusion. Phased Plasma is the only projectile ammo that does Thermal. EMP does a combination of EM, Exp, and Kin.
Large guns can really hurt Battleships, but if you're trying to defend against non-capital ships, you're generally better off with mediums. For the OP, note that Large guns use XL ammo, Medium guns use Large ammo, and Small guns use Medium. Amarr towers and their beams/pulses have a small advantage - once loaded with a crystal it will never burn out. You can even load damaged faction crystals into Pulse/Beam POS guns and they will still fire forever.
When it comes to faction anything, always get a faction Tower before investing in modules. Faction towers have more grid/cpu (for more modules) and consume less fuel. Also for the OP, understand that any module using CPU offlines when a tower is put into reinforced mode. For that reason, some racial Towers and weapon types are preferred over others when a moon is in danger of being attacked, despite whatever else you might be using the tower for (research labs, moon mining and reactions, refining, etc).
Finally, understand the benefits to putting up a tower in .3 and lower space - no faction standing and no charters required.
edit: One final protip. If you ever put up a research lab in a non-station system, it will eventually be attacked. Never, ever, put a BPO into a research module. Put your tower in a station system and use the remote research skill so the BPO never leaves the station. |
