Hey, ive been playing eve since the beta stage in 2003, and yet still there is no option to customise the paint scheme of your ship. Even is you could select from a pre-determined pallete of colours it would make a change from the same drab colour sets. I believe there is a large following of players who share the same reasoning on this matter. So my question is: Why is it not built into the game and when will it be an option?
Please reply GM's =]

Paintjobs do exist, but only exist on certain ships. Sometimes the paint changes the slot layout/fitting. Sometimes the paint changes the bonuses or adds new ones.
It's called t2/faction :D

There is a reason that custom paint jobs do not exist in eve. This idea has been discussed at least one every two weeks, it is also in the list of commonly proposed idea's thread at the top of this very forum.
player made ship skins Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

Choice:
1. Custom paint jobs and more lag than you ever dreamt could be possible 2. No custom paint jobs and the same amount of lag that we have now (not so bad considering 1800 pilots can duke it out in one system without disconnect)
I pick option 2. Now you pick one

It would only be viable if you could only view your own skins, as it would not add any lag (being local client only). For custom skins on other players, the server would have to check each time if a custom skin has been used and if so, has to load that skin for lord knows where. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

It wouldn't add any lag at all. It's like a byte or less added to the info about the ship.

Indeed, up to 256 possible color presets to be applied client-side all sent in a single byte-per-ship.
Server load be damned, just youd have to be allowed to disable it, as the color scheme gets MUCH more complicated client-side.

*sigh* yes it will. I can't link the site right now because I'm at work, but it was raised during one of the CSM meetings, and CCP's response was basically that the server wouldn't be able to handle it, and it would make it harder to distinguish between t1/t2/faction versions of ships.

you do not have to introduce complete paintowrk, choosing from a set of colour for 3 different ares of the ship (e.g. frontal, tail, left-top wingie bit) would make the load waay less, as it would be chosen from pre-defined colours and to pre-defined parts of the ship, so for server it would be: Option 1, option2, option 3, and like 50 options or so. Hm... |
