Just installed eve under wine and i thought I'd share the how to with you guys. Please note that i use a geforce mobile gfx card and the evil freedom hating drivers, installed via the evil driver handler :)
1) Get the eve installer, the netinstaller didn't work for me, so i suggest downloading from here: EVE Offline Installer
2) Get wine. type this in terminal: sudo apt-get install wine I use the beta version from the wine repos (for info on how to add them see WineHQ)
3) Install corefonts, use winetricks to install them :) Type in terminal: wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks sh winetricks corefonts
4) Wait for the installer to finish downloading, if you have a good connection, just skip to step 5
5) Right click on the downloaded installer and chose "Open with Wine Program Loader". Install like you would normally on windows.
6) EVE should start once the installer finishes
7) To launch EVE use the command wine "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE/eve.exe"

Worked like a charm. But then as I wanted to start eve the second time it said:
There was an error launching the application. Details: Failed to change to directory '/home/zxays/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/temp/nsu8b76.tmp' (No such file or directory)
Any suggestions? thx in advance

I have the same problem as Zxays, and I am also hoping for a little help on the subject. |

I had the same problem, looked around and found that running wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/eve.exe in the termanl ran eve fine, cept now I need to figure out the font thing >_<

sounds like there is an issue with the directory your starting wine in.
try:
wine "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
that should avoid the file not found issue.

my problem is a window size in eve.
i use just 2560x1024, but i need 1280x1024. i do not change this in eve d@g panel... if i use virtual desktop in wine, the eve resolution is good, but i dont move my application to another monitor. :) |

I had this same problem. I assumed the simple solution:
Find the 'temp' directory under windows in WINE, add the "nsu8b76.tmp' folder (or whatever the name is for you in particular, mine was different)
That solved the problem for me, guess it just didn't know how to create the folder that it needed. |

Edited by: taekwandokid on 19/06/2009 03:54:57 I can get it started but the EULA agreement shows no text and cant scroll down. So can't go any further.
**EDIT** I just imported my settings from my vista client and got passed the EULA, now my keyboard doesn't work. Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Navigator |

Too bad winetricks is not in the repos ;) Review my guide for tips about the eula thing, and stay away from wine 1.1.25, use an older version to avoid crashes.
