I recently lost a very valuable ship (in rather silly circumstances you can read about in the newbie Q&A) and it got me thinking - what happens to the soul of a ship after it is destroyed? Does it get reincarnated through a complex process of salvaging and reprocessing or does it head on to some kind of afterlife?
Discuss.

Nothing. It's leftover code that, if it's not salvaged and looted by some player, get's cleared with server restart.

It gets reincarnated as a Veldspar asteroid which Chribba will then mercilessly mine into nonexistence.

Oh dear... yesterday a newbie asked in german help channel, where he could find this Veldspar Heavens system. He was aiming for some Q20 agent there and was unhappy with not finding it on the starmap

Well if it's salvaged then the salvage goes to making rigs which then go into another ship so a piece of your old ship lives on in the universe.
Ship reincarnation?

Actually, yes, in a sense. When ever something is destroyed in eve, it isn't actually destroyed, but moved to a special container/hanger. This allows the GMs to easily give you back your stuff if you successfully petition a loss. It gets cleaned out i.e. properly deleted from the game regularly though.

ooo, good question.
the soul is a bit harvested from the database, therefore it gets reincarnated into a different object. it might be a ship, it might be fragments of a few ships, or it might even by items that players own.
but it definitely comes back to the game world. --

I, for one, am a firm believer that all lost ships pull a Pkunk and reincarnate as smacktalkers in some random system.
