Imperium Technologies turns 6 years old today.
I've talked about different things in these B-day threads. Our past, what we've done, what we're doing, how much we like our members and they like blah blah blah. /yawn
This year is different, and IT has changed a lot. For one, we hemmoraged members over the second half of this past year. Old vet burn out, apathy, emorage, leadership disappearing off the face of the earth, complete lack of direction; you know, the usual stuff. For us it's stuff we've been able to hold off on fully experiencing for the previous 5 and a half years.
Of course, being the cunning elite charismatic veteran that I am, I've come up with a grand solution. I'm ****ing off for the next half year or so. I feel secure in the knowledge that I am embarking on the route less travelled... Hello Kitty hear I come.
IT isn't closing its doors, we still have two semi-active directors and an officer or two left. The old farts like to log in once in a while to change skills, and there is some fresh blood in the ranks.
/rant
Eve is an awesome game. The skill system is one of the primary facets of what attracted Eve to me, it encompasses the value that you don't have to grind, you don't have to micromanage it. You set it up, and can continue to do other unrelated things in Eve.
Things haven't remained that way, which is great, because who wants to play in a world that stagnates. Unfortunately, too often the direction of Eve is akin to that of POS... who in their right ****ing mind wants to be responsible for putting up POS and fueling them??? Preach to the masses brother!
Solution - Create a POS template fitting screen, much like ship fitting. Player with role creates a POS layout from the comfort of station showing what modules go where. Save template. Members fly to moon, put up tower. Tower finishes anchoring. Dump all the damn modules into the tower. Press button to use template. Go away do other things.
- POS in station system where you have an office. Dump a years worth of fuel in corp hanger, automated fueling. Interbus. You pay more for the privilege. Go away do other things. CEO and directors don't get spammed with messages about low fuel for a year.
Result - I fire the POS director and let him play Eve instead.
Next; the pre-nerfs.
CCP, things are allowed to be awesome. If too many people use one ship and setup that you think you must now nerf, you are mistaken. What is lacking is more awesome in other ships. Boost other ships to compensate. Things are even allowed to be uber... T3, is not quite uber. Try projected bonuses for the 5th set.
Gallente Electronic Subsystem: +20% drone bandwidth bonus to gang members within 10km / per level. ^UBER^
Make things uber enough, and Oveur will finally get subsystem targetting and damage. To help this goal, create the sub-cap uber battleship. 16 high slots, 8 medium, 8 low. T1. Uses gates, tons of armor and shield, no siege, maybe even make it jump capable. Slow to align, built to embrace the crushing line of fleet warfare. Between the dread and BS for size. Uses large guns, tracks like a BS. Do it. Why? Because it's uber.
Wormhole space - let people moon mine, let people farm. People want to set up shop, quit screwing around with what is a great thing and let us populate it. Quit making things so damn complicated to get a leg up in null sec space.
Corp management. Station management. Alliance management. POS management. FIX IT! 6 years! Get it done. Do an in depth study of what players want, interview alliance leaders, station owners, CEO's who know what the hell they are doing. Then give them the tools they've been asking for. /end rant.
Ok, so my immediate plan is to go play L4D. What I really want is a pvp game, preferably involving metal objects that have been sharpened and designed for the penetration of innards. 1st person is a bonus. Anyone have suggestions?

Happy 6th IT. I was there for a (very) short while in my early days, but yall were for sure a stand up crew. Hope you find what you are looking for out there. Most of your suggestions were pretty spot on, I agree.

I still have my hopes pinned on Jumpgate Evolution. I played the orginal Jumpgate for 2 yrs before EVE came along and then Jumpgate stagnated so EVE got my attention for 6 yrs. Now it feels EVE has stagnated so I'm hoping the new Jumpgate will take over if they ever release it. I so miss being able to fly a ship 1st person ****pit style with better physics. I mean flying a ship where you can crash into things if you pilot poorly and not just bounce off of everything like EVE does. I so miss the dogfights in asteroid belts and around stations.

It's been a while Avernus, nice to see IT still alive even if you're not all that active.
Will always have fond memories of ****ing about in an interceptor in Querious in early 2006 shooting at FIX while I was still a newbee, always fun to see the people who were there are still playing (sorta~).
Happy Birthday

My god. 6 years. Many said that my liver wouldn't last this long!
Thats a long damn time for any hobby and practially a lifetime in a game. Theres always been something undefinable about IT that has captured my imagination and my loyalty. A certain aura that somehow can transform fellow game players across the country and across the globe into fast and loyal friends.
We've had truly amazing and wonderful things happen inside our august organization. We've had folks looking for a change get a job hookup from corp members. Some have flown over oceans to hang out together. We've given each other support and concern over personal tragedies. And we've crowed in delight at each others triumphs. I believe we've had at least 3 children conceived and born as IT'ers. Hell, a couple folks have even found love!
And thats just a short list.
IT means many things to me. 6 years ago, I wouldn't have believed that a gaming group could invoke a fierce loyalty and passion in me. Teach me so much about people. And introduce me to so many wonderful and interesting people from all over the world. My first time on Ventrilo, I remember meeting Tommi and learning all about the Cod Wars between Finland and Britan. From there it's been a whirlwind world tour of humanity. An Aussie taught me to drink wine (Hi Moz!) An Irishman taught me that drunk is the best way to pvp (Hi Numbers!) And a Swede taught me...well that Swedes are friggin cool peeps (lub you Murkey!). Where else can one make friends all over the globe?
During these years, IT herself has about seen it all. Station owners, formentors of rebellion, founding member of a very old alliance, further formenting of rebellion , station builders. Lost a region 3 times, fallen to a sparse handful of members, been led by a wild perverse alcoholic, been a center of controversy. We've risen and fallen only to rise again. And having been a part of the vast majority of it all, it gives me a calmer and more philosophical perspective on Eve.
Theres nothing new under the stars in Eve. All of this has happened before. It will happen again. North vs South wars, alliance director hax, the rise and fall of mouthbreathing "just for lulz" alliances. All just part of the cycle of Eve.
And I'm the luckiest player in the game, to have a home like IT in which to observe and participate in that dance. Each member, each friend, a welcome and beloved companion on the journey to find a different route to the same ultimate conclusion. In the end, Eve and IT aren't about ships, or isk or 0.0 space held. It's about the people you meet along the journey. And the good times that you'll always share.
Beardy
