The general consensus, at least in the circles I've been in, goes something like this: Eve Online does not have a learning curve...it has a learning CLIFF.
The kiddies today don't have the patience to learn something this complicated. To most of the players I associate with, whom I would consider on the mature end of the New Eden spectrum, like this game BECAUSE it's hard to learn.

You won't find many mature players while in a noob-corp, spamming scam contracts in high-sec, and smack-talking in local.
That sort of behavior is frowned upon by the "mature" player-base.
Hell, even some of the more mature scammers will look down on that.

In my experiance, most people in EVE are adults who interact with other people like fatuous children. An idea which is certainly reinforced by the majority of the content of these forums.
But that seems to be a broader cultural issue these days.

Mature might not be the right word.. but eve has a lot of old players. That being said most of us are douchebags like myself.

Nope don't like them either. But I cope with them by deleting my junk box every so often. She, comprehension works wonders which you need to work on a bit. Its a bit immature if you whine that some guy in Nigeria didn't give you $10,000,000 when all he needed was your bank account and ID # to deposit.

I actually looked this up. I most certainly am not related to these goons in anyway, I would never pay $10 to join a forum when there are plenty I could join for free and what is more it is perfectly possible to be an annoying troll (if thats what you are implying) without belonging to the goon club.
Regardless, I'm not an alt. This is my main, I've been playing for about 2 weeks and I can see coming to the forums to ask where the mature players are was a bad idea.
