Our corp has been in a raging argument over 'best battleship' for the last three days. One side of the house is leaning towards the Scorpian and its EIGHT medium slots allowing for maximum flexibility in resists and random neat stuff. While the other side of the house says more then 4-5 slots is a waste anyways.
One of the big deciding factors imo is powergrid and cpu. IF you can actually keep 6 big fat ass guns loaded on your ship and not have to give up to many low slots to power/run them then some of the bigger gun boats seem like they offer more return.

i don't really think you can name a best ship, for any class besides indy. it all depends on how you want to fight. if you don't have the drones skill trained then you don't want to get a megathron. you just have to find a ship that fits your skill set the best.

I would say Apocalypse, too. Medium slots are overrated IMO, since you need powergrind and CPU to fill them, which in turn gives you less for weapons.
I would have rather more lower than medium slots.

Even the apocalypse's 8 turrets will be useless if it can't lock onto a scorpion, simple as that.
And can the 2 extra turrets keep up with a tempest or raven launching 2 cruise missiles or 2 torpedoes every 8seconds. Main Everlasting Vendetta Veteran Member of the Stain Alliance |

missles on a battleship isn't a viable option at this point.
Tachyons will hit you at 40-50k easily for 160+

What do yall think of the Tempest class? It seems to be balanced stat and slot wise between all the other ships.
As for Tachyon weaps, they'll get nerfed soon, or missiles will get beefed up, only a matter of time. |

In response to wether or not they will beef up missiles or nerf tacyons is a question of simply what the dev's want, quicker or slower combat?

Wouldn't slower combat be better? I think its far to fast atm. Slower combat would allow time to flesh out differing tactics which would make the experience more enjoyable.

Problem with jamming is that it takes 4 ecms to jam a battleship and only 1 ecm to prevent it from being jammed. Think about how useful that is.

the problem with missles are their low range.
as long as a target is stationary you have the full 35k range on CMs and Torps. when your target moves away the range is lowered drastically.
a torp follows a target that moves with 200m/sec (not really hard to acive in a BS). the toprs speed is 300m/sec. so the torp is only 100m/s faster than the target and its effective range is reduced to 12km (120sec fly time * 100m/sec). since most of the BS guns have at least 40k range you will be toast before you can use your missles and then you still have a travel time of 2 minutes.

"Best" is based on preference, but "Best for the Money" is much easier to determine: Armageddon. The stats on that bird are as good or better than many of the various races' primary battleships.
We are looking to do an Armageddon BP Partnership soon if any of you are interested.

"Cruise missles? Torpedos? Pff..

Not if you literally drop them almost on top of the ship from a Caracal running MWDs during a strafing run.....
Going to take one hell of a turret tracking speed to hit that Caracal going 700-1400%+ normal speed with out completely missing or taking a severe dmg penalty.
Already works like a charm when attacking cruisers.

Uhm, smartbombs are 360 degrees of area of effect damage out to a certain range. No turret tracking speed required.
However, from what I recall reading, Torps can take a bit of punishment, requiring multiple smartbomb blasts to detonate them. Which would support your current strategy and require upping the ante to several smartbombs perhaps to act as counter.

"Uhm, smartbombs are 360 degrees of area of effect damage out to a certain range. No turret tracking speed required."
SBs are close range. It is the turret weapons you need to worry about upon approach - this is what I am referring to. With 2 MWDs your going so fast there is little time for your target to react. Especially in a chaotic battle.
You release torps near detonation proximity and keep on microwarping past. The target can go ahead and SB all they want. They will still be in the blast radius of the 4-5 torps if detonated by the SB and take the damage.
It only takes 3 explosive torps in one hit to rip appart some of the toughest cruisers in this manner with their shields down unless they using a braced deflection shield or the like.
Cruise missles are way better on cruisers then torps however.
The only problem I have with using torps is they instantly pod the person when their ship blows up. And it is strange - to date I have not seen a single SB used against any missle attack given.

Missles which are killed before they detonate on their own do NOT do any damage.
It happend several times that my smartbomb took out pirate missles practically centimetres from my hull and I never got any damage from them.

The armaggedon is too fragile with its 3 med slots.
The best overall battleship would stand between the Apocalypse and the Scorpion. Raw offence and defence, respectively.
The Dominix is arguably a very good ship for the cost as well, its a very versatile ship.

Set up a time and place where we can meet and I will demonstrate how you will still take damage while using your SB to destroy torpedos. You simply destroyed them far enough away to where you were not in the damage sphere of that missle/cruise/torpedo.
Or just come by IPAY-2.

8 medium slots on a Scorpion...
Who can justify getting this ship based on all those medium slots - If we consider looking at battleships for their offensive capabilities, what use would they be over say the 4 on the Tempest?
Can you justify getting the Scorpion over the Tempest, sacrificing 2 guns, to have the ability to go on the defensive well?

Ok, the scorp is the best ship for b-ship vs crusier operations. It is able to warp scramble and web 4 crusiers. Or scramble 8 if you don't wanna web them. Once they have been webed and scrambled the ships can pummle them with the heavys and watch the die.
Also you have to consider its electronic warfare capabilitys. The Scorp is the b-ship counterpart ot the blackbird. With the right equipment not no ship in eve is capable of jamming it and no ship in eve is capable of not being jammed by it. (excepted another scop of course)
Its one of the best ships. It depends what you need though. If you are planning to suprise attack and kill some ppl then go with the scorp. If you are planning to use your b-ship as a defensive platform then you should consider an Amarr b-ship.

Let's see, with six multispectrals running you are at -95.3344% damage. Although for nerf resistance's sake I'll have to go with the Tempest.

been looking over the stats, apoc in brute force, scorpion for the tacticions and finally the Dominix for cost.
Personally having an apoc for my main character, then will do a BYOM + cash for a dominix.

None of Torpedos have 4+ km range detonation and dammage , but simple medium SB have and lagre have even more range i think like 5km, tarpedo on other hand have like 500-1km proximity (if i correct) so if you have medium SB on your shipe or even 2 small once you will be fine to destroy like 90-95% torpedos before they even get in range to do some damamge to you. + if you not alone you always have one person free of tagets locks , so he/she can shoot all approcahing Missles/tarpedos with simple rail gun( even Punisher can do this :) ).

If you want a pure-evil-nutter-bastard firepower ship the Apocalypse has the most damage output capacity against a defenceless target.
And then a Tempest will sidle up to it and flat out own the damned thing.
The Tempest is the fastest lvl 2 battleship out there and the 5 mid slots own all the other top end BSs apart from maybe the Raven, which isn't a viable fighting ship anyway. 1-on-1 a Tempest could simply scramble any other battleship, either target or warp or both, and then bloww it away with it's +5% proj damage modifier. In a group battle situation the extra slot affords it yet another multispectral shield hardener which means it takes 40% less damage than its peers. In short, it's a beast but it will only be as effective as its pilot. Load it out well and you can destroy everything that stands in your way. Load it out badly and it's the flying piece of junk it looks like.
And yes, we do sell them *8)
