This accomplishes the same end result, but lets anyone who is interested in EVE's history go back and read them. You know, just like how all the old videos are still available to watch, even if they are no longer relevant.
Echoing this. It's better to have a reference to the old inaccurate documents than simply lose them. You never know what neat ideas might evolve out of them that can be fitted into canon.
I also enjoy reading many of the stories there, even if they might not be 'canon'. A separate section would be better than worrying about what stories I missed and will now never be able to read. ---

Whoever controls the past controls the future. We are at war with Eastasia. We have always been at war with Eastasia.
Sorry, just had to say it.
Awesome work. Must've been tough.

Stairway to Heaven is another chronicle that looks like it could do with a rewrite or a straight chop.
I for one am happy to see this effort, though. Retcon doesn't have to be a bad thing, as evidenced by Blizzard's near-brutalization of their own lore. Sometimes this stuff has just been allowed to become too large, contradicting and tangled to be able to effectively move forward with it. |

Edited by: Eventy One on 20/05/2009 02:21:00 With respect to the argument, obsolete chronicles should not simply be purged, people have alluded to modifications or a separate section, rather than simple deletions.
Can I also suggest using the tactic of explaining inconsistencies rather than getting rid of them altogether. Our own histories (in RL) have inconsistencies. Attributing the inconsistencies that arise from particularly difficult lore could be a simple as:
"... took place in the year 12314, according to the Gallente historian Irk, however Gallente historians are notoriously known for inaccuracies in their work, and for modifying history . Most competant historians (such as Caldari ones) agree the date was more likely 12354."
Etc.
Only the substantive bits of lore need absolute resolution. If the difficult bit of inconsistency isn't instrumental in the overal EVE story, and can be explained away in terms of other factors, such as the info was seen to be correct at the time, but additional scholarship has proven it incorrect, problems can be somewhat tolerated.
I don't think the goal should be as comprehensive as removing all problems from EVE lore. |

Well, its sad to remove these history, put them in a special section.
And for the The Tierijev Pocket, i think is easier to change an in-game sovreignty than a book novel. Even if you have to create an alternate route for the gallente militia.
Or atleast, add a correction in the eve site about the novel. "We are sorry people Tierijev Pocket was not the place they think to attack in the novel but..."

Verge Vendors in-game description will also need to be changed:
Originally by: Verge Vendor While otherwise unnotable, Verge Vendor is the home to one of the most infamous experiments of all time. Tierijev is found in Verge Vendor, the site of a doomed cooperative between the Caldari State and the Gallente Federation. While the ripples of Tierijev have long since settled, Verge Vendor still evokes memories of cooperation for the sake of scientific progress in many. As such, the number of young, idealistic scientists found in the region is disproportionately higher than found in other larger, richer areas. Many dream of the day the hope of Tierijev set won't be a simple one-off, but rather a blueprint for greater scientific harmony throughout the galaxy.

Edited by: Kaito Haakkainen on 29/05/2009 12:02:55 Still going with the Guristas faction being only 10 years old? They seem remarkably well connected, organized, and equipped for it, but it's not impossible.
There's also no mention of the severe memory loss and reduced motor functions Fatal received from his podding during the Crielere event, which may be worth mentioning in the "Fatal and The rabbit" chronicle.
(The Rabbit would probably like his capital "R" back too. )
[EDIT: It's also been more than a "few months" since the ambassadors kidnapping.]

Ruthless
Riddled with issues, most of which are ranted about elsewhere, though I did spot some time-traveling Protein Delicacies on Ralirashi's shirt others have missed, existing there several years before their creation by SuVee. Stranger still they're on a Caldari shirt, and the news surrounding the scandal stated there was no demand for the product within the State.

ok, here's some questions about some inconsistencies and gaps: - how did they find out about the other solar systems? Sometimes it mentions stargate creation, othertimes that there are ancient stargates already there. - how did the Amarr find the Minmatar empire? you only mention the creation of one stargate in the timeline - what were the first ships of each race? - if the races hadn't had ships yet, how did they navigate into eve? and how did the Minmatar manage to colonize Pator without a spaceship to move there?

In recent years, however, the Amarrians have begun to run into serious opposition. First, they met the Gallente Federation. Although much smaller than the Amarr Empire, the Amarrians soon found the economic and military might of the Gallenteans a match for their own.
what is this Gallente opposition?

what is this Gallente opposition?
Presumably they opposed being subservient slaves. Which would explain why there's a Gallente Federation rather than the Gamarr Theocracy. ---

Originally by: CCP Gnauton This project will continue to be a work in progress for the next few months. Every few weeks you should see a new changelist where the latest fixes have been put up for your perusal, and weÆre aiming to have the project fully completed by this summer.
Any chance of a report on what progress has been made over the last 12 weeks as there has been no new changelist, a quarter of the year has passed, and autumn approaches.

Good that you're fact-checking, but what about the grammatical and word choice errors? I've found quite a few in the two-page scientific article 'Faster Than Light Communication' and even more that I haven't finished documenting yet in the chronicle 'The Spirit of Crielere'. Who would I contact about these? A petition seemed like overkill...

You know, there's room to elaborate on the initial Amarr-Gallente contact. Did it happen before or after the Caldari-Gallente war? Was there in fact a brief Amarr-Gallente war? ____________________________________ Caldari by birth, Minmatar by citizenship.

Another two months, another request for an update.
7 months now without any of the change-lists that were supposed to posted every few weeks. Summer has come and gone, as has autumn, and and while I realize that was never intended to be a deadline it would be appreciated if we could hear something, anything, on what is going on with the prime-fiction changes.

It looks obvious to me. This was just one of those things they picked up without realizing how big of a job it was. Letting the retcon project die quietly and leaving the contradiction doesn't disturb the fan base nearly as much as announcing they can't do it without a complete rewrite, or announcing that they are canceling the project.

I think the correct word is "retcon", not "fix".
Also, the text is now missing a closing. A dot, or some more text? |
