Edited by: Robot Robot on 11/05/2009 18:13:01 hey, so i've convinced an RL friend to try eve and he's rolled himself a Gallente toon that's just a day old. I was thinking that it might be fun to take him for a low-sec PVPing roam sometime this week.
so given that he'll be flying an incursus with just a few hundred thousand skillpoints in total, and given that we're going to be just a two man gang, what would be the best ship for me to bring?
I'm pretty new myself. I can fly all T1 minmatar and gallente frigates and cruisers pretty well. My drone and projectile skills are decent, but my medium hybrid turret skills are pretty crap. and, though I can also fly battlecruisers and minnie T2 frigs, I'd rather not for this roam.
the obvious choice is a rifter, and I'd be happy to bring one, but i'm wondering if maybe a cruiser might not be a better way to go. particularly, I was thinking of a rupture, a stabber or a vexor.
if flying a cruiser, I would have my friend fit a 2-point scram, and AB and a web and go in first to tackle, and then I would fit an MWD and a 1-point disruptor for secondary tackle in case of neuts/ECM/pilot-error.
would this make a good two-man roam gang, or would i be better off just flying a rifter or incursus myself?
incidentally, i do have some PVPing experience myself, but it has all either been solo in a rifter or as a grunt in a fleet of much more experienced players. this will be my first time running a multiplayer op and i don't want to kill us from the get go with bad planning.

It would depend on what kind of targets you're looking for.
Frig+frig = smaller targets all the way up to solo cruisers (careful of droneboats). Even noob battlecruisers might be possible if you can get rid of the drones fast enough. Frig+cruiser = Could possibly take on battlecruisers (again careful of drones)

i'd first practice pvp with your friend. not only to give him an idea on what to do but to guage his strengths and weaknesses. dps, tank etc. then you can answer your own questions. try a couple combinations of ships to.
if you got your drone skills to V you can get him to tackle for you and then let your drones peck away at him until you close. i've had success in such a way.

I would suggest you go with a t1 frig too, give your friend the sense that he can pvp just as well as anyone else on day one. Of course this isnt entirely true but if you turn up in a bc or t2 frig he might get the impression that he neds months of training to be able to kill stuff. As for planning, keep it light hearted. Make sure he knows that he will probably die very soon, maybe buy him 5 fitted incursus, and continue the roam until they're all gone. Just make sure he has fun!

Hi, I am playing this game with my wife for about 3 months now, and we are having a lot of fun with our little frig gang. I am flying a Tristan fitted with AB, web and scrambler, while my wife sits in a Griffin fitted wor ECM. Many pilots tend to underestimate our gang, so we were able to kill a couple of destroyers, cruisers and even one T2 fitted Hawk.
PVP is not always about having a lot of skillpoints, it is much more about picking the right fights. Have fun with your friend.

Take a tanky AF and make the tackles yourself. Once you've got the aggro call him in so he can shoot at things and not be much of a threat. Once he's got a taste for explosions and some skill points switch out for a similar frigate and go roaming as a matched pair. You won't scare targets off and should get some good fights.

imho a few day old player would hate low sec. still in limbo about how to even fight and even use directional scanner. unless you have a lot of low sec exp i would not recommend it.

Focus on your friend having fun.
My friend introduced me to lowsec in a simmilar way, with both of us in incurus, it was alright and we got some kills, I made some misstakes (someone blinking red that must be our target open fire! oh sorry friend in 50% hull I'll switch target now) and learned some things. it was a decent way of introducing it.
another idea would be you in an cov op sneaking up on ships he could solo and him warping to you when you're at 5000m, if you can't fly that it's still good advice in general.

Bring a gank vexor so that you have the DPS to kill something decent if you happen across it. Nothing hurts worse than missing a great kill because you brought the AF instead of the HAC if you know what I mean.

All the advice already mentioned above is really great. The most important being that you make sure he has fun, set him up with a bunch of T1 fit incursii (cheap for you as well)
Let him know he will die a lot and that's part of the learning process. Pick your targets careufully.
Try joining up with some Militia blobs. It's not something i'm personally inclined to do but it's a sure way of finding some fights quick. Finding fights that you can win in a couple of frigs is gonna be tough and your friend might get bored along the way.
