keep searching the grav sites do exist and the better ones are lower strength. The best missions to mine are of course the ones with asteroids in them, if you look at eve-survival.org you can see what missions contain what ores in them.

Hiya, Well lower sec grav sites give better ore as in you'll find ores that are normaly in even lower sec when in 1.0 you'll find a low variety of types, a grav site will contain ores that are to be found in 0.7 orso, and down that line
as far as I'm aware it doesn't really matter wich lvl mish you're doing for the mining, the smartest is to just boot up a L3 till you get a good one, again eve survival has some pro numbers on this
an example on the grav sites, between 0.7 and 0.5 I've often found the Omber Galore grav site, most of us will know it since it contains about 800k-900k silver and golden omber now go find that ammount in a mining belt?
sure you could mine veld sell the trit and buy the isogen, but if you can muster 7ish hulks and a few orcas it's a nice corp activity to spice the corp hangar

sort of but not guaranteed. By my experiance it is possible to hit rarer ores in high sec - they are just not that common. I found in a 0.6 system a belt containing a "fair" ammount of jasp, hed and hemo - enough to keep 2 players busy for a couple of hours or so. Saying that though the big "scores" on volume do seem to follow the sec status. Annoyingly I have never found any hidden belt (not in a mission) with any veld or scord in it - maybe thats why its scarce

In high sec you can find any gravimetric belt of any size in 0.8 and below (i.e. Jaspet, Kernite, Omber, Hedbergite, Hemorphite.) It might be bad luck on my part but I don't think that I've seen any in 0.9-1.0. However all of the oresthat you can find in high sec grav sites are worth less than Veldspar going by current mineral prices. (Occasional exception for raw kernite and raw omber whose price can be pretty high because they're needed in the Materials for War Preparation storyline mission, relative prices vary by region so you have to figure it out.)
Once you get down to low sec (0.4-0.1) you can find stuff like Crokite, Spodumain, Dark Ochre. Imho as a solo miner this isn't worth the hassle. It's really easy for pirates to find your mining boat in these sites and the hassle factor of shipping out the ore/minerals really cuts into your profit margins. I have only done limited low sec grav site mining and I probably wont do more.
If you are really interested in the 0.0 ores and scanning then you're better off looking into wormhole grav sites. Even perimeter grav sites (the weakest site type) can have arkonor which is the most profitable ore to mine. Perimeter rats are easy to kill. Spam your directional at 360 degrees, max range, don't use overview settings and run away as soon as a ship or scanner probe appears. It's not safe by any means but it's better than low sec (well, unless you get bubbled but that's pretty rare in wussy holes.) Of course you have to be able to scan and mine or you might get trapped if the wormhole collapses as you're shipping out the ore...
If you are looking for Veldspar then there are a couple of anomalies (that show up in 1.0 and below) that have huge amounts of veldspar. However they also despawn if you warp out of them once the rats are killed so you really need multiple characters to mine them.

Level 1 and level 2 combat missions will have tons of vedlspar scordite etc if you find the right one. Once you find the mission, dont complete it. Just mine it every day for a week until the mission expires.

Level 1 Break Their Will has about 3.3 mil Veld and 1.2 mil Scord. It's quite nice and as long as you don't attack the repair station you can mine it for 7 days with only the occasional belt rat showing up.

The biggest mark against Recon (1 of 3) from the miner's perspective is that the mission is marked as completed the moment you enter the second pocket. I usually farm the first room for a few days, saving the mining operation for the weekend.
There's enough ore in there to keep my Hulk busy for a few hours. With two Hulks the belt disappears pretty quickly.
Farmable missions:
- Attack of the Drones (L4)
- Break Their Will (L1, 2 & 3)
- Downing the Slavers
- Gone Berserk (L4)
- Infiltrated Outposts (L4)
- Mordus Folly (L4)
- Unauthorised Military Presence (L2 or 3?)
One-shot missions:
- Recon (1 of 3) (all levels)

Good question. Though to make it worth the risk, you'd have to stick around and mine for a bit, which might mean having to get a hauler in there, also.

I am amazed noone has mentioned the Pyroxes in that level 4 Serpentis mission. Ironically I cannot recall the name now... Serpentis Spies? Or Massive Attack? Removed. Please keep your EVE signature related to your EVE persona and not that of a real life politician. Navigator |

The storyline mission, A Case of Kidnapping, gave me veld and omber for days. Just don't go to the 5th pocket until you're ready to complete it and turn it in.

Mine everything until you have a pile of cans, transferring to new cans as they get close to popping. Bookmark, turn in mission and haul... I think you could probably get a hulk in through the low level versions.

Largest hidden I've seen was a "Large Jaspet / Omber / Kernite". It took 6 Hulks about 3 days to clear. It was in a 0.8 system.

Scanning down Grav sites is great. My small mining fleet is great for it. The 2 hulks will mine, while the Orca scans down the system for Grav sites. Best i've seen so far was an Omber vein. Between the regular, silver and golden Omber, I think I cleared over a million in raw ore in 4-5 hours.

I've only recently started to search for hidden belts.
Din't have much luck finding any in high sec space, but did find a few in 0.4 and 0.3 space.
Even tho these belts are not marked on your map, player pirates, seem to be well aware of there location. I once warped in to a hidden belt max distance and discovered a interdictor sitting there just waiting to spring his trap and catch an unlucky miner in his web.
How much of a risk is it to be mining in those hidden belts in non secure space? Was it just bad luck to find a player pirate camping a hidden belt or are the commonly patrolled by pirate players? |

Lost a Retriever yesterday.
Level 2 mission "Artifact Recovery" had an asteroid with 2000 units of Arkonor, which was extremely odd. Upon mining it, 8 "Miner" cruisers spawned. The Retriever didn't stand a chance, and popped almost instantly. The industrial, a Bestower with multiple shield boosters 2 of which are always running, got away with like 3 points of armor left.
First time I've ever had a weird spawn like this.

That's because it's a scripted part of that mission. They only appear when you are mining, if I remember correctly, but after you kill them you can mine to your heart's content. Fit a single mining laser on a combat ship, trigger the foes, kill them, and THEN get your barge. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

You can tank up an orca and trundle up to the gate with a hulk in it's belly, then just spit it out and mine away.
