I was recently gagged for spamming Jita Local with blank space, in effect removing dozens of scam contracts from view.
It took about fifteen minutes.
Zydal,Eauelle, SciFi Jon, Comrade Sesk, Isogan Klipp and others have been spamming Jita constantly for DAYS on DAYS. . .
So I ask. . .why are'nt they being gagged for spamming? I know people complain about them. . .all the time. I bet there are fifty posts on this forum concerning spam contracts in local channel. And I am equally certain that the weight of petitions filed concerning scam contracts could break a small mule.
So again I ask, why was I gagged and not them? Why would CCP not want to see the rules applied evenly and fairly to everyone? And why was my thread concerning Anti-Scam tactics deleted? Not Locked mind you, deleted?
Could it be as I claim that some of these scammers are actually CCP alts?
I have been repeatedly informed that not only is this unthinkable, but impossible as well.
So I will not mention the CCP programmer who also a director for a major alliance. . . I won't bring up the moon mining exploit that CCP was aware of for FOUR YEARS before they corrected it. . .
Nope. . .I will just say, that in the interests of justice and fairplay, if you ban/gag/boot me then you MUST do the same to the people that spend all day spamming local channel with fake contracts.

Originally by: Michael Hoare So I ask. . .why are'nt they being gagged for spamming? I know people complain about them. . .all the time.
Are people complaining about them or reporting them?
Quote: I bet there are fifty posts on this forum concerning spam contracts in local channel.
…all of which have exactly zero effect on what happens in the game.
Quote: And I am equally certain that the weight of petitions filed concerning scam contracts could break a small mule.
You're only guessing, actually, and even so, the question remains: are these (supposed) petitions about scams (which are legal, which in turn means that these petitions are clogging up the system for no reason and/or instantly get closed) or about spam?
Quote: So again I ask, why was I gagged and not them?
Maybe because you were reported for spamming, and they are not?
Quote: Until CCP makes serious and meaningful attempts to stop scammers. . .I will do it my way, by hook or by crook.
Well, guess what: you're breaking the EULA; the scammers are not. CCP are not making any serious and meaningful attemps to stop scammers because their activity is entirely in line with the intentions of the game — your disruption of the same game is not. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

yep you're pretty much a moron, you see spam, so you spam more, and then they gag you because you were spamming (But it's a conspiracy, they only gag the anti-spam spammers!! )
But no, that's not enough for you, your mouth is frothing with nerd rage that you can't let it out because you're gagged, so you come to the forums and post even more spam, as well as tie it in to the "dev conspiracy" that the spammers are CCP alts.
I think you need to get out more, and you should probably be forum gagged for a bit too...

I think the reason is, noone cared about those local spammers and noone reported them. But after you spammed local with empty space, the scammers got angry and reported you.
I can not think of another reason.

For those of you who don't care to read that wall of text, this is the transcript of a SINGLE MINUTE of Jita local, and at 4:30 in the morning no less.
There are 31 scam contracts here. . .including at least seven people who spammed multiple bogus contracts in the space of a few seconds. And add in the fact that these scammers are doing this 23/7 every single day makes me think more than a few of them are bots. . .and are'nt bots against the EULA?
If CCP is uninterested in enforcing the rules fairly, then I suggest they stay the hell out of my way and let me fix this problem.
P.S. the 20 plus emails of support I recieved while I was spamming local is all the proof I need that I am right, and that CCP needs to do something immediately,

spamming nothing is breaking the rules of the game, you are purposefully disrupting other peoples business (the scammers) with no reason at all and no gain in it for yourself.
Hate to tell you but scam contracts are a perfectly legit part of the game. And constantly repeating a contract in local channel so people will see it is also a perfectly legit part of the game. You decided that these where evil or somehow wrong and used dodgy game tactics to disrupt their trade as much as possible. This really isn't the way to stop scammers chatting in local warning noobs and whatnot that they are scams (even spamming those warning) would be perfectly fine but spamming 'enter' a million times is not the right way to stop them.

Supporting OP. These spammers post scams at an unnatural rate, and need to have something done about them. I don't give a good god damn about scams, but the fact they can use bots to spam them with seeming impunity is indeed bull****.
And don't give me any crap about proving it. Unless you happen to be the troll living under the biggest rock, you can easily find examples of "people" that spam the same crap in some sort of exact increment, like every 30 seconds, or every 10 seconds, for an entire day, and multiple days in a row. Either they are multiple people sharing an account, which merits a ban, or it's a bot, which also merits a ban.
Ignoring a glaring fault isn't the correct answer either. Why not say that since you don't like criminals getting let out of jail to commit more crimes, that we should just not bother putting them in there to start with? The correct answer is to fix the issue.

No, scamming is a legitimate part of EVE. Spamming local to disrupt the primary function of local (which is communication, even if that communication is stupid and done via bots) is not

Sorry, mr. whiny noob, but scamming is perfectly acceptable in EVE. If you don't think this particular scam should be allowed then you can make a petition or bug report or whatever. But if you think CCP should try to stop scamming then I suggest you do us all a favor and give yourself this "forever-gag"

Agree with op aswell. Spam in every tradehub is just messed up these days. and yeah, as said before me it must be runned by bots, perhaps the same bots iskrunners do very well with perhaps?
If the isk-runners and spammers use the same bot its a useless struggle to get rid of the spam though so i understand why ccp has given up on them. They already lost the war against isk-spammers.
This game is worse then any other game out there today then it comes to spam. Takes the joy out of the game tbh.

Hmmm. . . 30 bogus contracts a minute, thats 1800 an hour. . .thats about 41000 spam contracts a day (or more! My sample is only one minute, and taken at off peak hours). . .
So. . .lets say 40k spam/scam contracts a day. . .times four or six trade hubs. . . why thats about a quarter of a million scam/spam contracts every single day. I'm no computer genius, but I would think CCP would want to do something about this, just to save wear and tear on their system.
Now lets add in the fact that a certain percentage of people are going to rage-quit when they get scammed. . .
Well, I'm not an economic genius either, but I think CCP is allowing themselves to be highly buttsexed by not doing something about this. . .
Now rather than *****ing or moaning (or counter-spamming) I will make a suggestion or two that will solve this problem instantly.
1) Since the majority of scammers are cowards who hide in NPC corps to avoid righteous war-decs. . .I propose that no one in an NPC/Newb corp be allowed to make a contract.
2) Since scammers routinely switch characters to further their scams, instead of the above suggestion I would recomend that creating a contract require a skill at a certain level. While this will not stop scammers it will certainly make them invest a lot more time and effort into it!
3) Make all contract amounts WRITTEN (i.e. nine hundred million instead of 900,000,000 ISK)In case some of you have forgotten, this is an international game and some people may not be as familiar with western math/numbers as they should be. And before any asshat points out how stupid this sounds I suggest they look up the difference between an 'American Billion' and a 'English Billion'.
4) Insert warnings into a contract prior to acceptance (I.E. This article is 1125% above regional average, are you sure you want to continue?) If it works to keep newbs out of low-sec it should work here.
Now. . .all of you basement dwelling forum trolls are invited to critique my ideas or even add some of your own!

signed. i have a very long blocklist, not seeing a lot of scammers, but when one starts spamming blanks all fo a sudden for no obvious reason it really makes me sick.
i love the blocklist feature tough... but i have to admit it would be a hell of a lot easier if 1: trial accounts wouldn't be allowd to talk in local, only in help/corp channels/convos 2: there was a possibility to block entire corps/alliances

Edited by: pipvac on 12/05/2009 11:56:19 This 'expected' morality from CCP makes me laugh.
Here is the low-down...
Whilst subscriber numbers are increasing, CCP make more money, and therefore people are voting with their wallets. Money talks.
When subscriber numbers fall, and CCP start to make decreasing amounts of money, then... and only then... they may listen to why people are voting with their wallet.
Moaning on the forums in some vain hope that CCP will uphold a moral argument is like peeing in the sea hoping to raise the tide.
I dont like the spam either so I minimise local, and/or leave Jita when I'm done. The solution already exists in your client.
In five years of playing Eve, I have never seen CCP uphold any sense of morality, other than when it might impact a regulation (online ratings), cause bad publicity impacting subscriptions (corrupt devs), or a 'significant' breach of EULA. In all cases action was taken to protect the bottom line.
As long as you all keep paying your subscriptions, CCP couldn't give a monkeys.
