Hi,
How common are warp scamblers in level 4 missions? The mission guide(s) makes out that they are quite common but a few people have told me in game that they very rarely see them...
I am a total carebear and dont want to loose my rigged domi...
Cheers,
Cenjui.

Skill to kit it before you fly it. Then grow a set and get stuck in. Girly fail Cenjui is.

just juse your drones to kill the sram frigs, wait until you have agro, send them out and let them kill the frigs first. you only have to worry about the bs, make sure you have enough tank to survive the first few min, Not all level 4 missions have scram frigs, read the mission on http://eveinfo.com/missions/4/ first and then go in
good luck

Thanks. I can tank about 550 DPS cap stable so that should be enough?

You don't need a GREAT tank. To start, all you need is to kill the scram frigs before you die, warp out, repair, then come back in.

Dear Cejui, as you already indicated you've read the mission guides so you should have some kind of sense on what kindof tank you need to survive. If you're worried about it be conservative and stick to a pretty high tank like that guide suggest or close and there's nothing to worry about. Also pack some light/meds to take down the scrambling frigates, in an domi you got an huge advantage compared to most others.
The guys before indicating "grow a pair" did have a point even if they put it kindof blunt, earn more than you lose and it's not an disaster.

However, IIRC, some of the scram frigs have high damage resists, so it can take a while to kill them if you have weak drone skills.

It's an armor tanked ship. It's SUPPOSED to be scratched!
Seriously, ships that web and scramble are very common on L4 missions. However, while webbing is almost guaranteed they don't scramble me nearly as much. I do get scrambled, but I'd guess only about 1 mission in 4. Use of the scrambler seems to be random. I had one missions where there were 4 scrambling frigates, and all 4 had me scrambled. Normally it's all 4 webbing me and perhaps one scrambling.
If you're flying a Domi, you should have tech 2 light drones. If not, why are you in a drone carrier? They eat scrambling frigates. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Edited by: yarrmarr on 12/05/2009 14:18:11 scramming is chance based so even if a ship is said to scramble it doesn't mean it always will. In general I'd say every 1 in 3 missions I get scrambled, but that depends on the type of missions you get (I fly in amarr space)
I do remember a mission I did recently which put 4 scrams on me. made me blink for a few seconds.

Kill Mission Survival Guides
If you don't manage your aggro that Domi is going to get more than scratched. This will tell you if you're going to face webbers and everything else that will mar that beauteous disembodied organ you fly.

With decent droneskills and 1-2 omnis in your mids even T2 heavys finish scram frigs quite fast (specialy the elite ones). If the frigs are far away (50km+) use sentrys to take out a few before they even get in scram range. -------------------

The mission guides are right - they are quite common in L4 missions. I'm guessing the reason people have told you they rarely see them is because they get shot first, so one wouldn't actually see the effects of warp scams all that often. Moreover, scramblers and webbers don't always turn on their modules against you, so you could run into a scrambler that doesn't actually scramble you. There doesn't seem to be an AI to have them check whether of not their gear is on, so they don't even re-try.

The worst I've seen is 4 scrammers in the AE bonus room. More commonly, I only see a scrammer once in a blue moon. Webbers are far more common.
But seriously, if you don't have the drone skills to take them out, go back to L3s. If you don't have T2 drones by the time you start L4s, you should at least be able to deploy 4-5 drones. That should take care of them no problem.

Generaly scramblers are there when you actually need to warp out... or feel like you might.
For example i scrwed up the triggers on blockade about 5min ago... had several spawns on me 15 or so battleships i think, and of course scramblers. I am only running a 1x harder, 2x booster, 1x amp tank so the omg i have to get out instinks kicked in.
I was lucky with a little overheating i was able to kill enough incomeing dps to get my tank back straighted out but i have alot of damage moduals now.
Anyways if you cant aford to loss a domi... perhaps do level 3's for a while until you can.

I rarely get warp scrambed but i usually take down frigates/scramblers with Sentries turrets long before they get in range.
I like to take out the small ships while transversal is low and then switch the the BC's once they get into my optimal, letting the rest of the inty/frigates orbit me unless they are warp scrambling or webbing me and I need to kite. A lot of missions I don't even need to kite so I save the small guys for last to take out the DPS first.

Thanks for your help everyone!
Ran another lvl 4 last night (that's two now!) and breezed it following the advice here.
Three key things I found if anyone else is in the same boat..
1. Man the fun up!
2. Use the right drones. A balance of tech 2 hammerheads, tech 2 hobgoblins and some tech 1 ogres (skill deficit there) was perfect. Hobgoblins to kill the frigs as they close, switch to hammerheads for the cruisers and then ogres for the battleships. Hobgoblin 2's just *eat* those elite frigs. Its almost like instapop!
3. Manage the aggro!
Thanks for all your help!

You almost have it right. The extra DPS of the thermal drones does not compensate for the resistances that certain factions have to that damage type. Use faction-specific drones.
In a Domi you'll find that some missions really benefit from the liberal application of Sentry Drones. Especially missions like Blockade or Gone Berserk, where you get to dictate the range.
