As a new w-space resident for a few weeks I find this one of the most frustrating time sinks about scanning. If you are in a dark system there is no way to see and reposition your probes. I usually have to turn around until I find a way to get some lighting.
Scanning is too time consuming but a pretty simple algorithm that could be automated. This is how I currently scan: 1. scan at max range 2. pick sig, 3. reduce probe range and center them around sig, 4. scan again
I would love to "right click" at one sig and get "pinpoint this signature" option where probes automatically do the center around sig, reduce range, scan, repeat until a warpable spot is found or I click stop.
At the very least a "center probes around this signature" option will make a huge difference.

Edited by: Deva Blackfire on 22/07/2009 20:30:04 Only change (except for the bug fixes) id like to see is difference between wormhole and complex signatures. Just kick out WH from unknown and give them separate entry. Its annoying to find unknowns when i search for holes and vice versa.

Yeah, an option to warp probes to a signature would be very good, struggling with the awkward ui just to get the probes where you want them isn't fun _at all_.

Edited by: Bree Mallory on 23/07/2009 21:56:19 I really quite like the changes to the scan system on the test server that I've seen, especially the scan intersection lines, and the *gasp* actual appearance of multiple possible locations for the same signature. (i.e. 3 probes, 2 dots). The new bubble graphics with an improved transparency layer a very nice addition as well. (much easier on my eyes)
[addendum] Dear god yes move all the buttons that aren't analyze over beside the open map button. |

The new graphics are a huge step back to the 1.0 system that made me like scanning signatures... and loath scanning down ships. Then we got the meshnet stockings of doom. I have had various instances of migraines and headaches from trying to scan, straining my eyes to see the probes orientation box. Good to see that the mesh is finally being removed, but the shadow over the system horizon as well, sometimes the probe orientation/navigation is obfuscated. |

Guess I'm the only one then who can't stand the new changes? Finally removing some of the mesh is the only good part (why not all of it?), but adding even more flashly effects, distracting intersection lines and - worst of all - making the actually probe boxes/arrows so dark you can barely see them now even above the horizon is just making it worse.
All I really want is an option to turn all this mess off, I only need to see the probes (and I mean really see, not like they are now), but I do not care about the bubbles and certainly not about the seizure giving effects which get more and more each patch. I'd train a 30 day skill for this even.

So, with the release of Apocrypha 1.5 just two days away and the last thing heard from the Devs a promise that the scan probing bugs would be fixed in that release, can anyone on the test server confirm how many of the issues brought up in the OP have been addressed on SiSi?

I would not be suprised if they made it even worse. I heard the probe widget is now even worse to see. On TQ scanning barley playable when you have a lower end computer and a older display (which doesnt have a super contrast)! If you turn the shader options to low, the probes are almost invisible! CCP is just adding more and more stupid exe candy instead of a proper working interface. If the probe visibility gets now even worse exploration is dead!
Remove that stupid backround nebulas! Remove the stupid sphere shadows! Give the probe widgets some proper contrast! Damn it!

Are you kidding men ?? Whay not just one button scan system 2 sec and all signatures witch names content in one simple list. f. brobes etc... Scaning is to easy thoes days...

Totally agree with you. Its to hard to see the probe boxes/arrows, as a reflex, I often find myself, with my face all up in the monitor, trying to spot them. Definitely not very healthy for my eyes, and often gives me a headache.
And the seizure giving, hypnotizing scanning effect is just pointless and laggy, I cant imagine anyone liking that effect!
I havent seen the changes in effect yet, but I really REALLY hope the first mentioned issue has been fixed.

Version 99186 still has issues with initial scan probe result filtering. (No I'm not going to put up a BR for it since it should have been properly tested to start with.)

Noone can tell me that CCP ever even tried to probe with their own graphics, it's just a pain overall. Let's play spot the probe:
Because if you can see them, I can't, I basically try to find them blind.
FIX THE PROBES IT CAN'T BE THAT HARD!

totally. I think the new intersection lines are horrible.. complete clusterfuge ... the new bubble graphics are great, but why the intersecting lines ? just the new bubbles alone would be great !@
