They are pointing players to corporations that provide a service to the game. EVE-Uni spends its time training people in the basic and advanced applications of EVE, and RvB provide a source of on-demand limited PvP. These are both things which lead to a more thorough enjoyment of the game, which in turn means more players sticking around for longer, which means more money for CCP. On the other hand, if they were saying "Corp Y has decced Corp X! Go and join in on the slaughter!", that would be crossing the line.

As it is, advertising your corp in game or on forums is effectively free. Having R V B in a splash at log in? No biggie to me. Edit: cause evidently spelling is an issue right now.

What next, an advertisement to tell people to find the nearest goon and try to join? CCP stop showing corporations/alliances favoritism. It ruins the game for everyone else.
