As capsuleers ponder whom they should vote for in the third round of the Council of Stellar Management, CCP Xhagen reminds us of the important work the CSM has done in his newest blog.

Not much seems to have been done considering the length of time CSM has been active.
Granted, more probably goes on than it seems.
The main things I am grateful for, whether CSM or not are
Probing update Fitting
Hope they get planets sorted soon so eve doesn't look like it still has one foot in the past, plus they just look god awful with all the new models.

I voted but would like to note the distressing absence of FW love in the list Finally, someone should make a really cool sig for me. |

/me facepalm. You realize CCP is a company that thinks 4 months ahead? Same with CSM, all changes that may happen will happen far off in the future.

Nice to see the csm is doing a lot of good stuff, would like to see what input they have on balancing changes such as some of the ones stickied in game dev forum atm. Also could csm do things like ensure ccp's methods of balancing are fair rather than just cowboy development as I think this area could use a little more attention/thought.

Instead of just reading your own forums, you need a Council to tell you what needs fixing.

Grrr, I had just written a rather large response. And then the forum logs me out
Anyways. In the current list of things being discussed, the Naglfar was a thing which we discussed during our first trip to CCP's headquarters in Iceland. The changes were then implemented about a week ago. So in essence, that's actually missing from the list.
There's a few other things which are missing(The return of "Load Station Environment", for instance). But hey
A thing which isn't listed in the game development forum, but is discussed a lot, are super capitals. A few weeks ago, at EVE Vegas, they were discussed quite a bit. And at our meeting on saturday with CCP, we also discussed how to balance super-capitals. We sat in a chat-room with some of CCP's design team-members, and had a nice discussion about it. So that's an example of an issue, which the CSM has picked up, which is a hot topic.
So the CSM has a good amount of input on balancing and the like. It's not unheard of, that CCP sends us emails, asking for our input on things they would like to do. But often these things are so late in the decision making, that they are usually released to the public shortly after. An example of that was PLEX cards, which we were invited to discuss with CCP about.

It's nice to see that the CSM has done something, but couldn't all of this have been done without them anyways?

Sigh .
In the same way that anything can be done without representatives, yes. Inefficiently, poorly communicated, having to have the devs themselves sift through thousands of biased whines - sure, it can be done. Having the CSM is theoretically more efficient, and allows focus on actual player concerns, rather than what CCP feel is the 'next big thing to do'. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Soooo...
I still think the CSM is in no way needed and CCP can or could have made up all of this by themselves.
Thats just my opinion on things and you ofc may disagree with me here ...

Black Ops can now cyno into a cyno jammed system Black Ops got an increased scan resolution Black Ops got a decrease in recalibration time Black Ops ships gained 100m3 to cargo bay capacity Black Ops jump fuel cost has been reduced by 100 units per light year Blockade Runners can use Covert Jump portals, meaning they can act as support for the Black Ops
Though all good and needed changes, the Covert Jump Portal still doesn't say it can be used by blockade runners on module info.
In addition, only the prowler (the minmatar blockade runner) is suited to this support task because it is the only BR with 2 high slots so you can fit a covert ops cloak and the CJP. All other races BR (the viator, the crane and the prorator) need an extra high to be able to perfome said role effectively.

What's easier? having a conversation with 9 people who predigest the forums or sifting through thousands of threads with much whining and repetition?
The devs still read the forums, but when it comes to having a conversation about a subject matter, a conversation is way easier to channel than a thread, don't you think?

After the first Council, my opinion was 'lol CSM'. The second session seemed to actually impact how the game is played and was taken very seriously by the devs. I think the third session will be critical.
The game received a huge influx of new subscribers, certainly not all of which are alts of established players. To retain this new playerbase (and revenue stream) CCP will have to push hard on their New Player Experience initiative. The best connection to this playerbase imo has been through the Council.
I really hope the new council spends little time on petty balancing tweaks and complaints. My view is they should be working on items which affect large portions of the playerbase and on bringing key concerns to the development staff. NPE will affect the future of the game and company. Sov changes will affect the future of the game and how it is played. UI changes will affect the the way the game is played. As we will elect the new council, I hope people take the time to vote rationally and not with limited, self-serving interests in mind.

Not trying to hijack the thread and turn it into a Black Ops thread but im pretty sure that its the Black Ops that fits the Covert Jump Portal Generator I and uses this to "bridge" in the covet fleet. None of the covert fleet need this mod fitted thus all Blockade Runners work fine as support for a Black Ops.
Please correct me if im wrong as I have a few accounts that are gonna need to alter their skill plan if I am wrong. |

Only the Black Ops ship needs to fit the generator. Only covert ships can use covert jump portals that are generated by the covert cyno generator.
Make sense?

Well, thats what the community is therefor.
People in the forums discuss stuffz everyday and give way more then enough suggestions for how to fix, even without a Dev replying to it.
I mean, what do they discuss there? Are their discussions so much diffrent from the forum ones (If you take the trolls away)?
Ç:
In my eyes, its a big lie that they read certain parts of the forums at all.
Nearly every second thread in Ships & Modules people state that rockets are ****, Blaasters are ****, Missiles in General, and so on...
Then Nozh comes up with a thread asking again whats broken and trys to work it up a little bit.
And now, they also need a council to bring up the same issues for the 3rd time.
You get my point?

Erm those are not gallente *the empire ones anyway* boats as they are owned by outer ring exacution corporation which is a nullsec gallente corp. If you want caldari/minmatar/amarr mining boat use the respective mining cruiser they have. Which are scythe, arbitrator *drone mining bonus*, and lastly osprey.
You are out of luck if you think ORE will redesign the 3 existing exhumer/barge series to non-gallente style. Oh wait they are not even remotely like gallente boats!

Edited by: CommmanderInChief on 29/05/2009 10:14:23 Is that it? Seriously? Personally CSM what an absolute waste of time! Alot of this stuff was already asked for ages ago by the community. Some of this stuff here is just absolute pointless to the normal player...As with the rest of the last CSM what have they actually really done...nothing..
