With our old friend the Lag Monster in ascendance in E-7, here's a little battle report from less-stressed nodes.
Last night in Edilkam:
Ombil Coalition:
Carriers: 7 Battleships: 17 & claymore, couple bc
Losses: 7 Carriers, 14 Battleships
Rooks and Kings:
Carriers: 6 Dreadnaughts: 1 (+ 4 once they initialised self-destruct) Battleships: 15 & a zealot
Losses: 1 Zealot.
Parties mentioned in write-up: Ombil (coalition of Aridia alliances who shot us when we arrived, cool guys though û includes the alliances Psychotic Tendencies, Sleepless Nights Alliance, EntroPraetorian Aegis, Cryogensis and some others), Rooks and Kings (ex-Foundation guys, professional madmen), Bright Side of Death ("BSOD" alliance; hold South Aridia assets, also work with Blind Octopus).
Build up: We went to hit an Ombil tower coming out of reinforced in Edilkam. Unfortunately, a repping Thanatos managed to escape us but we killed the tower and started putting our own one up.
Then we headed South, with just over a dozen battleships, to kill a BSOD tower. BSOD formed up a 40 man, battleship-heavy fleet and cross-jumped us as we headed South. Presumably seeing that we were now on the far side of a BSOD fleet that heavily outnumbered us, Ombil Coalition decided it was a good time to go for our newly anchored (and still unarmed) tower in Edilkam.
But we decided to go for the BSOD fleet regardless, and used some old-school triage tactics to defeat them without loss. Whilst we were scooping loot, word came through that Ombil had twenty battleships hitting the new tower. Even though the tower had no guns, we did have a couple scrams online, so we put one each on a battleship and then decided to race over. Even if we didn't get a fight, we'd get a couple of extra BS kills. But it turned Ombil & friends had a more interesting scrap in mind.

The Fight: Once we were in warp to the unarmed tower (both sides having similar numbers of BS) and saw that Ombil were holding their ground, we knew that they were up for a proper Sunday night fracas.
We were aware that minutes earlier, their coverts had watched us kill the much larger BSOD fleet with two triage carriers and that they'd probably have a contingency plan to prevent this happening to them too. So it proved - once the fight kicked off, Ombil dropped a cyno and jumped capitals in. An 'animation scout' (there are too many careers in Eve <3) immediately spotted a lot of neutralising. We returned the favour and jumped in an equal number of carriers. Luckily, since we'd known we were watched in the BSOD fight, we'd kitted out a carrier group with a strong capital energy spider and a few hidden triage if needed. Mr. Pixar in the crowÆs nest reports æsparky red flashes from their carriersÆ and lots of them? Perfect.
From observation (later justified by an inspection of fittings) it seemed that their plan revolved around heavy-neuting carriers with at most one capital rep/boost each and a single triage carrier of their own to mop up the rep.
Hereafter followed a nice tug-of-war battle, the likes of which one sees more in mid-sized fleet the days û ships on both sides getting rep and a battle of attrition between cap and hitpoints. It's a nice kind of fight because everyone gets their money's worth, rather than getting the insta-pop short straw and hearing about it from station. One could tangibly watch the momentum of the fight from Teamspeak calls on capacitor percentage - and the sense of when logistics are creaking at breaking point and when they are emphatically holding, makes for good tension.. Credit to Ombil & friends for bringing it.
We had some advantages as the fight went on - their battleships were going down and ours weren't. As we all know, the value of a squad of ganking BS shouldn't be underestimated, even with caps on the field. Also, cyno-placement suited us. Our fighter blob was on their caps, moving between targets, but there was enough room between them and our own caps for a smart-bombing wall around our carriers. And given the amount of cap generated in the spider, the smartbombing battleships tasked with it could have discoÆd on into the next century. All of which reduced their carrier dps enormously.
Once their triage carrier was down (and nearly all their battleships dead) they began to initiate self-destruct and we started jumping in dreads to finish them off. We got killmails on five caps with the rest taking the hari-kari route.
Our only loss was a zealot*.
*though I suspect he purposely didn't call for support, in order to try and come back in something meatier.
P.S. Our tidings to the Hamster King for his good nodes in fights of this ilk throughout the weekend.

Sounds like a nice battle without the common blob-factor, well done! The animation scout seems to be a good addition to tactics planning and execution, but I don't personally feel envy for the pilot doing that job |

Aridia has spiced up as of late. Helped rob Ombil Coalition of 2 towers last night (1x large caldari, 1x medium caldari) by popping 2 t2 haulers coming to get each. Downed a rapier a bit later on a gate, he was highly outnumbered. Rough total for Ombil Coalition losses last night is around 800-900m isk.
Ya I know, not huge battles or massive blobs, but fun enemies, fun fights, and every now and then we get stoned and/or drunk and get the enemies to join us on Eve Voice. Can't ask for much more than that.

Damit, i always leave the party just that little bit to early, well done to Rooks and Kings, sounds like you had a great fight, Ombil have been good fun to play with recently and have a good few respectfull pilots.... they need to use them more!
@ Ombil, was it more fun than your basic mining ops?, i hope so, and hope more of your younger members have experianced the 'fun factor' of pvp in eve.
Good job to all involved
