I've been toying with the idea of using cov op cyno for recons, cov ops, blockade runner, black ops (think thats all of them), however only the black ops shows a jump range.. how far can the recon ships and such jump? Same as black ops for all of them?
also, cyno jammers don't affect cov op cyno yes? And it's not detectable?
Thanks in advance for any help -sig- Support the introduction of Blaze crystals for Amarr!

I believe that the range for the Covert Jump Portal is the same as the range for the Jump Drive of the Black Ops Battleship that is generating it. Which means 2 ly base with any bonuses from Jump Drive Calibration.
A Covert Cyno will show up plainly on-grid so anyone with the proper overview setting will see it. However, unlike a normal Cyno, it does not display system-wide, only on-grid, so if you're alone at a safespot somewhere and are pretty quick about it (i.e. not enough time to be scanned out) you can move about with a high degree of stealth. At least until someone notices you in Local.... -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Cov Ops, Recons, BRs, etc do not have local Jump Drives, which is why they do not display a jump range. Black Ops are the only sub-capital ship in the game which possess a jump drive (hence the term capital jump drive). Black Ops also have the option of fitting a module called the Covert Jump Portal Generator which allows them to create a bridge which the aforementioned ships can use to bridge from the blackops to the Covert Cyno. This is a limited version of the standard Jump Portal Generator which titans use. The bridge range is equal to the Jump Range of the Black Ops who opens the bridge (up to 4.5ly at JDCV).
Covert Cyno's are different from standard cynos in pretty much every way. They are still "covert" regardless if you set up your overview to display them or not, which is why there's virtually no benefit from doing so.

Thanks a lot for that explanation! Seems the jumping thing is different from what i thought then... (i thought say a cov op could open a cov op cyno in 0.0 and then our recon gang could jump to it... but seems i need a black ops to send us there now... and i take it the black ops cant go through its own portal?) oh well time to change the plans somewhat then... -sig- Support the introduction of Blaze crystals for Amarr!

Not sure if the black ops can use its own portal but if not it has a jump drive anyway so it can just jump the old-fashioned way.

oh yeah, stupid me
still..a black ops is a 800m+ uninsurable ship and not something id be comfortable using in 0.0 yet. I'm the only one with skills for it (for a good while) and it'd be pointless bridging in people and then have to go the long way myself in a recon later to join them... be just as good going the long way all of us then... -sig- Support the introduction of Blaze crystals for Amarr!

Its all covert like, so out in 0.0 it shouldnt be a problem using it unless your one of thoe people who kick the door down and go at it. Be all ninja like.

Don't tune out the Black Ops yet. 6 months ago they were selling for just over 500m (that's what I bought mine for). CCP has been getting lots of pressure to add functionality to them and they've been responding slowly. As a result the price has started to climb.
They've promised more enhancements in the future. Watch the game development forum to stay ahead of what's brewing.
And if you've got the ISK lying around you might as well buy one and sit on it. I think prices are going nowhere but up.

Prices going up has nothing to do with any changes CCP has made to BOs and has everything to do with Moon Mineral bottlenecks which has impacted the cost of ALL t2 ships. BOs and Marauders are impacted the most simply because they are T2 Battleships and need more of the bottleneck reactions than other T2 ships. Command Ships saw the 2nd largest price increase despite the fact that they've received no buffs and have continued to decline in popularity/use simply because they're not efficient PVP ships, ISK wise. If the price continues to go up CCP will need to fix alchemy by reducing the number of Cadmium units needed to replace Dyspro in that reaction, which would probably lead to Cadmium moons turning 1-2bil a month profits but reduce the profits from Dyspro by a bit, maybe -10% a month.
But yeah, i'm definitely glad we bought ours when we did. My corp as a whole must of bought, let's just say a very large number of Black Ops ships, @ 500mil each or so. I personally bought 2 Redeemers at that price and I'm starting to wish I had bought at least 2 more.

oh i'll deffo keep them in mind, however at current costs not to mention even higher im going to have trouble seeing any kind of cost effectivness... 500m and i'd deffo think much less of the cost
i'll try one out and either loose it horribly (i have a slightly bad habit of engaging when i know i really shouldn't) or decide it's worth its isk
possible improvments sounds nice though... -sig- Support the introduction of Blaze crystals for Amarr!
