Solution Part 1: Combat pilots get ships with combat bonuses. Exploration pilots get ships with exploration bonuses. Traders get ships with? Nothing.
Give me ships with bonuses to trade skills or give me death. A frigate that increases profit margins by 5% per level. A tradecruiser that makes people pay 5% per level more then the price on the market. A tradeship with bonuses to lasers and shield resistances. Every other profession has more then one class of ship absolutely dedicated to their goals APART FROM TRADERS.
Solution Part 2: Remove all haulers from the game. Allow traders to teleport goods from anywhere in the galaxy to anywhere else in the galaxy. Combat pilots and exploration pilots don't have to make 15+ jumps in the slowest ships (which are also the biggest targets) to accomplish their goals yet we traders get THE SHAFT once again.
Conclusion: It is very difficult to make any kind of profit trading. Many turn to scamming in an effort to make a quick buck such as the legend Delphi Grendalus. More often then not traders in this game actually make a LOSS, not a profit. Trading as it is right now is completely BROKEN and DEAD.
Proof: Watch local in a trade hub, how many legitimate trades do you see compared with scamming trades? If legitimate trading was actually profitable no one would be a scammer.

As much as you raise an...interesting point, you're also obviously a biased party downplaying the (potential) profit margins of your profession.
Half-competent traders can make BILLIONS in a month. Consistently. The good ones make tens of billions in that same timeframe. Risk-free. You don't even have to leave the station to make this much money. Show me any other profession that can succeed so well without ever having to undock. |

Edited by: Jita Security on 20/05/2009 11:37:04 I knew I would be flammed by those of you who supposedly "make BILLIONS every second of every day". The fact is there is not one single person that consistently makes billions trading. You have a billion in incoming isk in your wallet but you more then likely have at LEAST 975M outgoing.
I sit in Jita ALL DAY attempting to trade and watching local. I've crunched the numbers and ran every forumla. It is near impossible to turn a profit trading in the current system. My changes would not only make trading a lot more fun but it would also open it up for new players to start making profits.

OPs argument suffer wrecking hits from reality.
First off - traders *do* have dedicated ships: Indus, Blockade Runners and Freighters.
Not only are there many people making tons of money form trading, I met a noob (few weeks in game) once who already made 10s of million just by trading.
There's plenty of money in trading. If op failed because his attempts to make 215% margin by shipping stuff from Jita 4 to Jita 10 didn't work out then - shrug - that's not really a problem.

Edited by: Jita Security on 20/05/2009 12:40:18 Just a little background for all you lame flamers and trolls:
IRL I am a successful day trader (not blowing my own horn here but I make 7 figure sums in USD a quater). I own my own brokerage firm and mainly deal with stocks relating to ship builders and other naval industries. I KNOW what I am talking about, I KNOW all about the basic and advanced concepts behind trading and I KNOW for a fact that trading in this game is 100% broken.
IRL we have all sorts of laws and independant bodies to monitor and control the market which is why the world economy is as stable and realiable as it is. However being devoid of these safe guards in EVE it seems to have allowed about 10-12 people to control the ENTIRE market and make it dance to their whims. The only one of which I have been able to identify is the self-styled "Queen of Scams" Delphi Grendalus.
My solutions would not only free the market from the clutches of these shadowy 12 figures (lets just call them, MJ-12 or Market Judicators-12) but also allow it to slip and flow organically. It should be plainly obvious to everyone that everything being controlled in this way puts way too much power into the hands of only a few and is bad for the game, overall.
If you can't see that then I am afraid you don't know anything about trading, the market or EVE in general.

Edited by: Anos Tammo on 20/05/2009 13:53:30 OP, if you can't make any profit trading in EVE, then you're doing it wrong. That's all there is to it.
And I'm sure you're smart enough to be able to figure out the differentiation of the in-game trading possibilities to that of real-life. You can't expect a online game to be affected by all the factors one would see in real-life, as the online game markets excist only within the structure of the game mechanics and the liberties of it's players within that construct. As such, don't expect the EVE market or EVE's players to behave within the reasoning of real life, though EVE's market is the closest to the real thing I've come accross in a GAME.
So to succeed in trading in EVE, the age old beaten horse, though no less true, Learn and Adapt, is key.
edit: added second and third clause in retort to the OP's self-reflecting remarks.

There exist no ships with bonuses that effect your profit margins, no matter what "profession" they're used for.
Ships get bonuses towards what they're intended for - scanning, speed, damage output, tanking, cargo capacity, etc.
People that mine use mining ship bonuses to help them profit by being able to mine quicker, more efficient, etc.
People that haul items use hauling ship bonuses to help them profit by being able to carry more items per run, etc.
People that mission use ship bonuses to help them destroy targets faster, etc.
People that go ratting use ship bonuses to help them destroy targets faster, etc.
What I'm getting at, is that no ships have bonuses that directly influence profits/income. So why should there be a shiptype that does give bonuses with a direct impact on that?
If you wanted your special trading ship that gives percent bonuses to your profit margin, whatever, then you'd have to give ships used for ratting and missioning percent bonuses to bounties collected, mining ships would get percent bonuses to how much their minerals/ores get sold for, hauling ships would get percent bonuses to what their goods get sold for, etc.

Edited by: Jadetiger1 on 20/05/2009 14:22:09 Edited by: Jadetiger1 on 20/05/2009 14:21:44 I learned that there aren't many "Trader" how-to's and I imagine it is because everyone's level of trading is different. And if the top traders gave away their methods, then it would cut into there profits. I love it when the pirates try and take down my transports, haven't lost one yet, it gives excitement to an otherwise boring trade run. The simplest way to make ISK trading is buy low sell high and reduce your overhead (through training applicable skills), its that simple.

As a fellow officer of law-enforcement I would expect a far more truthful answer. It is not becoming of us to lie or bend the truth. How much did your frighter cost you exactly? How often does this magical profit that you made (which no one else is capable of) occur?
Thats what I thought. In order to turn even the slimest of profits in EVE you have to first train up skills in order to both trade and fly some of the biggest most expensive ships in the game. Then you have to spend hours and days combing the markets in many different regions.
When you eventually spot something you can make a profit on you have to fly a ship thats worth 5 times the potential profits in order to make "200mil in about.. 30 minutes." Even if you were not exagerating (which I am fairly sure you are, more like 50 million after expenses and 2 hours to make the jumps) the risk of flying around a billion isk frieghter for such low returns does not stack up when compared to the other professions of EVE!
If CCP wont give us TRADEships with bonuses to trade skills and profits, then at least give us TRADErigs with similar bonuses. Then we could fly any of the regular ships with their bonuses and trade would still be given a boost.

No truth bending, and a freighter costs about 800mil. They CANNOT die in highsec, you would need about 500 BS to suisicde themselves.
Regardless have i made my investment back on the freighter? Well since i use it to bring all supplies to our w-space openeings yes I have made my investment back on it, and while im bored, if you play the market and look at the buy and sell orders, you can make alot of isk. It takes time and patience, watching the trends and sometimes you get lucky and see a 1-isk per min increase in price, you might have to jump 3-15 jumps, but its possible.
Also put an alt in every hub, Rens/Jita/Agil, log in, see if there are any good returns for moving the items, and buy and sell. If there arent enough to fill a freighter a transport ship costs about 150mil fully rigged and fitted, you can stuff 10k of cargo in one with a crappy tank and be completely safe.
So there are ways to make isk, but you actually have to work.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry at this post
The IRL I'm a trader and make gazillions of USD per month thing, what has that got to do with eve, a science FICTION game? How can a ship affect your profits? name me an example IRL of how a vehicle can affect your trading? I fail to see what the OP is about apart from a troll, what realistic bonus would you expect to see for a ship, who pays for the profit margin in your trade frigate? Let me show you an example.
2 sell orders for an Invuln II in Jita IV-4 1 has 23 @ 2,376,961 isk 1 has 94 @ 2,971,201 because of an extra tax of 594,240 isk as the seller has trained up 'TraderFrig' to 5 so your argument for extra profit margins due to skills is fundamentally flawed.
Your solution #2 remove all haulers from the game???? wtf are you talking about??? how does a miner get stuff from the belt to the station, the combat / mission runner get his supplies from the market? you want teleportation brought in instead? get a grip man, why bother having ships if you can teleport stuff, if you can teleport exotic dancers then you can teleport a pod pilot, that would do away with sec-status issues, you could teleport your stuff from a nice safe 1.0 to your low sec home when you're -9.9 and not have to worry about getting WTFPWNBBQ'd by concorde
My little hauler can haul 3,000m3 and will hold 2km/s all day long with an align time of 5.4s so haulers aren't slow, it's a case of the right ship for the right job.
You want to make money from trading then train up skills, build up standing with the station owners and stop trolling in forums saying how unfair it is that there isn't a dedicated ship for traders.
It's not often I'm wrong, apart from the comments I make in the signature, and then I'm often wrong. On the other hand maybe I'm getting confused. ......My head hurts :( |

IRL we have all sorts of laws and independant[sic] bodies to monitor and control the quality of coffee beans which is why the world coffee supply is as stable and realiable[sic] as it is. However being devoid of these safe guards in EVE it seems to have allowed about 10-12 people to control the ENTIRE market and make it dance to their whims. The only one of which I have been able to identify is the self-styled "Queen of Brewing" Delphi Grendalus.

Proof: Watch local in a trade hub, how many legitimate trades do you see compared with scamming trades? If legitimate trading was actually profitable no one would be a scammer.
You already have ships with bonuses that directly benefit traders...they are called 'industrials' 'freighters' 'jump freighters' and 'transport ships'.
And you have skills..my god you have skills..that bump your profit margins directly.

Your in JITA you moron! The most overpopulated (mainly by traders) area of the Eve Universe! Most of the deals are already taken there unless you know exactly what to look for. Try the other trade hubs for a bit or moving stuff from one hub to the next where the prices are higher there! I'm not a trader and I've made a fair few million in a quick trip from Jita to Rens and visa versa - and thats with buying from sell orders and selling to the buy orders so all instant cash!
If your not making a profit your doing it wrong. Don't blame the system for that.

It should be plainly obvious to everyone that everything being controlled in this way puts way too much power into the hands of only a few and is bad for the game, overall.
If you can't see that then I am afraid you don't know anything about trading, the market or EVE in general.

Originally by: Jita Security Remove all haulers from the game. Allow traders to teleport goods from anywhere in the galaxy to anywhere else in the galaxy.
I cant beleive this one. The logistics of EVE make it one of the best games for economy, trading and stockpiling etc. I hate looking back at games I've played where owning an item makes it available in any bank (aka "station") in the game. Teleporting goods would remove this amazing mechanic. Also, if you could teleport goods then what would be the blinking point of star-gating players around.

Edited by: Jita Security on 21/05/2009 15:36:30 Lets try and keep this on topic please. Delphi Grendalus is my main, I really have only been playing for about a month now. A few weeks back I bought a character called Silencering because I wanted to see what nullsec was like, evemail me in game and just ask and I would have told you as much. I also have numerous scammer alts that I use to scam the main trade hubs, again check their bios and it will tell you Delphi is the main (of those that are not recycled yet).
This other person that I have been accused of being is just one in a long list of people I supposedly am but that doesn't change the facts.
Also I do undock very often as it happens, you can find me traveling between Jita and Dodixie these days.
Now I appreciate all the thinking you have all put towards the subject of me but lets just stay on topic shall we?

My main is Delphi Grendalus, permanent and proud SWArtan. The character I bought is Silencering who as I said, is in nullsec. All other scammer alts never undock.

Capacity bonuses. Speed bonuses.

You're funny. Make the funny man squirm again daddy.
Solution Part 2: Remove all haulers from the game. Allow traders to teleport goods from anywhere in the galaxy to anywhere else in the galaxy. Combat pilots and exploration pilots don't have to make 15+ jumps in the slowest ships...
So use a faster ship. Exploration pilots have to make lots of jumps and sit about waiting for scan results.

Just because you're rubbish at it doesn't mean it's difficult.
Quote: Proof: Watch local in a trade hub, how many legitimate trades do you see compared with scamming trades? If legitimate trading was actually profitable no one would be a scammer.
You call that proof? That one inefficient trading tool is flooded by lackwits? Hardly a surprise then that you're finding it hard to turn an honest ISK.
My conclusion: you are either stupid or a troll.

If legitimate trading was actually profitable no one would be a scammer.
really? really?
So your flying this "scam cruiser", i buy something from you off the market listed at say 1mil, now you have the scam crusier skill to level 5 and although the price is listed at 1mil I end up paying 1.25mil? riiiiiiight.
a frigate that adds 25% to profit margin... so your flying this and i bought an item for 1mil but yu end up with 1.25mil even though my wallet only lost 1mil... yea i don't see this being exploited at all by anyone with an alt.
Remove all haulers from the game? Good luck getting your minerals* out of the belts.
*just incase you were unaware, items in game have to be built by someone, who has to mine or purchase minerals or ore off the market (hopefully the seller isn't flying a scam cruiser). Those minerals are not "magically teleported" to where ever you want them.
trading DOES have horrible profiting. Thats why a lot of traders also are builders or work with a CORP so they are selling what others build. Maybe they also have other skills that they can't max out in 3 months as well like mining, or combat skills for mission running. Building your equipment to trade, while more time consuming it is more profitable.
scamming is just an idiot tax. Just seems like we have a lot of idiots who have not learned yet.
Don't make enough money as a trader... maybe, uh, do something else?
Unlike World of homosexualcraft this game IS a harsh world and you HAVE to adapt or go play hello kitty fantasy island.

ok i'll give it another go.
All other professions revolve around ways to get/make money. (mining, scamming, missions, pvp, exploration, etc)
trading however revolves around making your money grow.
Trading in eve requires you to go big (shipping garbage or fertilizer all over the universe in a freighter, or if your risky, bringing booze and drugs to/from npc 0.0).
Now once you go big, people tend to notice and take note. So you need escort for your freighter, which means you need a corp. Which means wardec, then you need more security, then you got more mouths to feed so you need to scale up your operation more, get more traders, then you need multiple escorts.
You expect massive profits from trade, you need to have the infrastructure in place.
Unlike real life you do not have a real stock market and the prices are not decided by anything like the price of oil and the us dollar. Eve is free in that anyone can start small in trade and could potentially build up to the point where they need a massive operation to control everything. Unlike real life where a dozen oil companies create wars, etc.

Like others have said, what spammers in particular need is an ISK seller/scammer spam bonus bs. This ship would increase spam rep %5 and 2 extra spam lines per rep. The T1 Flooder would have 6 mids for fitting Caldari racial spam mods that are bonused in their sovereign systems. Its T2 version the Crasher can be a Heavy Interdictor sort of class in terms of chat/trade that have a 99% CPU reduction in mods that launch a chat/trade killing spam bubble, enabling the spammer to operate simultaneously in all stations within a 6 system radius.
