Celestis is my first cruiser and I need help outfitting it. I plan to npc hunt in 0.6 and 0.5 systems. Initially, I thought I would fit 3 250mm railguns and 2 assault missile launchers with whatever type of missiles. I'm undecided on what to do with med and low slots, but I have thought about fitting a jammer(not sure which one) or a weapon disruptor, a medium shield extender, and a 10mn ab. For the low slots I thought I would fit something to boost power grid(to accomodate medium shield extender) and possibly weapon upgrades.
Again this is my first cruiser and I'm unsure of what path I should take so any suggestions on my low and med slots would be greatly apprecciated. I am also open to suggestions on what do do with my 5 high slots. |

Spawns in 0.5-0.6 are mostly frigates... you'll be fine.
I agree with the 2 250mm rails and 2 Compact Limos in the highslots. Put an MWD/Med Shield Booster/Cap Recharger in the middle, and fit the lowslots with RCUs/CPRs ( and a damage mod if you have the Engineering skills to spare a few low slots ).
You don't really need jammers/disruptors for npcs in 0.6

The Celestis was actually my second cruiser (Thorax being the first) and I have to say that I like this cruiser alot. I currently run 2 250's (both named), 1 200mm and 2 heavy launchers in the highs. Medium Shield booster, 1 shield hardner and a cap recharger in the mediums. And in the lows I have 1 damage mod, 1 tracking enhancer and 2 Power diagnostic units. I have hunted in .4 very successfully with this setup (although occasionally I have to warp out to recharge if I make a mistake or the spawn is bigger than normal) and have run lvl 3 missions very successfully. I have only come close to losing this ship 1 time a few months ago against guristas (was using an asteroid for missile defense and got hung up on it when I had to run. Had 50% structure left , but then recharged and went back to kill the whole spawn hehe). I think the celestis is a good cruiser you will just have to learn what the limits are (mainly not easy to setup a defense with it, although been toying with the idea of an armor tank setup lately).

No drones?
Celestis with drones will wipe the floor with frigate and cruiser spawns right down to 0.0 space np. Its a lovely ship, imo, the best in its particular tier.
Just make sure you get the engineering and electronics skills to level 5 to get the most out of all ships -------------------------------------------- Dead

The Celestis is certainly favourable to Thorax for me aswell. Try spending some time increasing your basic electronic and engineering skills so you don't have to install processors or power cores that take up the valuble low slots. For hunting NPC pirates I've found the following set up works a treat. High Slots 2 x Heavy Missiles - 2 x 720mm Howitzers (medium projectiles) 1 phased plasma 1 EMP rounds 1 x 240mm Howitzer (small projectile) - phased plasma rounds (+drones if you have them)
Medium slots Cap Booster 10Mn Micro Warp Drive
Low Slots Power Diagnostics if power output not high enough to have all other upgrades online As many overdrives as possible in the remaining slots
My tactic is about as basic as they come but the pirates don't really ever seem to do anything new about it.
I jump into the system 40 or 60 km away if pirates are there I approach to just within 40km, get missile locks and start firing off heavy missiles. Weak pirate frigs will be iced in 1 or 2 shots. the rest of the group will come straight for you....when they get within 30km start firing your medium howitzers **Get rapid fire and sharp shooter to increase optimal range and rate of fire** By now they are starting to get close.. so down at about 25 km pick one of the ones you're not about to destroy and pick the 'keep at this distance' option.
every time they get close to about 15km flick the micro warp drive (may need a couple of boosts) on and you'll easily regain your lead. You can do it with an afterburner but you have to fire it alot more and they will catch up quicker. Below about 10km your guns will miss all the time. Any time you need too, use your cap booster to top up reserves.
The only times I've ever had problems are when I'm not paying attention, destroy the rat I've been out pacing, stop and they all catch up. If you pay more attention than me, you're unlikely to get any damage inflicted on you at all. If you come up against rats with light missiles this also means you're always outside their range.
Some people don't seem to like howitzers cos of the slow rate of fire and clips of about 11 - 15 rounds, but their range and the damage multiplier more than makes up for it... plus you use up alot less ammo.
I must admit it's not the most exciting method and if you want to go for their cargo pods you've got a good way to travel back to where your first kill was, but it requires little more than to fly in a straight line knocking chuncks out of rats.

Well, actually I usually do run around with hammerheads and infiltrators but do not have to use them most of the time. Only have to use them if the rats get to close (Serpentis).

Thanks for the input. I have a few questions. First, it seems like it would be good to put drones but I'm not sure which ones. Logic would say I should put heavy drones but what if more medium drones are better. I'm not sure.
Also does anyone think assault launchers are any good or should I go to heavy launchers as soon as I can get the skills?
Finally, does anyone think I should use a shield extender. I think it would be great to have 400 more shield hitpoints and combined with a med booster I could really have a good shield defense, I think. Suggestions always welcome!

If you are fighting cruiser and frigate spawns, medium and light drones are the best IMO. They move fast and do good DoT.
I've taken down massive spawns with just 8 med drones out, without firing a single gun. Drones are your friends -------------------------------------------- Dead

i do level 3 mission with the dominix, with 4 x250mm named---- 2 smart bombs armored tanked and capacitor fasgt recharged. i let the droens out and only clock and shoot if there are more than 3 cruisers around other than that heavy drones are fine, im training to 11 but even when i had 9 they worked jsut fine, i dont get hit by missiles because i use the smart bombs for that, they shew my shields in secs, but the armor baby is just a no go zone ..

okay...well what i would do is do the launchers...then fit either hybrids or lasers....then fit out my drone bay with at least 10 different types of drones but the problem with drones it that u can forget u launched them and warp out then warp back to discover all of your drones are missing.....microwarpdrive for the med slot..and thats the ONLY thing in case you dont have any power or CPU boosters. if you have those, then do sheild boosts....and for the lowslots do something that either increases your gun range or makes the ship go faster...
