A) Swedish cities don't really have ghettos. The only "ghetto" there in Malm÷, Rosengsrd, is a sad excuse for a ghetto. Still though, getting an apartment/house outside Rosengsrd is still a pretty good bet as there are areas in Rosengsrd with high levels of crimes and violence (for Sweden that is). Note though that as an American Rosengsrd is NOT the place to be as it has a high level of immigrants, many of them from areas where the US isn't exactly well liked (Serbia, Iraq, Syria etc). B) Dunno. Malm÷ is the third largest city in Sweden, but I've never liked the place. C) Alcohol in Sweden is pretty expensive and The Pub/Bar isn't as ingrained into Swedish culture as it is elsewhere. That said, popular places include the Pickwick Pub, Bishop's Arms (a chain in Sweden that focuses on providing an english-style pub with a very large sortiment of different types of beers&whisky) and the pubs around Lilla Torg (moosehead/Melloyello/Centiliter/etc)
Note though that you're within 30 minutes of SirMolles place. That's entertainment all in itself =P ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. It's given freely and only grudgingly withdrawn. |

Malm÷ is the ghetto.
Your best bet is to get your corporation to engage themselves in finding you a place to stay. The local villages oftentimes let you slide past the 5 year long queues to the sought after neighbourhoods if you're gravy enough to ride the train.

Wow, that felt a bit random. Seeing Malm÷ as the topic, that is.
Official site in English and the one of our screwy tower. (While interesting in concept, the building looks a bit shabby up close, tbh).
There's music to be had (ooh, Booka Shade). Couldn't find an English site for the last two, sorry.
You can go by bus.
Well, Rosengsrd isn't that bad. If anyone thinks Rosengsrd is a ghetto, they haven't been out much. It's dull and not the prettiest part of Malm÷, I'll give you that, but the looks and the over all feeling differs a lot depending on what part you are in.
Anyhow, since there are nicer places in Malm÷ I see no need to consider Rosengsrd as the first choice.
If you happen to have disposable income and like architecture, the apartments in VSstra Hamnen are quite nice (but not always up to spec for what you pay, sadly), though it might not be easy (nor cheap!) to get hold of one.
What we miss in pub culture we make up for in fika culture (seriously, the first and only Swedish word you need to learn is "fika", even the Japanese have picked it up as a loan word, code switching, ftw). Also, a fika isn't a 5 minute deal. No siree, this you do for hours on end.
Sometimes I wonder if most people here prioritize the need for a fika higher than being able to pay the rent (me included, I guess *hrm*). Sadly, a lot of coffee shop chains have popped up about everywhere lately and getting a decent cup of black coffee (read: strong enough, not stale, burnt and bitter) could quickly become an achievement between the lattes, macchiatos and what not. (Actually, what they do at some of the coffee chains is giving you a watered down espresso...)
However, a coffee is no beer and a beer is no coffee. So Bishops Arms and the others mentioned are quite nice for their selection. Here's a list. Also, since Copenhagen is but a 30-40 mins train ride away you'll have a good choice of bars, pubs and such whenever you choose to cross the water (you have not experienced a true summer night's evening until you've had a Danish' Sm°rrebr°d and an ice cold lager, basking in the sunshine in Nyhavn, Copenhagen, regardless of earlier experiences).
Though, Siesta usually have Sm°rrebr°d when you have no time/money/[other] for going to Copenhagen. Hmm. can't vouch for this one, but perhaps you want to stay clear of "home". Viggos in Lund (the university town 15-20 mins away) does have yummy burgers when you need them, though. And since this is Sweden let's talk cheese, if you happen to go for a walk after that burger.
Yes, yes I like coffe. And beer. And cheese. And...stuff. A tad too much.
During summer time there's a beach more or less within Malm÷, though I advise going for a trip during "winter" since it's mostly a damp, eternal-ish autumn with grey skies.
I'm sure this is a) too much, b) far too little info but you know what they say about martinis: one is too few, two are too many, three is not enough.
Oh, welcome to Sweden!
(and remember we do not, contrary to belief, talk like the Swedish chef from the muppet show).
FAKE EDIT: Saw you got a place to live already, congrats!

the general acceptance is pretty high. you will find for example that something like 90% of the population know english to atleast some degree. also we got such a high % of immigrants that something like 20% of swedens population is from somwhere else. i dont think anyone will curse after you for not knowing swedish, its not exactly the best known language in the world --------------------------------------------- Playing minmatar is "like going down a flight of stairs in a office chair firing an Uzi". The biggest faux pas you can do really is to enter someones private residence without taking off your shoes. You do not ever under no circumstances do this unless explicitly told you can.
The elderly 50+ and over, increasingly so amongst those with a scruffy appearance do not speak english, most everyone else does, or at least get by.

depend on what you compare to i guess...i'm not sure exactly WHERE you are from so i dont know what standards you are. but on a scale from 1 to 10 where 1 is some getho scool in USA and 10 is a world class university like say...Harvard or something i would put them on...5-7 depending on where in the country. MUCH less violence than in america. --------------------------------------------- Playing minmatar is "like going down a flight of stairs in a office chair firing an Uzi".
