What games did you play as a youth? What were the stand out titles that defined your gaming past? Where they classics or where they oddball games that your cousin had on a Disc somewhere.
Anything pre-playstation should be acceptable... I don't want some kid posting Final Fantasy X and making me feel old ;p
Anyway... join me on a trip down nostalgia lane.

For me: UFO:Enemy Unknown Doom Civilization Sim City Champions of Kryn Master Of Orion Paratrooper Summer/Winter/California Games I still remember how Summer Games gave me the error report: "You don't have the needed n memory to be able to play this game. How puny!". That made me feel bad. PR wasn't the strongest point in games back then.

1) Street Fighter II (any other answer is wrong)
2) Lucas Arts point-and-click adventures
3) Super Metroid (every year I hope for the return of a *real* 2D Matroid game, only to be sorely disappointed...)
Actually, Super Metroid might be the correct answer to the no 1 spot. What can I say? It's a damn fine gaming experience that puts many modern games to shame.
Honestly I can't disregard those plumbers' arrival, either, whether I like to or not.
I miss my games. Far too many games nowadays are basically FPS-games shoehorned into other genres so that the publisher can place an RPG/adventure/[other] sticker on the retail box. Many games look the same as well, with too much resources going into making them look "real" (hence loosing quite a bit of art direction, imo). Some of them might be an evolution, but most are not.
Then there's EVE I guess.
But first: *hops off to cold storage, rummages around for his old SNES and the Super Metroid cart* I have a brain to pod.

Before that was my BBC-B, games like Wizzy's Mansion, Contraption and Mr. Brolly.

Oh I miss the days of hide and go seek. Apple, peaches, pumpkin pie, whose not ready holler I.
Man, I had the best hiding spot. After hiding there all night long with no one ever being able to find me, I would finally wake up in the morning and go inside.
My favorite pc game was on an old 8086 called StarFlight. You basically created your bridge crew and trained them. Made money by exploring planets - can mine them,e tc. If you charted a habital system and reported it back to your colony - you made mroe money. It had multiple goals.
1 - Find old earth. 2 - Stars were becoming unstable and u needed to find out why. Basically after going through light years of space solving this mystery - u found out there was a crystal planet (these crystals were actually the fuel you used for your ship). Also - the crystals were alive. It was the crystal planet that was causing stars to go nova. After more archeology and searching - you eventually get several artificats to put a bomb on the right spot on the planet and blow it up. 3 - after that was done - u encounter a super race called the uhrleks. I never could get past those guys and solve that one. ___ It deosnt mttaer waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, olny taht the frist and lsat leettr be in the rghit pclae. Too many to list and I see familiar names in the list of other posters, but some of my all time favorites are:
TIE fighter

master of orion
ultima underworld
Dune 2
star control 2
mechwarrior 2
Basicly I played mostly space/mech sims, strategy games, RTS-games and RPGs. Nothing has changed since then.
