I love EVE.
I spend 3-5 hours per night playing it and lots more on weekends. As for many others a part of the game for me is building stuff in factories and researching/copying blueprints.
A major flaw in the factory and research system is the payment of bills. Even "hardcore" (no life) players are forced to be offline for a period of time now and then. Vacations, business trips or whatever. If that trip exceeds 4 days im running a very real risk of losing the very thing that makes up a part of my EVE-experience because bills run on a 5 day cycle. To avoid this I have only one realistic recourse : turn over my account info to someone else.
The EVE-Online EULA says this about passwords : "You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your Password and for any damage, harm, lost or deleted characters, etc. resulting from your disclosure, or allowing the disclosure, of any Password, or from use by any person of your Password. You may not obtain, attempt to obtain, use or attempt to use the password of anyone else. You are responsible for remembering your Account information and Password."
So, telling someone else my password seems to be against the EULA, or at least puts any mistakes or problems with the account on my head. Not a very good solution to my problem. And Im not sure what my bank would say if they found out that I handed out a password that gives someone access to my full VISA details....
I can see two viable solutions to this dilemma:
1. Increase the period of all bills to 30 days, just like Offices have now. The amounts would of course need to be adjusted.
2. Make bill payments possible over the web.
It seems to me that the simplest and fastest way to solve this would be to extend the period on bills. The best solution IMO would be web based bill payments. That way the shorter cycles could be kept and one could still keep the labs and factories when going away for christmas for a week.
A response from CCP on this issue would be very appreciated.

Even better would be if the bills are paid automatically if not cancelled.

As I can see you're in corp. Rent the Stuff for the Corp and have another Corp Member responsible for the wallet while you're gone. That's it, and pretty easy, too.
Making a Web interface for bills payment will probably be denied for the very same reason we don't have a skill change web interface. It is easily exploitable (especially on Lab slots for example, have a script that regularly checks the status and pays and stick it looong term research for the next 10 years..., then stop worrying until someone wants to buy the slot...), it messes directly with game data (as dev I wouldn't want that anyone else beside the Client can mess with game data, only reading it is another thing, tho).

I agree with second post! make it so they automatically come out of your wallet if u dont cancel them, just like a real life direct debit :)

ok though i like your idea it probably wont happen they did it this way so othger people could have the chanvce at a lab slot once a while.. see in this game noone can be there all the time. and when your slots get canceled someone else geta go at them and preety much that is what they intended IMO.

Prevents inactive players from taking up slots that active players could be using. I am sure thats why they decided to have the 5 day bill system.

See, the problem is that I'm NOT an inactive player. I do however have to go offline now and then for holidays and vacation, sometimes for a business trip. Its very weird that one should be punished for doing that.

Heh, this is Eve. You get punished for just about everything. Even get punished for preforming actions with no consequences (shooting stations).
