Hi everyone-
I have a few quick questions for those of you who have more experience than I. Can a group of frigates destroy a BS? Can a group a cruisers take on a BS? and lastly what roles to cruisers and frigates typical take when in large fleet battles?

Yes frigs can pull down a BS. 2-3 Interceptors (or perhaps 4-6 normal frigs) can sometimes manage it those in the frigs have their act together and work as a team. It may take more depending how the Battleship is fitted.
Oddly cruisers have a harder time than frigs vs. battleships. Frigs are hard to hit and can zip in and out of battle avoidung getting killed. Cruisers are too slow to zip in and out and not armored enough to stand up to a battleship for very long. These days about the only cruisers you see seriously fighitng are Blackbird (electronic warfare ships) and Thoraxes (Blaster-Rax). Of course that is broadly speaking and certainly a well coordinated attack against a battleship from anything can kill the battleship. A lot again also depends on how the battleship is fitted when it gets jumped.
Cruisers in fleet battles usually take the role of electronic warfare (Blackbird) or occasioanlly knife fighter (Blaster Rax can dish out impressive damage if it gets to its target in one piece).
Frigates in fleets generally act as tacklers. They swoop in and web (slow down) and scramble (prevent a ship from going to warp) and hold them there while other ships kill the target.
This is all broadly speaking of course but usually this is what you see.

Aside from the above, which is very true, frigates and cruiser have secondary roles.
Cruisers are oftenly fitted to counter frigates. There are some pretty decent setups for that.
Frigates are also extremely usefull as scouts and tactical markers in and just before larger engagements.
For example. the presence of one covert ops frig can make the difference between a battle won and a battle lost even before it starts.

3 frigs ( standard ones ) can easily take down a bs.

Do I have this right:
Frigates are there to tackle BShip's,do some damage and EW. Cruisers are there to take out Frigates to prevent tackling, EW and do some damage. BShips just pound everything into dust.
Now specialized ships...
What roles do Interceptors Assault and Covert Ops ships play in the grand scheme of things?

Definitely not an expert, but I'd guess:
Interceptors have even more speed than normal frigates, and since speed is essential to survival when you're trying to lock down that battleship, they're probably more suited to webifying and warp scrambling than frigates are.
Assault Frigates, maybe anti-frigate defense, since a cruiser CAN have some difficulty hitting interceptors.
Covert Ops, definitely scouts.

I wouldnŠt be too sure about that. Well, if the BS pilot is an absolute noob and has no drones, smartbombs or any missiles fitted, then YES, its actually possible to do damage to him and survive it...but to kill him? Even a slightly tanked setup makes it hard for the frigates to do decent damage over time, and a BS just has better resources than them. (more slots, more cap, large or xlarge shield booster...and dont forget the Heavy Nosferatus, they are crippling death for any frigate, even inties.
When you are talking of standard frigs, i would at least take 6-8 to tackle a Bship...and even then its not sure who will win. Remember, its no longer possible to fire cruises from standard launchers (Kessie hit and run tacktics).
Not sure about the assault ships though, with their extremely high resistances they are tough nuggets to kill...
Patience wins. |

One of the Celestial apoc guys has solo killed BS in his Taranis.
Some of RKK's guys have popped BS in their frigs while in small groups.
m0o are the downright masters at it.
It takes co-ordination, skillz and some luck.
But anyone doubting it can't be done is an easy kill.

For the cost it is easy to lose a BS, fastest way is another BS, but several frigs can do it too. ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

DB and Sutty are right..... 3 frigates can take down a BS not easily but it can be done if you have the right people with you who know what theyre doing.

all you have to hope is that thy arent too well tanked, then its a pain in your ass to bring them down, but after some minutes of light missle spamms everybody dies Wanna fly with me?

3 BS yesterday (armor tanked typhoon, shield boositng apoc, and arma) killed with just frigs, 2 with only 3 frigs (2 dmg taranis' and a capture malediction) all lone ganks mind you though. When fighting BS its semi luck as to what they have on and how well your guys work togetehr theres no OMGWTFPWND setup for frigs, depends on both yours and thier setups, id say play around with it a bit on entropy.
I have taken part in a group (mixed BNC/Norad/FU/JF) of cruisers and frigs that took out a fleet of scorps and ravens. It required ALOT of warping in and out we did outnumber them by 1.5:1 at least id say. in the end we took out all 4 scorps, 1 of the 2 ravens and the 2nd raven manged to get away just barely, i think he logged or something. At first they thought it was just funny, then we dropped the first scorp think they though we got lucky (we probably did) when we dropped the 2nd they were ****ed and by the time the last raven warped out i think they were wonder wtf had just happened. I dont really know how we did that to tell you the truth, lot of ew i geuss, we didnt even have that many blastarax' with us. and we did lose about half our ships, but still it was damn fun and damn funny.

If a BS isn't prepared for combat against frigs (i.e. has either many small drones, heavy drones + webber, smartbombs, nosferatu), it is pretty easy to kill it with a few frigs, if you can do enough damage. If it has some defenses (e.g. small/medium drones, but no webber), it is probably still possible, but should quite a bit harder.
With Cruisers, it depends a lot on the loadout of the BS as well. A group of 2-3 well-equipped cruisers can probably kill any long-range turret BS fairly easily, if they can warp in close enough. But they would have a lot of trouble against Ravens (because missiles can still hit them at close range) or close range ships with a webber (Blasterthrons etc.).

As said above, it is nor problem to take down a BS with frigs, as long as the frig squad are oraganised and all know their part in the process.
If you can get 8 or 9 frigs together, you can take a bs really fast.
We popped an apoc in about 3 minutes just a few days ago.
