Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 10/09/2004 16:23:38 Eve and X2 are different in a lot of ways so I wouldn't make a comparison. Eve is in its very nature entirely different from X2, because you can't control more than one ship at once whereas in X2 you can control a virtually endless amount of ships without having to fly them yourself.
This fact, besides a lot of others, makes an effective comparison of the two games senseless. It's like comparing a blaster to a railgun.
I agree with the part about the story and the characters though. However, these are more or less unimportant in X2 and you don't have to do the story if you don't want to. The game is much more about building your own imperium of ships and stations within the game and keeping that imperium running and profitable.
You also need to keep in mind that the interface of X2 is geared towards the use of a joystick+keyboard and as such does a very good job once you know how to work it right.
Starting off in X2 can be hard, but that has always been the case and personally I like it that way. It's more challenging.

Originally by: fairimear X2 is still a gfx test bed as its so nice looking. But after all the trouble on visuals they screwed the controls. It was lacking a good story as if it was dumped in after. And if it had a multi player we would have seen a new freespace2 but alas no.
I pray for Freespace 3.
I used to love Freespace and then Freespace 2. I think I was the first person to actually add new ships and weapons to the original Freespace (mainly due to the fact that FS model and weapon files were encrypted and it was *****ed by a friend of mine.)
And man did I love FRED (FReespace EDitor)... you could setup any scenario you wanted and then play it. -------------------------------------------
<Stavros> the first motor bike i ever rode <Stavros> was a honda gold wing <Ak-Gara> hah <Stavros> |

Sorry that this is a bit off topic, but some people have been talking about older games... the one that makes me tingle still to even think about is System Shock 2, THE most atmospheric game i've played. As the the magazine review stated "play it alone, with the lights off.. if you're hard enough"

Hmmm after visiting http://www.nexusthegame.com I suddenly realized that the graphics in eve-online might not be the bleeding edge for very long

Edited by: illuminati on 10/09/2004 22:55:00 Wow, Nexus looks really awesome!
Sorry guys though who think EVE is Elite, no way, really not... Thargoids, spacefuel, actual tradegoods trading, real warpdrives and jumpdrives, realtime fast combat requiring IN-GAME skill, Thargoids and finally Thargoids :) EVE is close but not IT by far.
And yeah, both EVE and X2 have fanboys, hehe. Both games are good but don't compare chocolate with vanilla. Both good, both bad, both addictive...

X-Wing was cool, because you could use the mouse to aim at your targets. But when I found out that X-Wing vs. TieFighter had no mouse support what so ever. I didn't even bother downloading it. Even though I still owned my awesome gravis joystick at the time nStuff..
5 R&D Agents, 10months, Zero BPO Offers.. Onboard navigational [Planetary Avoidance] computer.

Originally by: Mr nStuff I would chop off one of my legs if they made another BattleZone game though. Specially since I really wouldn't need legs anymore if they did. Still haven't seen a game quite as awesome as BattleZone and BattleZone II since it's creation.
Hmmmmm... Battlezone. Less then 10K copies sold.
I bought four!

Yeah.. I don't think many people actually owned home computers when Battlezone came out. The World Wide Web hadn't even gone public yet during it's release.. Sure wish they would make another one though.

X2 is just like X1 and excellent game, but it has very cmplicated controls and gameplay, thats why many people dont like or try it. The economy is very easy and fun with many options. But you really cant compare it, online games are always longer fun.Eve's economy is way more realistic and the trading part in EVE is the best I've ever seen. (Note: Not hauling from a to b for a fixed profit, I'm talking about trading as in trading, NOT hauling). The coolest thing about X is the factories though, that you can buy them and anchor in space, then supply them and all is just too cool, not even the Elites had that! |

What i found worst in X2 is that there doesnt seem to be a big established community where to go to and whine in their forums how bad the game sucks.
